  • From Bunagana, North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rachel Bitereye participated in our Think Africa program. When the war began, she was forced to flee to Uganda, where she continued her training in our university preparation program at Kyangwali refugee settlement. A committed and resilient woman, Rachel has been volunteering as a matron at our secondary school. Rachel's vision of supporting vulnerable people, especially deaf individuals, in fitting into current society is truly inspiring.
Rachel's dream is to open a well-equipped school and company that will empower them to succeed. Such an inspiring woman has been awarded a scholarship degree under the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the United States International University - Africa in Kenya to pursue her dream. CIYOTA wishes you all the best strong woman!
