  • This is a crewed mission to the Pluto-Charon system using far-future fusion propulsion technologies and the Kerbalism life-support mod.
This was really fun to create and fly; fusion rockets really make many things possible.
I created/modified configs to suit the purposes of this mission, so this is likely nonreplicable with the default configs.
    Music:
    Olympus - Ross Bugden
    Black Heat - Ross Bugden
    Ascension - Ross Bugden
    KSP version: 1.10.1
    Main mods used:
    RSS/RSSVE/CanaveralHD
Nertea's Far Future Technologies (fusion engine and supporting equipment) and Near Future Technologies mod suite (pretty much everything)
    Cryogenic Engines/Tanks (launch vehicles)
    Real Scale Boosters (moar boosters)
Kerbal Atomics (engines on reusable equipment lander)
Restock (makes parts look much better)
    TUFX
    Waterfall
Tweakscale (for bigger fusion fuel tanks and a couple other minor things)
    Camera Tools (nice camera shots)
Time Control (slowing down time for decent realtime FPS in recording)

Awesome work! I was always wondering, how do you plan spiral-out burns with low TWR ships in KSP?

@@AlphaSpaceKSP not sure how your comment relates to my spiral out question?

he probably tries to get out of earths SOI first then does the burns on a solar orbit
its so efficient + orbiting the sun takes a long time = its better

If you want to do it without modding in trajectory planning tools, you can basically burn prograde until you are far enough away from the planet that your TWR is more than 0.2. At that point you can set up a maneuver node and execute it more or less accurately.

Great work! For pluto mission, We have exalosm full on cryogenic nuclear thermal and yours high tech fusion. Now i wonder someone will do similar mission with middle tech..

Nuclear-electric? Hall/gridded drives with an onboard reactor.

Something like a crewed Pluto mission would likely be well-powered by a Dual Stage 4-Grid ion thruster, due to its insanely high efficiency (for an ion thruster). Power for really any near-future/current mission that far out from Sol would have to be provided by nuclear reactors, which would enable high power consumption engines like the DS4G.

Believe it or not, Pluto actually does have an Atmosphere, albeit a very thin one but, an atmosphere nonetheless. Even so, a Heat-Shield would probably be required for entry into it! The surface Gravity on Pluto is about half that of our Moon, so getting around will be very easy….Excellent graphics and animation design!

Finally an orbital assembly at a descent altitude. Maybe 1500 or 2000 km I think? I was tired of youtubers who assemble their cruiser vehicle 150 km away, their solar panel acting like a good sail that brakes everything properly lol
Btw how did u take only 2 years to reach Pluto, u keep accelerating with the fusion engine (prograde then retrograde) ?

Shouldn’t there be two counter-rotating centrifuges to cancel out the torque?
