@@howey935 I haven't eaten English mustard for years and doubt my digestive system could cope with it these days !! As a Brit, the idea that you can't drink your tap water in the USA is mind boggling, it just doesn't make any sense. America is supposed to be a first world nation and you can't even drink the water from the tap.
She lied about a lot of things in all her videos, We can drink tap water in the US, as the water gets filtered and I live in the country, I have an artesian well.
Yanks are greedy, they make money out of people by selling water in plastic containers, they make money from peoples ill health, their building regulations and electric system are 100 years behind Europe all just to make money.
@@marydavis5234Exactly...most cities have water purifying systems and the tap water is perfectly fine. However, London puts so much chlorine in their water because when it rains and the rivers back up, the water in your household pipes can become contaminated... I just spent a year in London (Camden) and my hair was falling out and felt nasty due to all of the chlorine. As for the banking system - I'm sorry, but I do not give out my banking account number to anyone, it's just a fraud waiting to happen. Also, join a Credit Union if you are eligible (most have a community option). Much lower fees if any at all, better interest rates on loans, etc. This girl is not worth listening to.
Depends where in England, where I’m at our tap water comes straight from the Buxton springs, it’s as good as you can get without getting it fresh from the source without the added fluoride that in all tap water in the UK, however where my Nan lives near London you can’t drink the tap water at all without filtering it first.
Now it all makes sense when I've been questioned by US people on Social Media when they get disgusted about British people drinking tap water and I point out it's actually held to a legally higher standard than bottled water in the UK
Same here in N.Ireland. When I go camping in the Mourne Mountains, I fill a couple of bottles with the water that's coming off the Mountain to take home with me for the fridge. It's proper tasty.
French fries and chips aren't the same thing, yes, they look similar and both made from potatoes but they're not the same, in the UK when you order fish & chips, that's what you get, you would never be served fries instead of chips, unless you specifically asked for fries, a chip butty is chips in a bun, not fries in a bun, if you order any meal that includes chips, that's what you get, CHIPS. They're not interchangeable, fries are fries, and chips are chips. Rant over, 😊
Ah here, GG. Don't be dissin' the christmas pudding. I accept that these days people will pig out so much there's no room for pudding. But have folk never tried the next morning left over option ? Pudding lightly butter fried in slices, kinda like a heat through, with pourable custard. The business.
@@seanmcmichael2551. Delicious! My mother also used to make suet puddings like treacle pud and spotted "richard". I would say a chip butty is chips between two slices of buttered bread. Chips in a bun I would call a chip bap or barm or batch but yea 100% agree you can't have fries in ya chip butty it's just not the same
I used to live near Bradford and the beautiful soft water came from the moors. I still miss it after over 50 years of living on the Hampshire chalk with really hard water that furs up your pipes and your kettle, and needs twice the amount of detergent.
@@Mark_Bickerton I'm Welsh and used to drinking tap water, on my first visit to London I nearly puked drinking the tap water, bottles for me after that.
I am mind blown by the water in the US. We grew up as kids in Australia drinking out of garden hoses when we got hot, and our mum didn’t let us have soft drink, we always had water from the tap. The water here is beautiful!! It’s bizarre to me that the water quality is so bad in the US, yet Australia, with its droughts, still has far better water.
Yeah in Scotland tap water is called by most folk 'council juice' haha. And it's amazing quality, like mineral water. Bizarre to me having to buy bottled water.
She's right - Tebay service area is fantastic! If you visit the UK, there's another A-rated service area, and that's Gloucester services on the M5 motorway. It's owned by the same people that run Tebay. They work with food suppliers local to the area around the service station and the food at either is delicious. Their farmshops, attached to the eating areas sell food, homeware, clothing, toys, toiletries and other small gifts. I could spend all day in either!
Lloyds/TSB tried it with me and my Mrs years ago. "Why not open this account with us? They said. "It only COSTS X amount of pounds per month and, you can get air miles." "So you want me to open a savings account, that you then charge me for out of those savings and you'll give me air miles?" "Yes". "I don't even have a passport so why would I want air miles?" It's hard to believe some people actually fell for this scam!
@@baylessnow I wouldn't care so much if they offered a rate of interest comparable with inflation. Th charges exceed the interest they offer by a mile. There's no way banks should be able to charge, they prob earn a fortune from my balance, Its like paying to go inside a shop but hey that happens too (- Costco)
There seems to be this weird Banker mentality that anything that offers a positive interest rate you should have to pay for (I guess to offset the fact that they're offering you an interest rate on your savings). The mental gymnastics it must take for a Banker to understand that if you charge people to have a measly few percent interest rate, no one's going to want your stupid savings account.
I’m from the south coast Iv got to run the tap for a sec so it’s not chalky I used to think it was a huge inconvenience and we were totally bad but wow guess things can always be worse way worse lol considering myself lucky
It's not perfect, there's still some older properties with lead piping, and some places have water which tastes almost 'processed ', maybe residual chlorine. We also have issues with a victorian sewage system which overflows into the sea, there has been a lot of pressure on water companies to do better recently. We have the EU to thank for our water quality though, it was those guys that put pressure on the uk to upgrade lead pipes and improve water treatment.
Uk banned lead pipes for water supply in 1970 and introduced schemes to replace what properties had them the same year nothing to do with the eu @@chrissiejenkins9124

@@GM-tw4el True, I’m a Scot hiding in the midst of the”Auld Enemy” in East Midlands, near Sherwood Forrest - the water is harder here. I was brought up in Africa and our farm used a well for water. The limestone acts as a natural filter and cleans up the water but it’s very hard water and it has a taste that you eventually get used to drinking it. It ruins tea taste so coffee was always preferred.
Started ro be fixed and shit after a cholera outbreak in 1851. By 1856 laws were passed to clean ot up and supply homes directly rather than a street tap/well etc
Unfortunately with the change in legislation now allowing pedestrians right of way over 2 tonne metal speeding objects won't be long till we get jaywalking laws as people now glued to phones don't have common sense
The reason we in the UK have had separate hot & cold taps in our homes & bathrooms, to ensure that the cold water remains pure & drinkable, which it must be by law, & not contaminated by the bacteria that can grow & thrive in the hot water pipes. Water supply companies have to ensure the water is good to drink, though the taste does still change according to the land type it comes from. For a good butty your chips, thick ones not thin fries, must be hot & put straight into a sandwich with butter, so the butter melts around the chips, it's yummy. A Butty has to have butter, that's in the name, in fact a sandwich has to have butter before anything else. Mayo won't do it, you don't want mayo with everything, but butter does go well with almost anything. McDonalds being better in the UK because servers & cleaners get paid a real wage, not dependent on tips, so things are done better, & there are hygiene rules that have to be followed. I pay a £15 a month fee on my bank account every month but for that I get travel insurance and also AA ( Automobile Association) car breakdown cover for whatever car I am in. I could be my own car or a car belonging to someone else that I’m a passenger in. I recently had to use this as I had a puncture and couldn’t get the wheelnuts off. This lovely guy was with me within 20 mins and had the tyre changed. No charge at roadside as I had a spare. As a relatively elderly woman - I say relatively as in my head I’m still 20 even though I’m 66 - who drives quite a bit it’s well worth the fee on my bank account as it actually cheaper than buying cover direct from the AA
I would agree, except, I have never liked butter, even from childhood (& am 71 now!) so I have Flora ProActiv sunflower spread in any sandwiches I have at (or from home).
Yes proper butter on a chip butty is absolutely standard a must, but sadly Americans don’t understand why it’s so good because most of their butter is like our flora margarine in flavour unless they buy Kerry gold. That’s why they put mayo on all their sandwiches because their buttermilk content in their butter is low and their cows don’t graze on fresh grass in fields roaming around like ours do that gives it the yellow colour and flavour
After owning a property in Florida for years I found the banking system in the USA was from the 18th century, they are so behind modern banking systems it is unbelievable. I mean a simple thing, cheques or checks in the USA still used regularly. We haven’t had cheques in the UK for an extremely long time, stores/ shops in the UK will not accept a cheque, banks won’t accept a cheque. Payment of bills are paid by Direct Debit or Simple bank transfer instantly, no matter which bank all that is required is the details of company or persons bank account. In Florida I was finding paying some monthly bills was crazy, even though I had a set payment structure with let’s say a utility company I had to send a request to the bank for that monthly payment to be done, they would then pay that monthly bill by CHEQUE!!!! That just blew my mind how antiquated their systems were, our banking system in the UK must look like something from Star Trek to them.
Also paying regular employees by cheque! The last time I got paid by cheque was around ten years ago when Payroll had mucked up and left me off the run. Getting a cheque, having to take it to a bank to pay in, waiting for it to clear - when the rest of the world finds their wages deposited automatically in their bank account?! I couldn't believe it when I heard a US lawyer talking about bring paid by his firm by cheque.
Not true I still pay for things by cheque and banks have to accept them. I just had a tax rebate and guess what they sent me a cheque the DWP don't deal with bacs payments...
Except uk government agencies, eg dvla? Some more letters maybe? My son recently changed his car and the dealers forgot to send in the paperwork, so he ended up having to do it himself, they wouldn't take bank transfer or anything else, wanted a bloody cheque. He's never even had a chequebook, had to contact his bank to order one, that got lost in the post, had to order another then send it in, damn process took forever
I recently went to Orlando: Slow McDonald's (and expensive) Plug sockets are rubbish Water smells funny Traffic moves slower (despite bigger roads and less traffic density) Everything is so ridiculously expensive (apart from fuel. Half the price!) .....still good fun though 👍
the fuel is cheap because it is low octane rubbish and is in part the reason Yank cars have stupid big engines that produce very little power due to the low grade fuel.
The US introduced a 55mph speed limit during the fuel crises of the 1970s and still maintains it. When you are driving on an interstate/motorway, the speed limits can change as you cross a state line. And naturally the traffic cops loiter on the boundary and fine anyone who doesn't know the limit has arbitrarily changed. Easy pickings!
I seem to remember seeing that 4 out of 5 McDonald's in the UK are franchises, so these people are going to go out of their way to make sure you enjoy the visit, as their livelihoods depend on it.
Not all. 30% of McDs in the UK are company owned cos they make more money that way. It's the same at KFC too, though I think Subway is 100% franchises@@TC-qd1zw
Not all McDonald’s are franchised in the UK many are owned by McDonald’s. Also they hold to a very strict hygiene program where franchises have to totally gutter their Restuarant’s every so many years to keep them standards.
Tebay Services in Westmoreland is a magical place. The farm shop on the northbound side is to die for and fit for royalty; about 4/5 years ago I was looking at the venison selection and a woman stood next to me looking at the selection, as I turned to walk away I noticed that she was the Princess Royal! I have met her twice before at charity functions and briefly spoken to her once, but this was not an opportunity to speak other than apologise for perhaps getting in her way. She was alone other than her "copper" close by keeping a keen eye on me.i nodded to him and walked away. My wife shares a birthday with her, so when I caught up with my wife she assumed Princess Anne was on her way to Balmoral for her birthday celebration. Yes, Tebay, the only service station so well appointed that royalty would stop and shop there to get a personal gift for her parents on her way to visit!
Cause their companys don’t care about their people only their money cause it would cost them a lot to get a system that cleans the water to make it safe to drink
The first time I visited the US, I made the mistake of drinking tap water on my first day. I spent the next two days sitting on the toiIet. I learned my lesson for every trip afterwards.....if it comes out of an American tap, don't drink it.
Worse is when USAmericans go online and seriously ask if the tap water is safe to drink in Europe - Spain is often picked out for some reason - because they've been told it isn't, seems someone is saying tap water in Europe is undrinkable and you must take litres of bottled water with you everywhere, only use bottled water to brush your teeth and other similar nuggets of misinformation.

The ChipButty (aka fries USA) needs to have lots of butter on the bread, because when you put the hot Chips in and fold the bread over, the heat melts the butter and the chips plus butter plus bread is brilliant.😎🤠🤠🤠
It definitely is not. In my area the water smells strong of chlorine when you first run the tap. It's also hard water area, yet where my mom lives the water from the tap is delicious, really good. But where I live no no no. I feel like they are trying to poison us.

All drinking water in the UK MUST be follows the same rules In Newcastle as in London must comply with the same rules. In the US there is no standard for different States. Bottled water states filtered through volcanic rock to come out in a spring after thousands of years of filtering. Then it say use by a date. WHY?
You are obviously too young to remember Thanksgiving being the focal point of the annual Harvest Festival, an annual religious celebration. It was widely practised when I was a kid in the 50s and 60s and is still observed here in the UK among practising Christians. It's also obvious that Americans are unaware that Thanksgiving as an annual event at harvest time is NOT unique to the US and existed elsewhere, in the UK and Europe, as the climactic service of the Harvest Festival centuries before the US even existed. Of course, these days the vast majority of Britons are secular and are generally unaware of such historical religious events and that they were once widely celebrated in the UK. One of its features was the collection and blessing of food by congregations which was then distributed to the less fortunate in their community.

@@lulusbackintown1478 Ditto. I make various veg based baked goods - beetroot brownies, courgette scones etc - but none of them belong to a roast dinner. @@Loulizabeth Carrot cake and similar dishes date to a time when sugar was scarce and vegetables were plentiful, carrots are naturally sweet and were added to sweeten the cake mix thus saving on the sugar [war time rationing only ended in the 1950s, look up many of the recipes] but that DOESN'T apply to mash potatoes with added sugar and then marshmallows on top for that super extra dose of sugar. Nothing to do with rationing or needing to replace sugar in recipes, just an addiction to sugar in everything and it's disgusting [tried it one year, a friend made ''traditional'' thanksgiving foods as it fell on our monthly meet-up one year, she only made small portions as she knew most people would try it then leave it [she's diabetic and can't eat sugar anyway]. I'm Scottish and I love Tebay Services too. It's a man-made built lake and is so picturesque. I transferred money to my workmates bank account the other night in 5 minutes flat. I don't know anyone here who would eat pizza and chips. The only place that does that in Scotland is the local chippy which does deep fried pizza and chips. Pizza crunch it's called. I have never had it. Apart from that pizza and chips is served primarily in a kiddies menu. Pizza, fish fingers, chicken nuggets and chips.
I am Scottish and I eat pizza and chips. Just stick the pizza and chips in the oven and that is an easy meal. I have been to many peoples homes where they have also done this. You don't do it when ordering a pizza from dominos or pizza hut, but certainly from a chippy.
I'm in the East of England in a district called Breckland. The tap water here is full of the sediment that fills your kettle with grit. Yes I have to replace my shower every 2 to 3 years. But simple solution is have a water filter. I drink tap water that I've filtered. My water boiler has its own filter. (it boils one cup at a time!). I just change them and tap water is fine.
I can't believe that you don't have drinkable tap water in America, we have lovely water in Manchester that comes from the lake District, nice and cold
I think UK motorway service station standards have improved, but not all places are nearly as good as the Tebay Services she mentioned! However, in my experience they’re generally pretty clean ..
I plan my stops at Tebay Westmoreland on either side of the motorway whenever I go south and coming home! Not only is the food served fantastic but the food shop is amazing. I think they also own the services at Gloucester.

Have you ever been to a chippy? This is a pretty common meal in a chippy. Also if you are cooking pizza at home, stick chips in the oven along with it and that is a simple meal. I have been having this since I was young and I know many other people who also do that. Perhaps buying pizza and chips at a restaurant is not something people do, especially at an Italian restaurant.
The thing about what would be a Thanksgiving dinner in the US, is just Sunday at your parents here in the UK. A big meal of great & varied food, family tending to get together, stuff like that. Because it happens so often here in the UK to us it's just Sunday or that day of that month
Can only imagined what Americans would think of UK’s Christmas & Boxing Day meals. 1st is basically a supersized Sunday Roast and the 2nd is round 2 Buffet style.
The security in the UK is efficient because we get all our stuff ready before we get in line. We get rid of our bottles of water, we remove belts, we have our liquids ready in separate bags that we keep handy. The only thing we have to slow down for is removing shoes and taking laptops out of bags. BUT the major difference I’ve noticed compared to US airports I’ve been to is that, in America, they line people up one at a time at the belt where you put your bags and stuff to be X-rayed and there’s like three belts, max. You have to stand there and wait while the person in front of you slowly takes off all their stuff and puts everything on the belt. In the UK, we all stand next to each other at the belt (about five or six abreast) and all put our stuff on at the same time before moving through the body scanner in order of whoever gets there first. Combined with the fact that we have like twenty X-ray belts, it makes it so much faster.
We (🇬🇧) do sometimes say fries but we tend to reserve it for those skinny little things from fast food places. Proper chips are chunky, and are mostly from fish & chip shops, or homemade. Often, restaurants will also serve proper chunky chips.
And home made tattie chips are just the best. I never make them because I'm too lazy and don't own a chip pan but the generation above me always made them 😅
15:32 I saw the best way to deal with this before the pandemic. I was in Heathrow and could hear an American woman on her phone on hands free a good distance down the terminal which in itself is impressive given how busy and loud Terminal 5 is. I'm guessing this must have been going on a while as while I was heading for my gate I saw an old woman maybe in her late 70's/early 80's politely interrupt the young woman and ask if the person on the other end of the call could speak up as everyone around couldn't follow the conversation properly, She looked around saw lots of people looking at her then suddenly put the phone to her ear and walked off talking at a more reasonable level looking very embarrassed.
A lot of McDonalds here have table service. you sit down, go on the app, put your order & table number through & your food comes to you. Oh, and it's automatically paid for.
A lot of UK water is fresh reservoir sourced and derived from rain as well as being filtered and chlorinated. As good as you can get. In the London area, water is either heavily recycled or raised from chalk aquifers and filtered. If you are used to the former water, London water seems poor. Having been raised from aquifers the water around also appears cloudy until the gas trapped in it has been lost. A lot of American water is ground water based and pollution of this is widespread.
Not been to TEBAY but can recommend M5 services at Gloucester North of Bristol very environmentally friendly have roofs made of Turf and Soil and solar powered lights and good food
I pay £8 per month in bank fees but for that fee as part of my account I automatically travel insurance, mobile phone insurance and I get sent a card that can be used to get discounts in certain restaurants, shops and cinemas. The money transfer that’s done in the UK is actually just a feature of the app for your bank account, which you can actually use to pay cheques into your account too. There is actually a pizza called a London Pizza, which has chips (fries) as one of the toppings. The tap water varies throughout the UK, it all perfectly safe but some of it is like the best of chilled bottled spring water and some of it isn’t as cold as you’d like coming out of the tap and might be a little harder (as in there is a higher content of calcifying minerals) but none of it’s really bad…and certainly not to the level of the US. I remember when I visited over thirty years ago, just using the tap water to brush my teeth in the US both tasted wrong (as it was too chemically) and actually made me feel unwell. I’m not sure if we have any actual Italian food chains in the UK, I’m pretty sure that every Italian restaurant I’ve been to in the UK has been family owned and run by people of Italian descent, if not actual Italians. Oh and I’ve seen pictures/footage of Olive Garden breadsticks and the breadsticks you get here in the UK (and I think much if not most of Europe) are nothing like that. Ours tend to be about 8-10 inches long, no more than an inch wide and crunchy like a long cylindrical cracker and sometimes covered in the likes of sesame or poppy seeds. What Olive Garden serve, seem to me as more on par with a long finger bread roll or more slender sub roll, that’s been coated in melted garlic and herb butter and maybe Parmesan.
My US airport security is limited to two trips to JFK New York, but by god were they slow. It’s like they weren’t expecting customers that day. I was scanned and it was determined I had something on my person before an argument and a lot of protestation led them to declare my denim jeans had a thick waistband, and that was my fault, not their antiquated machinery.
My friend has damaged hands and doesn't have fingertips so no fingerprints. She never has any problem at airports except for JKF whose attitude seemed to be we're not letting you in until you grow finger tips. Took her 4 hours to convince them to let her in.
I went into a McD in NYC maybe in 2011. I don’t recall anything of significance, only the USA milkshake was MASSIVE and had whipped cream and cherry. I took it back saying I didn’t ask for a sundae! Was really surprised that it was a milkshake. 😂 I could only drink about 1/10 of it. Was so much. But that’s all I recall. I don’t remember thinking anything else about their McDonald’s.
My dad was in the army, we often lived overseas and the first thing we did when getting back to Scotland was have a drink of water straight from the tap, that was coming home.
A point missed by many people in these comments, is that in the UK, the first water off the mains goes to the kitchen sink and the mixer taps there, legally have to have, separate hot and cold feeds right to the tip so there is no cross contamination of the mains cold (drinking) water and the heated gravity fed hot water. Actually many systems are closed with combi boilers providing the hot water at mains pressure too. Other faucets in the house do not have to have separate feeds to the tips as they are not officially drinking water and are fed by gravity from a tank in the roof (if not mains pressure fed as becoming more common nowdays). Note that a very high percentage of housing is well over 100 years old and will only, sometimes, have had plumbing and heating updates when changing hands. How could a Brit make tea without first "drawing a fresh kettle of water"? Years ago, weak beer was drunk because the water was undrinkable.
Nice to see someone who has Knowledge about kitchen mixer taps unlike other comments posted on here who seem to think that they still actually mix the water. Yep weak beer was so much safer to drink than water
It's funny you say having a chip butty sounds strange. By the way chips are not like the skinny things you get in McDonald's, they are at least 1cm thick. I find it strange American's put breakfast cereal think cornflakes on top of casseroles.
UK cheque account that charges a UK banker normally charges for a premium account which potentially include insurance coverage for your mobile phone theft or accidental damage. It might be additional charges but includes motor vehicle breakdown insurance coverage. So in many cases the premium accounts normally include some additional services attached to the account.
Tebay services is amazing, great place to shop. In the summer they have an overflow carpark almost 1km away because soooooo many people want to go there. And here where I live in Scotland the tap water is crystal clear, tastes fresh & makes great ice.
I visited the US in the mid 80s, I took a greyhound from Memphis to Los Angeles, when we crossed the border into California the bus was stopped by some agency, the guy sitting next to me was clearly a Mexican and was swiftly removed from the bus no idea why, I'm British but looked a bit Latino in those days and they demanded to see my passport, he seemed a bit disappointed when he saw my nationality then brightened up and told me that according to the date on my passport I was a overstayer, I had to point out that if he read the thing properly he would see that the date was actually the date I'd entered, he just grunted and thrust the document back at me and walked of, I try to imagine a coach getting stopped entering Scotland at the English boarder and officials start throwing their wieght around, they'd be kicked off the bus in very short order,
You need thick chips or steak fries for a chip butty, bread cake and lots of butter yummy......and you can add virtually anything with the chips like fried egg or bacon...or is that just me....😅
Airport security? Yes, my trips to US are always marred by hours waiting in a security line. My last visit to Seatac I waited over 2 hours just for someone to xray my laptop! I guess they have to be thorough but gees, buy some more machines ffs.
Tebay and Gloucester services are kind of the odd ones out being basically a farm store. But your typical UK motorway services is basically a mall cafeteria area.. Seats in the middle, huge toilet area on the end that is kept super clean (mind your feet as they are trying to mop while you are washing your hands) Then around the edge you will find the standard fast food places, mcDs KFC, subway etc plus the ubiquitous WHSmith store (newsagent, book store, snacks and drinks, road atlas etc etc)
Chip butty 🥪 😋 I like mine with salt, vinegar & either ketchup or mayonnaise 😊 Has to be proper chips though - not French fries…homemade chips even better
I cannot give you a "like" due to you including mayonnaise... Yuk. Never. Ever. Tomato sauce, or HP, or salt'n'vinegar. (Or Salad Cream - but not on chips!)
the main reason American tap water tastes bad is because you have mixer taps. if you have run hot water through the tap at any point, you have contaminated the mixer barrel and the spout. that is why we have single taps in the UK, as the cold tap only is in contact with fresh mains drinking water.
@@optimist3580 you don't have to take my word for it, you can ask @maxwhite8470 who is also a plumber. ask him what the inside of a mixer tap looks like.
@@maxwhite8470 so you didn't learn at college about mixed water being unsafe to drink? you have never dealt with the local water board at any time in your career? I very much doubt your credentials, if you don't know one of the basic laws.

I have not had a bank account (nor a building society account) since around 1992...(as the one I had was emptied by my then husband, and after the divorce, I couldn't afford to pay anything into it, so closed it).
FYI even in the UK, fries and chips are kinda different. Cbips are supposed to be chunky.... Nicely Crisp on the outside fluffy on the inside. Fries... Similar but wayyy skinnier
I was born and bred in the UK and have only ever left the country on holidays. She is right about the tap water to an extent. However, most people in the UK will only ever drink tap water if it comes from the Kitchen cold tap because that is where the "drinking" water comes into the home. Bathroom or lavatory sink water comes from a different tank and people in the UK do not trust that.
They don't follow this rule if staying in a hotel, using water from their bathroom tap to fill a kettle. But then - the water will be boiled to make tea or coffee - so I guess that's different.
In a UK hotel room you get cold water directly from the mains. Hotels are built differently to peoples homes. Don't drink it if it says "non potable", which is generally what you see in public toilets and is generally water stored in a tank. Imagine if hotel water wasn't from the mains, you could get all sorts of illnesses and people would be using these hotels on a regular basis because they had no warnings to not drink the water.
Most cold taps - including in the bathroom - come from the mains water supply. I was told years ago that the cold tap in the bathroom had to be potable water, it's easy to tell because if the water is turned off at the mains and water still comes from the cold tap then it is an old house with old plumbing and the water is NOT safe to drink from the cold tap. But most houses - those not using a geyser type boiler - now only use the cold tank in the attic to feed the emersion tank/hot tap and the cold comes direct from the mains [lots of builders in my family in the past, all the houses they built had potable water in the upstairs bathrooms as far back as the 1970s, the roof tank fed the hot water tank which is why you NEVER drink from that tap.
We have drinking water from all our cold taps. It's an old house and used to have a cold water tank. Some years ago we changed it so that all our cold taps come off the mains and I think many houses are like that now, especially new builds
With regards to the "Thanksgiving dinner" being a special thing. Perhaps the traditional "Sunday Roast" we have in the UK may be a factor in reducing the special impact of the Thanksgiving as much of the substance of the meal is a regular thing and the exceptions to that are to a British palette are kind of odd.

Yeah in Scotland tap water is called by most folk 'council juice' haha. And it's amazing quality, like mineral water. Bizarre to me having to buy bottled water.
The two taps started because the hot water came from a tank in the loft or airing cupboard.
Also hot tapes collect more metals and contaminants as the pipes heat up so you don’t want to be drinking that.
She's right - Tebay service area is fantastic! If you visit the UK, there's another A-rated service area, and that's Gloucester services on the M5 motorway. Tap water has been safe to drink for over a 100 years in the UK.
Started ro be fixed and shit after a cholera outbreak in 1851. By 1856 laws were passed to clean ot up and supply homes directly rather than a street tap/well etc
What about Crossing the road. In the UK, we do not need permission. There is no jaywalking.
Flights from London are mostly international, with higher risks, while most US flights are internal, between states, with less need for security. Your Thanksgiving food is our normal every Sunday, & nowhere near our Christmas celebrations & special foods. Caseroles are not celebration food, their just boring. You have to have meat, beef or turkey etc. But we don't keep all our best food for only one day of the year. You know that Thanksgiving was a celebration the pilgrims picked up in Holland in the 10 years they were there before they went to America. It did not start in the USA.
The reason some homes in the UK have separate taps is because they are probably old homes, most modern homes have combi boilers and mixer taps

They still have cheques here in France. No cash back though which annoying.

Slow McDonald's (and expensive)
Plug sockets are rubbish
Water smells funny
Traffic moves slower (despite bigger roads and less traffic density)
Everything is so ridiculously expensive (apart from fuel. Half the price!)
.....still good fun though 👍
the fuel is cheap because it is low octane rubbish and is in part the reason Yank cars have stupid big engines that produce very little power due to the low grade fuel.
Easy pickings!
in Scotland there is free drinking water available on the streets, just bring a bottle and fill it up.

I seem to remember seeing that 4 out of 5 McDonald's in the UK are franchises, so these people are going to go out of their way to make sure you enjoy the visit, as their livelihoods depend on it.

UK tap water is safer than bottled water. Seriously!
And affectionatly known as council pop.
It definitely is not. In my area the water smells strong of chlorine when you first run the tap. It's also hard water area, yet where my mom lives the water from the tap is delicious, really good. But where I live no no no. I feel like they are trying to poison us.
@@andreemichaels6476 There are standard they have to meet by law. Soft water areas taste nice but are not as healthy as hard water areas. Soft water is better for washing as it doesn't scum. Extremely pure water can put you in hospital with diarrhea and dehydration, an evolutionary by product.

American thanks giving we call sunday.
@@crackpot148 similar but not exactly correct though it is comparable. Harvest festival is celebrating the bounty of summer and give to the poor and this year is 1st of October. The Thanksgiving food I really do not understand is the sweet potato topped with marshmallow served as a savoury side with the meat and veg! Why?
I'm just going to say Carrot cake. When I first heard of that idea I was scratching my head too. Then I tried it and I was instantly convinced. Now there are multiple vegetable related baked foods that are incredible, and no I'm not a vegetarian, or vegan. I like my meat and 2 veg meals too.
@Loulizabeth I love carrot cake but I'm not going to put it on a plate with a roast dinner
@@lulusbackintown1478 Ditto. I make various veg based baked goods - beetroot brownies, courgette scones etc - but none of them belong to a roast dinner. I guess it's because Americans have a penchant for really sweet food that they like the anomaly of sweet potatoes and marshmallow with the turkey roast!
Not even the kids would eat it as they said it was disgusting.

I remember seeing videos about ingredients from fast food chains comparing the US with the UK. While not exactly healthy, it's much better than the US as its not choked full of chemicals. Have you ever been to a chippy? This is a pretty common meal in a chippy. Also if you are cooking pizza at home, stick chips in the oven along with it and that is a simple meal. I have been having this since I was young and I know many other people who also do that.

Gotta love British politeness.

You realise that as an adult you can eat thanksgiving food anytime you want to make it? You dont have to wait for one day a year lol

Sitting here in the UK, sipping my glass of ice cold tap water. Tastes really good.
