We do year-round too but our summer rhythm is different than the school year and I subscribe to some fun educational computer games to help the kids stay sharp but it's something they look forward to all year. We have used Dream Box math in the last two summers and my kids love it.
Go through them because a lot of them are not the first book in the series. Great bunch of books. Thanks for showing them. I added them all to our Amazon book lists.
I love the idea of math games rather than math lessons for the summer. We're taking a long summer break this year, for travel, but my little guys just recently learned to write all his letters and numbers...so I am still working through in my mind how to have regular practice so that he doesn't forget that awesome skill over a couple months out of routine.
I’m cutting back for the summer too. Just math and reading then we will fold the other subjects when we start the next year. Summer Learning vs Summer School made perfect sense to me when you said it!
Lessons aren’t always needed!!! Games are awesome for math!!! Reading books is enough for language arts on a break!!! We do reading on the beach!!! I love the idea of doing science experiments and art on a break!!! We are doing swimming lessons with our 4 year old. My big kids hate swimming but can and therefore they are able to do water sports safely!!! We live on the beach so they need to be able to swim!!!
We have similar summer plans. Main focus will continue to be math (facts and games) and reading. I have BYL Prehistoric unit that we may drive into if my daughter is into it.
Tuesdays at the Castle was an awesome read aloud. I read it to my boys a few years ago. They were probably 5 and 8 or something like that. They really liked it, and I did too!
It sounds like you have a lot of wonderful plans for the summer! When my kids were younger we did science intensive summers, because it was always easier for me to do the experiments in the summer. I'm actually thinking that we will try and start Emma's dissections towards the end of the summer so that we can do those outside. Having a bag of dissection specimens sitting in my office is not something that I am enjoying at the moment - wish us luck 🤣 And I totally agree to having the books on hand. It is something that I am passionate about, especially as my kids have gotten older and devour books. It was especially helpful when the library wasn't open over the past couple of years and we had to rely on books that we already owned.
Thank you! I made lots of notes for future books! We're on book 5 of 6 in The Land of Stories series. If you haven't looked at them yet, it might be something that would interest your kids for read alouds. Kind of Harry Potter meets fairy tale characters.
We do RightStart and both my 7 & 5 year olds love the math games. My eldest will even play the games for with my younger one whose doing much easier games. I will say their math game book is sadly really poorly written. They do have a resource for better explaining them but it’s a paid resource.

I will have to look into Dream Box!
Just put all of these books on hold at the library! Thank you for the encouragement to read more to my kids.
Always happy to help encourage more reading :)

I completely understand - it feels like such a balance to keep enough practice to not lose skills but to not make it too much like school!

I just heard about Tuesdays at the Castle. I need to get that for this Summer. 😀

Ahh, I loved the BYL Prehistory unit :)
So funny, I'm getting the Start Right Math Games as well! Sounds like fun days ahead! Love the new books!
Just got it in the mail - now I need to get a plan together :)

So excited to hear that, my daughter really wants to pick it up!
Please put up a video on Artistic Pursuits. Still on the fence, but would really love a flip through and your usual detailed review. Thanks!
Oh my gosh the books I've added to our TBR list, Angie! Thank you! Sounds like your summer will be fantastic. Enjoy it!
Where do you find the summer reading lists/ books from sonlight? I can’t seem to find it on their website but my son would benefit from this for sure!
Hi! Here is a link to the Elementary books: www.sonlight.com/shop/subjects/just-great-books/summer-readers?grade_level=Elementary+School
You shared a few Stuart Gibbs books and he is a favourite author in our house!

I will definitely check that out!

Hi! I’m curious what resource are you referring to?
How about summer chess!?
I love that idea, we do backgammon but my father in law teaches it to our kids!!!
Love this idea!
