The Pa Soot (Thais say Pla Gasoop), the silver ones, are excellent eating. When they are big. Those ones are small, so the bones make them difficult to eat. But with a big one, the bones are no problem, and they are one of the most delicious fish in the lake. Better than Pa Do (Pla Chado, the giant snakehead) by a mile. Pa Do are a bit smelly. Best place to catch them is from Fish Kingdom in Laos, in the Nam Ngum Reservoir. Stay there and use the boats. I have fished most of the lakes in Thailand, and they are good, but the beasts are over the border where the jungles are prehistoric and people catching them are a lot fewer in number. Thailand was good when I was a boy, but there are millions of fishermen these days, since modern fishing gear became available. Laos is a nice place, too. People are calm and respectful. More than a few old guys on the border of Laos and Thailand, who knew a time when Thailand was still jungle there, told me when I was a kid that Pa Do grew much bigger than we see these days, and that they would sometimes bite people. They told me tales of giant 20kg+ monsters attacking them when they waded into the lagoons to set their nets. I don't think it is tall tales. Biggest one I have caught was about as big as my leg, but there are bigger ones out there still. They are highly intelligent, and the big ones have been around a long time, so they are next to impossible to catch. Sometimes when I am fishing alone in the most uninhabited places, and it is very quiet, I have seen what I think may be them feeding on waterbirds. It is like someone threw a refrigerator in the water, and I think of those old guy's tales. Makes me get out opf the water! Once, I caught a Pa Soot about 2 kg. When I reached down to remove it from the water, something took it out of my hand. It was massive, like a crocodile, and I felt fear. I have never been bit by a Pa Do, but I have had huge aquatic leeches latch onto me, and once I was licked by a water python that looked like the snake out of the movie Anaconda. That is no joke. The only thing I really fear there, but, is the hornets.Take it from me, you have to point your reel forward and your rod tip backwards when you are charging through the bush because you don't want to unwittingly disturb a nest by letting your rod brush through the trees.
Great video sir! It’s great seeing the snakehead in its proper home. A few snakeheads were released by ignorant people into the waterways of the United States. The fish are very destructive to the local species. There are few or no apex predators that can keep the population under control. Thank you for posting this video!
you are most welcome and glad you enjoyed the video. Yes the Giant Snakehead is from Thailand and one of the most popular freshwater gamefish there. We hope the situation over at your side will be controlled.
