@@zeefly226 early second quarter going for it down 7 against a team better than you at every level is not stupid. Stupid is not kicking a field goal to cut it to 1 mid 4th, clearly not as stupid as fumbling an end around a few plays later when you need to be calling your best plays.
How about the time-out he called when the Ravens had the ball near the end of the 2nd half? They were going to let the clock run out but then they scored because we forced them to pick up the first
The defense, which underperformed, has Fitz, Highsmith, Heyward and Watt...who all get paid handsomely. Cheap as fuck doesn't apply...loyal as fuck does!
In 53 years I think there's been *one* instance of a Steelers coach even being on a hot seat--the Rooneys came close to firing Chuck Noll after he went 6-10 in 1986, his 2nd straight losing season. Noll was allowed to stay on a lifetime contract in exchange for making staff changes (including firing a young defensive coordinator named Tony Dungy). Tomlin hasn't even reached that point yet even with the playoff drought.
The Steelers have the Dan Marino curse but it’s the Tomlin curse. Marino play would let the Dolphins win 3-4 games more than what their roster justified and thus prevent them from doing a much needed overhaul. Tomlin is the same way. He gets 8-8 seasons out of 5-11 rosters and 11-5 season out of 7-9 rosters because they never bottom out they never do a tear down. The Steelers have a 7-9-1 roster but a 10-7 record. They get into the playoffs but in reality are a 7-9-1 team with which over-performed because they have a good coach. What happens when you run into a 12-5 team also with a good coach that really should be 14-3? An ass kicking. That’s what happens.
I think this is spot on. I also think Tomlin is a better than average head coach who also has some glaring weaknesses, not least of which is in-game coaching decisions. But anyone who thinks another coach with this roster is playing in the AFC Divisional Round is deluding themselves. The Steelers vastly overachieved, but did so early in the season, which led to expectations getting way too high. This was a team that should have finished behind Denver, Cincinnati and Miami in the standings, looking at the respective roster constructions.
I wouldn't call it the most cowardly ever. You play the flow of the game, and when you're losing in the trenches you can't trust your offense to pick up one yard, especially when Baltimore will start in FG range.
I knew the game was over right then and there were showed no fight what so ever not going for it on 4th and inches. You mean to tell me Najee,Jaylen,Cordarill and/or Russ couldn't get that half yard?
@@steventomasi5557 yeah this game was decided because of a 4th and 1 on your own 28 early in the second. First game in history to be lost that quickly.
In Tomlin's defense, he went for it in a similar situation late in the second quarter in the Steelers' final regular season game. Didn't pick it up- and that resulted in the field position for Cincinnati to get the field goal that allowed the Bengals to win 19-17. That said, as far as bad quarterbacking- how much of that is not coaching up talented players, saddling them with lesser coordinators and the like? Frankly I felt he gave Kenny Pickett a dirty deal and looked at him as a real prospect that was coming along and a great story coming out of Pitt.
As a Bengals fan, I was TRULY SURPRISED that they didn't go for it on 4th and inches!! I mean, it just really showed that Tomlin is scared of the Ravens.
Going for it was the obvious call. Even if you don't make it by some chance, it's still better than punting it away to one of the hottest offenses in not only the AFC but the entire league. If they go for it, make it and score, then they're back in the game and not trailing 21-0 at the half. The reception by Pickens that got called back for offensive pass interference and even the penalty for running into the punter were all factors into Pittsburgh losing. This could've easily been a high-scoring shootout even if Henry was running all over the Steelers defense. Again just my two cents.
You forgot to mention the 2023 Eagles, who started 10-1, finished 11-6 with some brutal blow out losses, and got blown out by Tampa Bay in the wild card game
As a Raven fan, even I was shocked too Steelers punted!!! They should have gone for it. The King Henry TD run was communication issues, 3 defenders went after Lamar.
As a Steelers fan I understand both sides of the argument. It was early and they were deep in their own zone, so the best call is probably to punt instead of possibly putting your tired defense in a terrible spot. They have a depth chart for a reason. When players are tired just put somebody else in. On the other side of the argument they needed a momentum shift and getting that first down could have done that. But honestly in the end he made the right decision.
@@keokihiga8462 yea i didn't understand how this was video material! Its 4th down on your own 29, second quarter, only down by 7, who in their right mind goes for it there in pro football lol
If LA scored TDs on both of those drives they settled for field goals when they were up 6-0, then again, completely different ballgame possibly instead of losing 32-12.
The worst part about that team was, they gave Todd Bowles another season, I'm not even a Washington fan, however, I'm praying that they win, since, Tampa Bay, needs to stop rewarding him for his weak division, and, if Tony Dungy can get fired, anybody can.
As a lifelong Steelers fan the thing that scares me the most is that ownership is getting comfortable with barely making it into the playoffs and then going one and out.
The NFL is designed for parity. You want to beat the market average, get a top 10 QB and build an offense around him. Ask yourself: did the Steelers have that in 2024? Now ask yourself: "Why am I feigning surprise or being indignant?"
Yeah, this is bad. Wouldn't fire Tomlin, but I would fire the staff under him, and warn him he's next. The situation was crying out for a FAKE sneak or run turned into a play-action pass - the oppositon won't be expecting it at all!
As ravens fan i was stunned and speechless when i seen the punt team trotting out their not your typical Mike Tomlin decision Lamar and that offense had my man scared 😨
Imagine the message this sends to the entire team, both offense and defense. Head coach does not have enough confidence in his offensive line to make an attempt to pick up less than 1 foot of yardage.
Surrender Index score: This punt was from the 29, which gives it a base score of 1. Fourth and inches means no reduction. Losing by one score quadruples that score, and it was the first half, so the clock multiplier is 1. In total, that's a surrender score of 4. Not nearly enough to represent how bad of a decision this was.
He wasn't suspended for a play that could have, very, easily, injured a player, and, you, and, I, both, know for an absolute fact that, The, Rooney, Family, either, paid the fine themselves, and/or, reimbursed him.
Excellent Take - Excellent Delivery. I had the exact same reaction last night and was a little surprised no one else seem to notice….ive tracked Tomlin since lost to tibow, (like him), but knew he shouldnt beat that team . You can make a video a day like this on him. its like you took the words out of my mouth and added some good stuffing. No legitimate team should shy away from picking up a smidge like that, when your season is on the final line. Nice work, 🙇
First of all, the Steelers just LAST WEEK had a 2nd & 1 vs the Bengals and couldn't get 1 yard on 2 plays. You don't think Tomlin was thinking about that man, the Steelers SHOWED NO FIGHT in the first half and finally showed some medal in the 2nd half. The Steelers offensive was not good from Week 14 onward.
I’ve been an absolute Steelers fanatic for over 50 years. EVERY year begins full of hope & expectations - this year more so than most. I have lost most of my confidence and belief in Mike Tomlin and I would welcome a change. Everyone says Pittsburgh would be dumb to fire him, that he would have a new job immediately, and asks who we could target that is better?… Honestly, our poor coaching is the basis for us being a perennial disappointment, in spite of having a stacked roster. In response to the “who would they hire that is better?”, my response is “how could they be much more of an annual bust, especially considering the talent on your roster, across the board??
Fire Mike Tomlin? Now that would be a dumb decision. I don't particularly like the guy, since I'm a Ravens fan, and he did cheat Jacoby Jones out of a TD, but he has never has a losing season in 18 years. It would be nearly impossible to find a coach as good as him to replace him.
@Aubreykrendale By 1983, Terry Bradshaw knew he was cooked, but, desperately wanted, "one last paycheck," and, lied straight to Art Rooney's face, as a result, the Steelers didn't draft Dan Marino, Terry Bradshaw played in exactly one Game, before retiring following the season, despite, a lucrative broadcasting career ahead of him, he chose to betray the Steelers by being greedy, the Steelers didn't, remotely, recover from his treachery, until they drafted Ben Roethlisberger in 2004.
As a Jets fan, I wish he was my coach. I strongly disagree with the headline. However, the analysis of the decision is correct. I would have also taken Marty Schottenheimer back in the day. Tomlin should have went for it and taken the gamble.
This is why tomlin need to be fired he have not won a playoff game since 2016 and plus with that dumb move refusing to go for it on fourth and inches this dummy tomlin decided to punt.
Tomlin probably won't get fired (and despite their playoff struggles over the last decade or so, I don't really see any season that wouldve made him look firable). But I do question the June 2024 3-year extension of his contract. He's not a bad head coach, and I dont think anyone reasonable believes that he is; he's just past his time. Even so, Tomlin's a problem, but hes by far not the biggest issue right now. Russell Wilson tanked at the end (Justin Fields is missed), and Arthur Smith's offense laid an egg (if anyone needs to be gone, it's him; get a better OC and make Tomlin cede a bunch of playcalling control). Edit: I half-wonder if Pittsburgh's top brass are worried about falling apart completely if they get rid of Tomlin and end up with someone who can't do tbe job right.
Not a dumb decision. Interior line is not good enough to just go for it in the first half on your own side of the fifty. The game was not out of reach here no need to give them a short field with defense being porous.
I love this mans channel but I agree it's early at your own 30 I respectfully disagree with jg9 on this 1 I mean it with the most respect but this is not a dumb decision and normally I would go for it too in this situation but they have had problems all year 4th and short I can't stand the Steelers or Tomlin however on this 1 I disagree
@ This should be a perfect in defense of given the state of the team at this particular moment. But all “conservative approach” thought is being lost to time. I don’t even consider this a conservative call. You’re not getting the push. It’s early, they already bobbled a punt, we’re the best at special teams and still have a rep for takeaway’s. I also don’t think people understand there’s this newer strategy by D’s like where they lure you into the redzone and make you make the play. Empty yards, wasted time if you only get field goals or keep it a soft 3 score deficit. This exact team with Pickett has had walk off TDs. Keep the miracles for the 4th and don’t concede in the 2nd.
Tomlin should be canned, they wont do it, but yes he should be. This play isnt why they lost though. They averaged under 2.5 yards a carry last night. No way you go for it at your own 29 with that, and if you throw on 4th and inches its an automatic dumb decision anyways. Truthfully all 3 options that Tomlin couldve made there *wouldve* been a video today. Edit: BTW, the Steelers had an under 37% 4th down conversion rate this year. That is bad enough for 31st in the league.
They didn't need 2.5 yards to get the 1st down. We saw how 'trusting your defense' worked out. That phrase 'trust your defense' is in reality fake trust hiding behind fear. If Tomlin goes for it he shows he trusts both his offense and defense. What would Dan Campbell have done in this situation?🤔
The Rooney aren't inclined to do anything without another coach they have confidence in lined up. And of course you go for it. I don't know how much worse you think that game could've gotten or how much worse the pundits could've ripped into Tomlin but this is the game you grab your cajones and make your offense work for less than a yard. I guess you missed the part where the defense desperately needed the break
@willdiesel8431 the Rooneys have sat on their asses and ignored finding talent to rely on divas. Bryant, AB, Leveon, Pickens, it's a miracle they floundered to a ring since Cowher's retirement. And as bland as he was at least he kept Pittsburgh disciplined and they were in a place where finding talent and humility was consistent. Idc about a unit that was thoroughly dominated getting a break. Earn less time on the field by stopping a team. You're the most expensive defense in football for Christ's sake
@ShrexyGuy I think you have us confused with our overachieving baseball team. The Rooneys will not overstep unless the personnel in question does something criminal or is campaigning for a way out. Is that the best way to oversee a franchise? Probably not but throwing money at talent doesn't work either (See Cowboys). We are not a basement team and until we are the necessary changes won't happen. Oh and as for our defense. Yeah it's mediocre. Nothing about it comes close to the defenses of yester-year.
The NFL rewards both success and failure - success with playoff places and potentially a Super Bowl win, failure with good draft picks. The only thing NFL doesn't reward is mediocrity: when you're continuously both not bad enough to have a shot at game-changing players in the draft, and not good enough to compete for the Lombardi. My Ravens have been there for some time too - and chances are if they don't get the break of the century and see Lamar Jackson basically and miraculously fall into their lap in 2018, they would still be there...
I'm a Ravens fan. I agree that not going for it was stupid. I assumed he would go for it and make it. I didn't think they would score, but assumed they would get another bite at the apple. To me the timeout usage was more bazaar. Not just the fact that he didn't use his time outs earlier, but that he did use them with less than a minute left, down 2 scores and the Ravens in field goal range. He would have needed to score 3 times in 30 seconds just to get into overtime at that point. I actually thought that the Ravens should have kicked a field goal at the end, just to make a point.
10:30 I don’t think he made that decision despite anything you said. He did it despite logic, yes, but I don’t think he heard you say it and decide to do the opposite.
Pathetic excuses from a pathetic Steelers cry baby fan how does it feel getting blown out in the first round of the playoffs every single year that must feel great you idiotic fan that definitely helps out your franchise y'all are a bunch of jokers enjoy your mediocre average regular seasons just to get into the playoffs and get your asses whooped by anybody you face
Writing this early in the video so maybe you cover it later. This is the first season in Tomlin’s history that he has had a “win one game and secure the division” game (the 2nd game vs the ravens, on 12/21) in which he did not eventually win the division. All previous times he either won the game or won the next game that would secure it.
Another head scratcher was the timeout used near the end of the 2nd half. It was 3rd and 3 for Ravens, Tomlin just punted the ball back to them down 14. Now he wants the ball back. But why not wait to see if your defense stops them on 3rd down before stopping the clock. Well the Ravens do get the first down. With 1 minute left the Ravens drive the field and score a TD with 2 seconds left. That puts the game out of reach 21-0 at the half. Again why did Tomlin help the Ravens by calling timeout? If you valued a possession then why did you punt the ball back to the Ravens on a 4th and 6 near mid field? So it seems like Tomlin thought he had a Top 5 defense the way he was coaching this game. He erased everything from his memory on what happened the last 4 weeks.
That time out on 3rd and 2 with a little over a minute left in the first half was more frustrating for me. There was no way the Steelers were going to stop the play. Why call timeout in that situation gifting the Ravens an extra timeout.
i get it. these videos are basically your job now and you need content. but this is an overreaction and you saying "no. no it's not" doesn't mean it isnt. that said, yeah, if the idea is to ever win a super bowl again tomlin needs to go. but not because he punted in the second quarter from his own 29.
Anyone else notice that Justin Fields' passer rating for this game was exactly 39.6? He basically spiked the ball to the ground on his only pass attempt. Hate to help out the enemy but Arthur Smith's offense is trash; it's circa 1980s. Doc Tomlin and the Steelers need to reinvent themselves.
Last 6 playoff games...Ravens take 21-0 lead, Bills take 21-0 lead, KC scores 5 TDs in a row and lead 35-7, Cleveland jumps us at home and goes up 28-0, and the Jaguars jump us at home and take a 21-0 lead and the AFC championship Tom Brady owns us 36-9. So that is 6 blowouts in a row going back to 2016. Why are the Steelers so out of sorts in playoff games? Big Ben played in 4 of these games. These last 3 times the Steelers barely made it in and were the underdog. But the 2 home games the Steelers were favored to win and performed poorly at the start. It just shows a lack of urgency and readiness.
Could someone educate me? If the Steelers defense was on the field for most of the game and were fatigued, doesn't that mean the Ravens offense also would have been fatigued? Why is it advantage to the Ravens?
The defense has to keep up tempo with the offense. Usually the defense has to hurry up make subs and quickly get in position and make their assignments before the snap. While the offense controls when the play starts.

Cheapness was legendary, unquestionably.
Wasn’t he promised a good defense an it wasn’t there ?
Tomlin coaching like it's 1981.
More like 1971.
Tbf that is the most stillers thing possible
@@zeefly226 early second quarter going for it down 7 against a team better than you at every level is not stupid. Stupid is not kicking a field goal to cut it to 1 mid 4th, clearly not as stupid as fumbling an end around a few plays later when you need to be calling your best plays.
Tomlin is actually getting off easy on that punt call. No one is even talking about that, they're more focused on how bad the defense played.
How about the time-out he called when the Ravens had the ball near the end of the 2nd half? They were going to let the clock run out but then they scored because we forced them to pick up the first
Mike Tomlin deserves to be fired, but he's not getting fired because Steelers owners are cheap as fuck
Fatally counterproductive overachievment, unquestionably.
No longer advances, unquestionably.
You have it backwards. He coaches down to lesser teams when he had better talent
@@avoiceforthevoicelessA, Steelers', tradition, unquestionably.

@richardtherichard26 there, are you happy now
He is.
@KK-eg3em 😂🤣
I’m happy.
The local media is absolutely scared of Tomlin and the Steelers. They always suck up to the players, coaches and ownership.
Death taxes and the Steelers and chargers getting blown out the first round of the playoffs every single year are the guarantees of life
In Tomlin's defense, he went for it in a similar situation late in the second quarter in the Steelers' final regular season game.
The position coaches need replaced. Player development is often nonexistent. I’m looking at you Jones and JPJ.
Sometimes, you make a decision you normally wouldn't just to send your team a message that you got their back. This would've been one of those times.
Us Eagle fans are trying to forget that.
As a Raven fan, even I was shocked too Steelers punted!!! They should have gone for it. The King Henry TD run was communication issues, 3 defenders went after Lamar.
Quote by Mike Tomlin: “We don't live in our fears. We live in our hopes.”
Tomlin lives in the center of fear town. I honestly thought he would go for it. They had a fake punt on their 10 in one game.
Glad Steelers fans aren’t dumb like this guy. This video is giving me eagles and Andy Reid vibes.

As a lifelong Steelers fan the thing that scares me the most is that ownership is getting comfortable with barely making it into the playoffs and then going one and out.
Art Rooney II is a whole different animal. Let’s just hope Omar Kahn can be his own man and clean up the Kevin Colbert mess.
The NFL is designed for parity. You want to beat the market average, get a top 10 QB and build an offense around him. Ask yourself: did the Steelers have that in 2024? Now ask yourself: "Why am I feigning surprise or being indignant?"
What makes you think Steelers have the ability to make that yard?
Better chance to make that 12” than punt and stop Lamar and Henry.
Unrelated but I still love that "MO" in Baltimore is still highlighted. Forever more than a superfan ❤ RIP King 🙌🏾
Tomlin is clearly just showing up for the paychecks at this point.
Its always been that way
The ball was on their own 29 yard line and it was the second quarter. This is a little bit of an overreaction
Yeah JG9 whiffed on this episode
Ya think???
The last time the Steelers won a playoff game young Sheldon was number one on CBS in his fifth season
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I'm sorry to say this because I respect Tomlin but put him on the "Death note"
This may be the dumbest Dumb Decisions ever 😂
Yeah, this is bad. Wouldn't fire Tomlin, but I would fire the staff under him, and warn him he's next. The situation was crying out for a FAKE sneak or run turned into a play-action pass - the oppositon won't be expecting it at all!
As ravens fan i was stunned and speechless when i seen the punt team trotting out their not your typical Mike Tomlin decision Lamar and that offense had my man scared 😨
Scared as hell - Tomlin was scared of King Henry 👑 and #️⃣8️⃣ duo.
Imagine the message this sends to the entire team, both offense and defense. Head coach does not have enough confidence in his offensive line to make an attempt to pick up less than 1 foot of yardage.
12:56 It's not complicated; because criticizing Tomlin means getting branded as a racist.
I don't care anymore about that !
This comment is racist. 😂😂😂😂
As a Steelers fan, thank you. I’ve been calling for Tomlin to be fired since 2020. He plays scared
No lies told .
Tomlin ain’t goin no place soon.
Surrender Index score:
This punt was from the 29, which gives it a base score of 1. Fourth and inches means no reduction. Losing by one score quadruples that score, and it was the first half, so the clock multiplier is 1. In total, that's a surrender score of 4. Not nearly enough to represent how bad of a decision this was.
just remember the time when tomlin purposely stood in Jacoby Jones' way.
Went horrifically unpunished, unquestionably.
@@matthewdaley746 what are you talking about? Tomlin was fined for that.
Everyone says Pittsburgh would be dumb to fire him, that he would have a new job immediately, and asks who we could target that is better?…
Honestly, our poor coaching is the basis for us being a perennial disappointment, in spite of having a stacked roster.
In response to the “who would they hire that is better?”, my response is “how could they be much more of an annual bust, especially considering the talent on your roster, across the board??
Reminds me of when the Niners had 4th and inches to start the game in Miami, and didn’t go for it even though they had nothing to lose.
This week on “Days Of Our Steelers…”
Bradshaw said 15 years ago, "Tomlin is adequate and will never be anything more".
Spoken by the man who wrecked the franchise, for over two decades by being greedy, really, the irony's, so, thick, you'd choke on it.
@@matthewdaley746 What in living F are you talking about?

Tomlin’s not a coward. He just doesn’t trust his offense to gain a couple of inches against the Ravens. And rightfully so.
@@southfloridaarcheryguy114 do all these non Steelers people understand we’re bad at this particular situation and the RG was out?
Terrel Edmunds for Lamar Jackson
He should be Coach of the year for taking his team to the playoffs every year.

It's 2025, if you don't have a quality tush push play you're way behind the curve.
@ShrexyGuy you gotta be on the spectrum. No offense but none of what you stated makes sense.
The standard is the standard.
0:59 this years Steelers sound a lot like last year’s Eagles, but with the ineptitude on the defensive side of the ball.
Steelers will not fire Tomlin. Steelers don't fire their head coaches
He made the fricking playoffs with Russell Wilson!!! Why should he be fired?
NFL fans are getting dumber and dumber every year, I swear to god...

3:00. If Pat sticks the ball out it’s a high probability of a fumble. Punting from your own end early is not dumb and cowardly.
My god, we have the opposite of Dan Gamble! It's Mike Tomlin
You know why the media gives him a pass.
And again for the third time this year went more than 95+ yards again since the second time again and he doesn’t get blames
Tomlin phoned it in and dialed the wrong number.
They should replace him with Russel Wilson. He was the only person on that team that cared about that game last night.
The best part is they went for it on 4th and 15 later in the game🤣
That time out on 3rd and 2 with a little over a minute left in the first half was more frustrating for me. There was no way the Steelers were going to stop the play. Why call timeout in that situation gifting the Ravens an extra timeout.
As s Bills fan who has a coach who reverts to 1970s guy in big moments, i sympathize
i get it. these videos are basically your job now and you need content.
but this is an overreaction and you saying "no. no it's not" doesn't mean it isnt.
that said, yeah, if the idea is to ever win a super bowl again tomlin needs to go. but not because he punted in the second quarter from his own 29.
Maddeningly-Consistent, mediocrity, is, unquestionably.
But as far as not using timeouts inside 2 minutes was a dumb decision i agree
Word on the Wire says Justin Fields forgets his incoming plays… Man can’t memorize the play book. He will not be back💯
He looked totally intimidated.
Always
I thought he should have went for as well. I did see that they said that in the first half, Baltimore has the ball for 21 of the 30 minutes.
Tomlin has been subpar for 6+ years. There is no excuse and if Tomlin had any Integrity he would Quit !!
This should have been more than a 2 touchdown victory for the RAVENS! Especially with that many rushing yards!
