Welcome to the Letterman UA-cam Channel, home to all your favorite clips from Late Night and Late Show - as well as conversations with the writers, producers and performers who helped make it all happen. These highlights have been artisanally-produced, carefully-curated, and chosen completely at random by an old computer that used to pick numbers for the New York Lotto back in the 90’s. - Розваги
Saw her perform just two weeks ago. She closed the show with this song and still introduces it as "David Letterman's favorite Christmas song." 81 years old. She knocked it out of the park, naturally.
That's awesome!
WOW!! Good for her still singing. and doing concerts. Sounds like she really puts on a good show.
For some reason I thought she had passed away. So happy to hear she is still killing it.
@@martina5296 I saw her a couple of years ago. The lady knows how to put on a show!
This is my Xmas queen x
My compliments to the editor. To get all those clips to blend together is quite an accomplishment.
Amen!!!!!!
Its really amazing.
Maybe they used one audio track and then tried to synch the video from different years to that?
@@shostakovich99 Maybe, but that still ain't easy.
I miss this. It was as much of a Christmas tradition for me as it was for Dave.
Echoed sentiment.
It wasn’t and isn’t Christmas until Darlene Love sings this song.
Absolutely Right, Merry Christmas KW.
You can tell that Darlene put a lot of Love into this song.
She sounds like she could actually bring down the house.
Brings a lump to my throat every time
Classic Television.
It was a personal Christmas tradition on mine to watch Darlene Love perform this song on Letterman each year. I really miss the show. :(
It just wasn't Christmas until Dave welcomed Darlene to sing this song.
And, boy did she give a 'You're welcome!' performance.
@@dennismclaurin1487 Yes!
Agree!
As a Grinch when it comes to Christmas carols, this was always my one exception. I loved and looked forward to Darlene's annual performance. When we knew Dave was retiring, Darlene's final performance was the first time I truly realized the show was ending, and it felt like Dave did too.
Yup. Jay Thomas telling his Lone Ranger story and Darlene Love singing this song is all the Christmas I care for. UA-cam lets it live every year.
So true, Jeremy.
Merry Christmas, regardless.
It is great to see the progression from no strings and a small chorus to the extravagant productions in later years that Darlene and the song deserved.
@karenbeads And to see the warmth between her and Dave grow over the years. He went from respecting her talent to really caring about her. Those appearances helped to reinvigorate her career.
Never seen Dave hug anybody like that - actually touches me
I miss this so much❤
The ever-passing moment. It was glorious.
She was just on GMA 3 weeks ago.
One of many reasons Dave’s show was so great. Miss it so much.
Period! And AMEN!!
Bringing Darlene back to us all is one of Dave and Paul's greatest TV achievements.
For me, Darlene Love is the real Queen of Christmas.
Darlene Love + gently falling asbestos = Christmas YEAH!
This and Jay Thomas & Dave throwing footballs at a meatball on top of a Christmas tree were my favorite Christmas traditions.
And telling the Lone Ranger story!
I want to give this video a million likes🎉🎉🎉
I really do miss her appearances. Another tradition amongst many.
She's been singing the song on The View since Dave signed off.
I always relished this annual Late Night/Late Show tradition. Thanks Dave, Darlene, musicians & crew for the wonderful memories!
The supercut was incredible.
The true Queen Of Christmas ❤
I was just thinking earlier today they should cut them all together. GREAT work!!!
Wow, they found a tempo and really stuck to it! And Darlene never failed, amazing, so good...
Dave’s Christmas show with Darlene and Jay Thomas was always must see TV.
What's left to say ... but straight to Favorites!
Darlene, Dave, and Paul, please please please come home to all of us who miss you. Merry Christmas!
It’s not Christmas til Darlene sings. I’m not crying, you’re crying.
OMG Dave YOU HIT THIS ONE OUT OF THE PARK . Thanks for not letting us down this year of 2222
How fabulous to know this is still being shown and loved in 2222!!
A time traveller still using old internet😮
Still brings tears to my eyes every season. Darlene Love has amazing range and vocal control. Just a magnificent performer.
The TRUE queen of Christmas
Great memories Dave!
Why, yes, I got a little teary. Thank you for posting!
Boy do I miss the traditional performance of Darlene Love's Christmas hit on David Letterman. Those were the days my friend!
What an amazing accomplishment to seamlessly stitch together 21 years worth of music into such a wonderfully melodic compilation. I can't imagine the hours of work that went into creating this memory machine. Merry Christmas!!!
For a multitude of reasons, 'Late Night With David Letterman' has earned the descriptor- CLASSIC TV. The yearly tradition of featuring this song, and this singer, ladies and gentlemen, is one of those reasons. God Bless Dave & God Bless Darlene!
I love these compilations, because I thought I was a big Letterman fan, but I'm realizing I missed a LOT of stuff over the years.
I remember so many of these. Shes amazing
Even an agnostic like me cannot avoid shedding some tears remembering those beautiful Christmas shows with Jay Thomas, Paul Shaffer, Darlene Love and the Greatest David Letterman!!!
From Argentina 🇦🇷 I wish very Happy Holidays for all the Letterman fans!!! 🎅 🎄🎆
All the late night shows took this week off and I remember Dave would have Darlene love usually on just a few days before Christmas. This mashup was wonderful. So glad for this UA-cam channel. Sending love from Detroit.
😎👍This is just 1 of the reasons why we miss ya Dave!
Paul & the World's Most Dangerous Band replicate the "Wall of Sound" to perfection!
Paul's comment about the 1986 performance to Vanity Fair: " It’s just the four of us and my band, singing and playing. [We’re] singing the background ourselves and playing ourselves, but somehow, when she started to sing, there was the Wall of Sound. "- Paul "Shaffer, David Letterman’s bandleader and sidekick through three decades, could be forgiven for sounding a bit wistful. He was speaking to VF Hollywood in the days leading up to the Thursday night taping of the last performance of the best Christmas tradition on U.S. television. Sometime between midnight and 12:35 A.M. on Friday night/Saturday morning, Darlene Love will perform her 1963 song “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” on Late Show with David Letterman for the last time. She has sung it on the program nearly every year since 1986."
I agree… it’s not Christmas until Darlene sings!!! I thought I had seen them all !!! This was totally amazing. Thank you sooo much!!
Thank you for this! The true Christmas spirit with Darlene Love!
Beautifully done. What a voice! 👏👏👏
Nice work on the editing. I know the key changed a couple times through the years and it blended right in. I've always appreciated the equal parts sincerity and over-the-top ridiculousness these annual performances took on. It's not Christmas until Darlene sings, Jay throws the football at the meatball and we hear the Lone Ranger story.
A classic. My family's favorite Christmas song
Thank you. We miss the show and especially Dave’s traditional Christmas show with Jay and Darlene. Happy Holidays 🎄
I love this so much
It's pretty amazing she hasn't had to change the key as far as I know throughout her years. Just an incredibly powerful singer!
The editor used the sax solo to transition to when she DID change key. Clever
@@zachsmith3 I thought that was very well done, too. But what about the tempo? It sounded to me to be consistent all the way through. Did Paul and the drummer have that accurate a sense of tempo? Or did they use a metronome?
My family & I used to love watching Darlene Love perform “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” on Letterman every year. It was one of our favorite Christmas traditions! Thanks for this! Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!
Boy, could she get you into the Christmas spirit!!
Great collage of Darlene. She is spectacular!!! Finally at 80 + she is getting the recognition she should have got some 60 years ago.
My allergies are terrible after watching this. I wish my dad were still around. This was our little tradition that we had for ourselves. He would have loved to have seen this.
Her Christmas spirit should be good for what ails you.
Dave and Darlene together each Christmas is a holiday tradition that I desperately miss. We can see how much he genuinely loves her!
It ain’t Christmas’til Darlene Love sings on Letterman.
My favorite Christmas song.
This still brings a tear to my eye. One of the MANY things I miss about the Letterman years of late night.
This is going to sound weird, but I wish I had children to indoctrinate into the Letterman "fan club"!
I saw her live last week. She is 82 and still sings this song perfectly. It was made for her and it was made for us to enjoy
I could watch this over and over. Boy do I miss it.
LOVE IT!, thank you! Always loved Darlene's Christmas song on Letterman over the years -- and love this supercut! You made my 2022 Christmas Season whole.
This gave me chills! Thanks to Darlene, Dave, Paul and everyone who put this monumental event together every year.
It’s not Christmas as far as I am concerned until Darlene sings that song.
Dave's genuine love and appreciation of Darlene melts my cynical heart.
Thanks Dave Love Darlene and this song✌✌✌✌✌❤❤❤❤
This song never gets old❤
One of the best Christmas songs ever
Brilliant! The BEST Christmas tradition is Darlene Love singing this song!
May my sweet husband rest in peace he turned me on to this song 23 years ago one of my Favorite Christmas songs now all I have is Our memories the song says it all Baby please come home🌲🎁🌲🎁🌲🎁🌲🎁🌲🎁🌲🎁🌲🎁🌲🎁🌲🎁🌲🌲
GREAT video of a GREAT Christmas tradition ♥️ We miss you Dave! ♥️ Merry Christmas!
That gets the ol' yule log going.
I have goosebumps!!! Hair standing up on end!! That vouce and sheer class!! None of these things called si gets today can hold a candle to this talented woman! God Bless You forever and Always Darlene! Thank you too!
I think the editor, as Dave would say of Darlene every year, "blew the lid off the dump!" What a treasure to have this!
Great editing job! The Christmas show was alway the highlight of the holidays.
❤❤❤❤❤❤ Merry Christmas Dave & Darlene!!! And thank you this wonderful tradition 🎄
It's just not Christmas without this!!
I love this one, it's one of my top favorites. Makes me sing out loud, cheers me up, makes me nostalgic, and then makes me cry! So many emotions all rolled into 1.
The reunited again this year and she sang it!!! :)
Oh, and a very Merry Christmas to you too Darlene. You are the best!
I enjoyed this almost as much as the piano player in the top left at 1:18
perfection
That was a fantastic and entertaining video merging all her appearances singing the song.🎄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄🎄
It was power visual seeing military men and women in the audience and singing back up. Couldn't be a more perfect song for them and others serving far from their families.
Merry Christmas everybody
Im crying...good times. Miss them. Merry Christmas all. 💖
Beautiful! Thank you! And Merry Christmas to Dave, Barbara, Mary and all your families!
The Queen of Christmas
Brings Tears to my eyes . Great times . Shes so beautiful.
Thank you so much for this!! One of my favorite Christmas TV traditions of the past.
Merry Christmas to Darlene & Dave! Mr. Letterman did a great service by bringing us this epic revival. Originally released on the day of JFK's assassination, the song got mothballed and forgotten - til Dave resurrected it and made into this epic, seasonal standard ...
It was on the Phil Spector Christmas Album, a huge perennial bestseller.
@@billvegas8146 from Wikipedia: "Love recorded the track "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" for the 1963 holiday compilation album, A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector. The song was written by Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich, along with Phil Spector, with the intention of being sung by Ronnie Spector of the Ronettes. According to Love, Ronnie Spector was not able to put as much emotion into the song as needed. Instead, Love was brought into the studio to record the song, which became a large success over time and Love's signature tune."
As a 90s kid who always tried to stay up late to watch Dave, this brings back so many memories.
This is masterful.
Well done, editor! WELL DONE!
This edit is an absolute masterpiece. My fav Christmas song ever - Darlene Love, what a legend!!
She absolutely nailed this song year in and year out. What an angelic voice.
I used to watch this with my grandparents every Christmas. Miss them and seeing Darlene on Letterman at every Christmas :(
Found this one 3 years ago typing Christmas trying to find a new song. Certainly gets the point over with everyone involved and through the years. Will always come back each year now to relive it.
I just loved these performances and the joy just bursts through for me every time. Tears just flow…it never fails!! Thanks Dave, Paul, Arlene and ensemble! Merry Christmas!
thumbs up
Thank you so much for posting this. I always looked forward to Darlene Love on the Christmas show (and Jay Thomas and the Lone Ranger story). Thank you for making Christmas so much better. You are missed Dave! Merry Christmas!
Thank you!
An absolute American Treasure. Miss this tradition, this was the way to go into the Christmas Week. This was excellent editing
Thank you Dave brought this song to me all these years ago
