It's amazing. Magnus wins event after event the past few months and business as usual. Loses a game and draws another then BAM people saying he's broken and gonna retire. Granted those events were not always classical formats, but regardless, the short term memory/getting caught in the hype is astounding

    • @user-vz2lc5kw9c

Totally agree. It's amazing how people love to cheer a hero and take equal delight in seeing them fall. Like a pack of hyenas looking for a weakness to drag down a water buffalo. Magnus might be headed towards the downside of his career. Or maybe just having an off event. Or just saving his ammunition for later. In any case, the click bait teasing his "eminent demise in chess" is astounding.

    • @cc3
      @cc3 7 місяців тому

@@user-vz2lc5kw9c I think you're wrong here, he's the most popular chess player in the western world and it's not even close. Fans are definitely disappointed in his performance, it does seem bizarre that the #1 ranked player would choose to come 16th in a tournament where realistically, if he'd opted to use his vast knowledge of opening theory he'd have come top 6 without much need for prep. It seems to me as if he's so afraid of his natural career decline showing that he's masking it with purposefully dubious openings.
It's clear that he's going a similar route to most of the other chess greats where he's realised that to stay at the top he must commit more time to analysis and theory than actually playing the game (which is what he'd rather do). It's just a bit of a slap in the face to anybody routing for him to live up to his potential but of course burnout is clearly at play here too. I don't blame him at all for his decisions, I just don't think his fans have just magically morphed into a mob.

  • @BeatPoet67

It's much more interesting seeing Magnus against lower rated players rather than the top 20 he usually plays. He obviously doesn't prep much for them and is happy to go for any game. But these kids don't give a f and are happy to go all in to try and win. I like their style!

  • @jasper5016

I cannot believe the pressure Magnus needs to handle. With low-rated players, his points don't increase much but if he loses, he loses lots of points. Your analysis is top-notch. Thanks so much.

Its such a bold thing from the champion player to play risky openings or maybe the correct word is setups. His positions out of the openings looks so risky. But he still somehow finds chances to win. It needed some brilliant moves from his opponent to make him scrap for a draw. But giving up the rook was just genius. gives me headace even imaging how much precise calculation he could have done there and to actually play it in the game where, dare I say, his reputation is on the line. Another loss to 2500 GM and ppl will start taking about retirement. But all genuine chess fans know how good carlsen has been over the years + GM is a GM no matter the rating. Indian or not, all GMs are masters and have achieved something significant in their lives.

Carsen couldn't concentrate thinking his opponent could be hiding a stockfish.or a digital watch. This guy gets psycho whenever he gets smashed. How could he got away for so long being allowed to play chess without a straight jacket. A classic schitzo.n

I’m highly sensitive to and critical of clickbait, and I disagree here.
Before watching the video I had the idea that Magnus was severely pressed, with the implication that there would be suspense as to Magnus potentially losing the game. And that’s exactly what happened.
I thought the combination of title and thumbnail really accurately portrayed the video while creating suspense and driving excitement.
For me it was a perfect description of the game, and I felt like the video both lined up with the title and thumbnail entirely, AND did not act to spoil the result of the game in any way.
Moreover, no matter your capability, those two moves are stunners. If I were Magnus, I would still be stunned by such moves. And I expect he was.

@@epicchess2021 The clue is in "clickbaity". Note, he can't fully commit to unambiguous 'clickbait'. He doesn't really believe it. I suspect he almost regrets it now. They may find him hanged in his own shower. Stick with Zak.

@@davidcopson5800 Oh I don't regret it David and i know, not believe in my opinion. Also I'm out in the open doing fine. 😄
And yes the clue is in the word 'clickbaity'.
It's not a clickbait complete but alludes to an upset, ie defeat of Magnus.
For me, 17 yr old IMPRESSES Magnus feels more apt than STUNS.
      Hence I say clickbaity.

This is what happens when Super GM's only play each other over and over. The best of that small incestuous group assumes he's the GOAT but meanwhile all the new GM's who might be even better are stuck at 2500-2600 because they never get to play the 2700's. Until rare open tournaments like this.

Hyperbole of the most disingenuous or ignorant fashion.
Just so you don’t have to scramble for your own dictionary, that’s saying either your deliberately misrepresenting things, or you have a distinct lack of knowledge in the area of Magnus’ strength, the current state of 2500 level play when the players are somewhere around the age of 18( due to COVID), or the overall amazing accuracy of these past two games specifically.
And before you say “after using two big words, it makes no sense that you would assume I don’t know the meaning of two smaller words”, I was using that as a metaphor of your seeming incompetence in ascertaining the strength of Magnus Carlsen as he exists currently, at least insofar as using actual evidence as opposed to your own feelings.
