    I took a 200 foot roll of 1/2" poly tubing and split it into two bundles slung over the roof peak,pumped water up there with a clear water pump from "HF".........I am getting a 5 degree rise in water temp pumping from and back into my jacuzzi and have been using the system for over 20 years. Replace a pump every 5 years beats hell out of a $200/monthbill for running the jacuzzi heater.

      What was the flow rate on that?
      I’m trying to imagine what 300 feet of 1” black hose might do, but with a faster flow.

    How much better was your more recent solar water heaters with the greenhouse box? What is the difference in steady-state temperature increase for the same flow rate? Not the increase in temperature when it's been sitting for some hours without flow...

    Why not go with a larger diameter hose for a greater volume and potentially higher flow rate if desired and regulate with a valve? Also wondering if perhaps a non coil arrangement allows the sun to reach more of the hose Total surface area for even more heat generation.

    • @jackb2664
      @jackb2664 2 роки тому

      Larger diameter with greater volume generates less heat. Higher flow rate also allows for less time for the water to absorb the heat. The coil works better as the edges are tight, mutually supporting and insulating heat loss.

    • @Valalvax
      @Valalvax 6 років тому +2

      I know you asked months ago and have probably got your answer, but he said it was quarter inch hose (assuming that's inner diameter for example) 100 ft long, total volume is .3 gallons*8.5 = 2.5 pounds. Best guess for the weight of the hose is 4 lbs, so your total weight will be around 6.5 lbs plus whatever you mount it to, but your windshield should handle it no problem

    Hey Desertsun02, Love this Idea, I wonder what the flow rate is in ounces at the 130 degree F temp? I had 1500feet Coil of 1/2" id poly tubing like for Drip Irregation. I hooked up to my swimming Pool, But the Flow rate has to be slow enough to get the heat in and everything needs to be insulated to keep the collected heat at the collected temp, the flow rate/volume of water through 1/4" Poly drip irrigation tubing/ hose to maintain 120 to 130 degrees F would be very slow and a long process over Hours, a small Hot water heater tank maybe a 12 gallon size, could be a good Holding tank as they are insulated pretty well with Rock Wool insulation, so after few hours you may be able to accumulate enough water for a quicky RV style show, that means NO running water, get yourself wet, turn it off suds up then rinse with conservation being the primary goal, it could work in an emergency, keeping in mind it only works on clear sunny days, overcast or cloudy days solar is almost or is Useless, But Clear days Solar is Awesome I have a out Door Solar Kitchen That I cook on Everyday that is Clear or I can at least see my shadow

      Better to use 2half inch pipes it’s all about surface area.
      The exterior area of a half inch pipe v the interior capacity.
      The problem being that a 1/2 in pipe is approx 1.5 around dependent on thickness of walls while a 3/4 in pipe is around 2.5 inches around which means less surface area for capacity and capacity is much larger than twice as much so heat exchange would be less.
      Same as a 5ft bale of hay struggles to feed 20 cows but a 6 foot one has twice as much feed and less waste due to lower surface to area

      Family have heated pools for years this way flow upwards on roof with small enough pump to not boil the water
      I’ve seen irrigation pump pipes melt if not started to cool the pipe in hottest weather

    Hi, i like the design. Very simple as things are ment to be. I think that most heat comes from the acceleration of the water molecules into the enclosing spiral adding more friction and speed in eavry loop. I would recomend making the center more tight before exiting the spiral. Plus you could somehow focus and increase the heat at the center of the artifact.
    Keep the exploration going! i will definetely dare to build one some day soon. Thanks for inspiration.

    • @Paulvideo123
      @Paulvideo123 4 роки тому +2

      No! This absolutely incorrect! The water picks up heat from the sun's radiation on the black pipe. Insulating the board and placing a metal sheet that is painted black under the pipe will increase the thermal area for collection. Additionally, glazing the entire unit will increase the warming effect on the water significantly.
      Where on earth do you get the idea friction supplies the heat! I'm in shock.
