Another great Vlog dude ! Very much enjoyed. We are in the final stages of our conversion build. We are out this weekend testing things out. So far we have used an older iPad 4 and a Bluetooth speaker. Both great on battery. Watched a film last night for 2 hours on about 75% brightness and used 25% battery, it was nice to have decent audio with the separate speaker.... which i can highly recommend. It’s a Get Together Mini by Marley, it’s excellent and an environmentally friendly option👍🏻.
Enjoying watching every vlog keep up the good work !!!

    Love the channel.
My 2004 Ducato van came with a really old heavy analogue 14" TV & a separate sat tuner. I've had no success with the terrestrial aerial, but I do use the roof top Sat dish. The old setup was VERY power hungry, so I replaced it with a modern 21" motorhome TV from Aldi for £130, it even fits in the same cupboard. This is a 1080 HD TV with built in Terrestrial & Sat tuners, DVD, HDMI & USB. It uses hardly any power in comparison to the old one. I use it mainly on Sat, as the tuning isn't regional compared to terrestrial, but Sat has problems with trees, rain & wind - the dish can work like a sail and rock the van on windy nights. I've transferred some DVDs to USB and the HDMI means I can plug in my netbook for hotspot Netflix / iplayer / 4od / itv hub . 5 player sessions. The TV can spin for viewing from the lounge to dinette and upper bunk. I also have a 12hour tablet for watching outside.

Nice to see someone who loves their tablet as much as I do. I'm exactly the same as you. I use my tablet for most things and I've got a great 30,000mah power bank which can fully charge from dead in 2.5 hours from the wall. So I always charge it up when I go for a coffee lol I only need to charge it up once a week and I watch movies every night!

For those that have laptops on their vans I find this the best lower power option for watching live terrestrial TV. See links for stubby antennae you mentioned in your video (brilliant little aerial) and best (priciest) HD TV receiver USB dongle. ( other cheaper dongle s are available but often it's the accompaning software that let's them down)

I've got a cheap s/h 19" Logik TV which uses a 240v-12v adaptor to use at home. As it's then 12v without it I wired it directly to my leisure system. I use an August magnetic aerial for normal TV, a Chromecast for Netflix/UA-cam etc which runs off my phone hotspot with unlimited internet. I also plug in a Nintendo classic mini NES for retro gaming using a 12v-5v usb adaptor. The TV has been in my van for a couple of years now and still works fine and seems to be ok with having 12-14v powering it.

We watch Netflix amazon prime freeview tv plus we have a android box and old firestick and yes we do manage to go for long walks as well its like you said have a few options if you get poor reception all tech also transfers at home as well. Ta Dave

Hey Darren. I know this is a year old now so you probably know by now but I also prefer a tablet for entertainment and won’t have a tv in my van. August do a tv aeriel receiver thingy (August 405) that links to an app on your phone or tablet and then gives you the option of live tv on your tablet. It’s quite cheap at approx £30 and does mean that you can watch the bbc news at 6 🤣🤣 for free. The receiver has a battery that lasts a few hours and can be plugged into a power bank if necessary. I literally love it.
Ps. Last scan also brought up some adult channels so I’ll not be letting my son loose in it lol

Darren I agree with the power consumption of a tablet, but I like my 12v tv/dvd/sat combo it takes a bit of power but not as much as you think. My tv was bought within the last six months and probably has better consumption than an older tv you have, I have a sat dish and home made tripod and only takes me a couple of minutes to set up. I buy dvd's from charity shops for next to nothing and enjoy watching box sets in bad weather. Only have three hundred watt's of solar and a good size battery bank and have run my chinese desiel heater at the same time as tv and never drop below 12.6v. Good video Thanks

12v TV with built in DVD retail around £125-£135 for 23inch
Sound quality isn’t fantastic but can play through a Speaker. I use my Bose Soundlink which I already had.
Necvox Magmount aerial is absolutely brilliant and my experience is that if I’m in an area when I can’t pick up any channels I’m not getting any Mobile data either.

You could use a portable pc / laptop monitor like the 15.6” Asus ZenScreen. They do a battery version too. There’s cheaper alternatives like the 16” AOC but the viewing angles and picture quality aren’t as good. Pretty sure you can run these off the larger Anker type power packs.

If it's crap weather or late at night, we'll watch TV on a very lightweight laptop. I've got a thin Asus US305C that needs 45W to charge but reckons it'll run for over 6 hours in power saving mode. I've got a DC voltage converter ready to set up and charge straight from 12V too. If this runs flat my wife has an iPad and netflix, paid-for advert-free ITV hub and 4od.

I use a leadstar tv cost about £115 with a good portable Ariel cost about £40 ( but was go-outdoors with card etc) I get a great signal and with my tiny leisure battery will run forever, it got a built in battery which lasts about four hours in warm weather, a lot less if the van is cold though. I don’t use it much for testing purposes i think it uses way less power than the august tv you mentioned. it’s got a bigger screen also. It’s also got usb input and hdmi ( never used them though). I just use for news in the morning and a film or two at night unless it’s raining, then I use it way more. for youtube I just use my phone. For gaming which I rarely do I use a Nintendo switch. could I have more battery power .. yes, does it bother much .. no lol.

I have a 14" TV 12v 18 Watts and never use it. It's the same type you have there just a different sticker as far as I can remember, an aerial came with it £69.99
Chromebook flip 10 hours streaming movies, at least mine does anyway, heavier and less portable than a tablet. Tablet a little less power hungry than a large Chromebook but smaller screen.
Sometimes I think I may have preferred a tablet over the Chromebook but I do like the keyboard and bigger screen plus I can plug USB devices into it. Apps are more plentiful for an Android device though.
As you say, different strokes for different folks 😂

Don't forget that you can watch digital tv through your aerial by using a dongle on your laptop or tablet.
I prefer to watch live TV on an 18 inch 12/230 volt Freeview TV which cost me about £110. It has a built in battery which lasts about 4 hours and I charge it while on the move. It also has SD, USB and HDMI and can record one channel while watching another.
My tablet is my go to choice for films, internet, etc or watching in bed. That also gets charged on the move.

Hard to find info on satellite dish to tablet, laptop or phone. Some 12v sat boxes have the ports for laptops and phones but can you get it to work. Most of Scotland you can forget wifi and 4g. I don't want a satellite dish on my fairly stealth campervan but in the right location I would like to set up my tripod satellite dish and watch free sat on my laptop or phone. I doubt this is possible. Good vlog, & you are dead right, there isn't that much info out there & what info there is, it's over complicated. I did take a large tv, tripod, dish and sat box to a property in France just so some very difficult members of my family could watch the Summer Olympics. I hasten to add that this is illegal to watch any tv in France without the right documents.😱👍

What I found is always use a 12v NOT a 240v through an inverter. During winter months or very dull spells make sure if you are using lighting make sure they are LED When you have finished viewing make sure you unplug your set never leave it on standby. There are some cheaper 12v TVs than Avtex and they are OK only costing £150 ish however you do get what you pay for

get a 240v led tv that has a power brick. look on back of tv youll most likely see that it runs off 19v, get a 12v to 19v converter, cut the power cord after the brick, connect the fitting to the converter, now you no longer need a power inverter or have any losses along the way. a 50w 43 inch led tv with 19v will consume around 63w... your welcome

I don’t watch tv. I do like box sets though. I’d buy off eBay, nice and cheap and throw away the boxes and keep the DVD’s in those disc holder albums. I’d have a tv with inbuilt dvd. Otherwise, I just watch UA-cam clips of my favourite shows on my tablet or phone.

Tried using my AC tv with my battery in the van & immediately realized how quickly AC burns your battery. Also the metal of the van interferes with indoor HD antennas I think because my reception was 💩 Also the local news streams on the internet 🤠

Live TV and especially BBC is taboo here, used to have Sky...hundreds of channels and nothing worth watching so strictly online content now. Any monitor will do as long as it runs on lower dc voltages and has a selection of inputs. Don't forget there's lots of external speaker options too.
Don't forget you can always swap out the power board in your mains tv for a regulated 12 > x vdc psu. Measure across a shunt to get the current or play it safe and have a high-ish current psu, there's plenty around. Lots of the stuff fitted in vans should have a regulated psu anyway especially cctv etc.

I do like iPads and would love one of the big ones but two reasons stop me, first the price lol and secondly the restrictions, you can't install APK files on apple unfortunately which stops you using some apps, I would love one for the pen and drawing though!! That looks flipping cool!

Have you thought a bit ahead for when the government outlaws the combustion engine or makes owning one so expensive, eventually we’re all going to be forced to go electric
