    Great demo. Matt.
Best guitar was the bourgeois 000-45.
Afraid to see how much it cost.....
Some beautiful tones and harmonics coming from the mcpherson.

cOuld you explain a bit about the back bracing on the very fancy Bourgeois guitar please. Lattice? Why? I don't usually like bling, but that is art! Thanks for these live shows which one day I will catch truly live

What was the tuning on that amazing McPherson?

The Brazilian Rosewlod on that 000-45 is almost unbelievable. Filthy it is indeed, wow.

Please. Do you know what string solicitation is and what it does?

Oh wait is this McPherson ☘️? I hope so because as a Davidson I could never buy a Macpherson….there’s a blood feud going on.

Who draws that wire? what Co. Do you know?

That McPherson guitar echoes like a cavern.

The reason I'm curious about wire is that All the low E string seems too hard a wire, and this is where string solicitation comes into -play, they are operating at maybe 30 or 40 percent and should be at least 50 percent.
They all "low E's" sound tubby like the string is too lax. "floppy"
50 to 60 percent of breaking point would make for a better tone in the wire.
The low E D'addario EJ 17's 0.56 breaks at 112 lbs. that is way way too hard, maybe?
At pitch---27lbs breaking at 112 lbs makes it tubby sounding.
They should break at approx 70 or 80 lbs.

Is there a chart you're using to look up this information? (breaking point for each string) I imagine that it depends on both diameter and the exact alloy of steel used (at least some strings are advertised to be made from stronger steel, e.g. D'Addario NYXL vs. their regular sets). For wound strings, does one need to use the diameter of the core for this calculation, not the entire string with wrappings?

We restore pianos and if the wrong wire is used, the tone quality suffers.
Getting the right wire can be difficult.
For best results music wire should operate at 50 to 60 % breaking point.
Testing the low E Daddario .056 broke at 120lbs the tension at pitch is 27.75lbs. written on the package.
We began making guitars 4 years ago and always trying to get good bass tone on the darn low E I began to suspect the string was operating at too low breaking point = tubby tone. "it bugs me"
The other wounds sound great but listening to all acoustic guitars the low E is just not good!
Now bring that low E way over pitch and it too sounds great like the others. raising breaking point.
Correct solicitation does not raise the tension! only the stretching amount closer to 50/60% = better tone.
The wire maker most likely Mapes? is partly responsible.
We know why this is so.
So-----I would like to try a smaller dia. core making the .056 and listen for the change.
Maybe get someone to listen and investigate this phenomenon.
We switched to 12/54s and the low E sounds much better so we go with those now on all our guitars mostly by musician request and it solved that problem.
      Thanks.

@@hampshirepiano6383 Thanks for the detailed response. It's interesting that you found .054" Low E working much better. It would have a lower breaking point, but the "at pitch" tension is also lower by a couple lb, so the ratio should still be well under the 50/60% target. You would need a string with a way smaller dia. core to get there, but it seems to me that such a string would be too floppy to be playable (at pitch tension would be very low).

      OK.
      Tension amount does not change!
It is the amount the wire has to stretch to reach that pitch. Same OD. just adjust the core dia.
A slightly smaller dia core wire will bring the breaking point up to a better musical result.
      I only tested the .056 .
Didn't bother to test the .054 because that string sounded good.
Hmm, I should test that one too out of curiosity.
The string maker doesn't listen to guitar makers and they make the low E like you say "floppy" almost and mostly because of attempts to get the best low bass note possible on such "inefficient" soundboards.
      Just to say!
The same thing happens to pianos, man on some concert grands the singles can pull 400lbs. each.

Tension/pitch does not change, it is the amount of stretch the wire does to reach the pitch.

Looking at the way he hangs his guitar on the wall, is he not afraid of damage to the tuners?

What are the string gauges on that McPherson.?

  • @willyyimable
    @willyyimable 2 роки тому

Those Mics are bit far from your position which more closer and lots better sound.
