Blood-infusion in the breed with Rhenish-German Coldbloods, which have the desired calm disposition, the conformation, especially are wide-chested, but have the least problems with CPL should be the answer. Too many American Belgians are narrow-chested these days and do not have the necessary calm temperament to be used on the farm.
If a small farmer were to acquire a team of quality Suffolk mares with the goal of adding another team by breeding to a 100% euro Belgian stallion, and possibly producing 50% ABA breeding stock thereafter, do you think that farmer would have a hard time finding a willing stallion owner?
The Suffolk / European Belgian cross is a good one, as seen by Wes Lupher’s feed teams in Wyoming. Difficulty Finding a stallion sometimes depends on your location. The ABA does not maintain a breeders list- the best networking source would be joining the Association- you’ll receive a membership list, a horse list and quarterly newsletters. You can find the form on our website- www.theamericanbrabantassociation.net
Hello and thank you for your question. We wish it were the easy! The European Belgian is the original Belgian, and over the years they've been bred to be taller, heavy feathered and gaited more for the show ring. Even the American Belgian has gone more in that direction. The original European Belgian brings some very very good qualities to the table, including temperament- work ethic, willingness, and more. Preserving these qualities, along with moving 'back' toward what the original "Belgian" was, seems like the best step toward preserving a working horse type for the future. Unfortunately, these horses also come with a health problem that we believe can be eliminated by breeding it out and that means going back to the original type.
Hey Jason, always enjoyed hearing you teach and that included Rural Heritage. Are you going to make the part 2? just asking
Part Two is up and Part 3 is on the way!

Good Luck, if this is you! If you find a pure Euro stallion, especially if they have others, and for sale, in the US please post it?!

If you are so dead set on breeding feathering out of Brabants just buy some short stocky Belgians and be done with it
