Just a thought, folks.... this was recorded on a video capture card, from my TV. It is not in HD sound, so you're not going to get all the tonal qualities you would hear live in studio. Just saying. :)
i can't believe how many people don't realize that you're not going to be able to tell the difference when the audio is compressed for a youtube video. anyone who hears the audio on this video and forms an opinion on the quality of stradivarius violins one way or another is an idiot.
I just don't like the music she choose to play, or maybe her technique was too terrible. It hurting my ears, really. I have heard many people play the Stradivarius and this is the worst violinist. I feel ashamed for the Stradivarius
The condenser mics they use in studios today just don't capture the fullness of things or even the air of the room the way the old RCA ribbon mics did back in the 30s through early 60s. I owned an RCA BK-11 for a while. All you needed was one on each end of a soundstage to pick up _everything_. Listen to Heifetz in the old movies and he sounds great even through the hiss.
Actual double blind studies have shown that there is no subjective difference between Strads by different makers, including Strads made by Strad! Even top violinists can't, if the source of the music is concealed by a curtain (acoustically transparent), determine if the music they're hearing is from a Strad made by Stradivari, or one made by a modern maker. Further, even the people PLAYING them couldn't tell, when blindfolded, if they were playing a Stradivarius original or not. It's all hype. But I feel no compassion to someone who shells out 3.5 million for a fiddle and 200k for a bow.

Stacy Layton Hi Stacy. There have been at least two double blind studies. . By the way, the "study" you referenced is no real study at all. It is not "double blind". The person playing the violins is playing his own. He knows which is the strad. Only one person is playing (the strad's owner) so the sample could not be smaller. In the double blind studies, nobody knows which is the strad. The players are blindfolded. The players are screened from the audience, so the audience can't see who or what is playing. The playing is done in different venues on different days. There are multiple players. Now THAT is a "study". The strads we see today look "new" because they have been re-varnished and maintained. Almost none of the original varnish remains on any strad being played today, which was one of the factors that ruled out "secret varnish recipes" as a contributor to the strad's sound. Antonio had excellent tonewoods available to him. Carpathian maples, the finest spruce. He had meticulous craftsmen and craftsmanship in his shop. His violins were prized in their day, and were played often and well maintained (mostly). Dinged or scratches have no effect on the sound of the violin. How the violin is handled (thus, dings and scratches) has no correlation to its construction quality. I have just finished making my first violin. Took me two years, as it was a hobby project. I learned a lot in that process. There are a lot of shiny violins on the market with no corner blocks in them.
My vintage Knilling 10KF violin sounds exactly like her Strad, well maybe a little warmer in tone. I changed my strings to real gut and used a slightly thicker sound post and moved it closer to the bridge. And of course, it had a lot to do with talent.
well, one problem is that this video makes it sound like crap, in the studio they were probably having chills from its amazing sound, here it sounds terrible because its a 2010 video
The second she said it was in new condition I knew it wasn't going to be everything it can. The Lady Blunt will have this problem once someone finally starts to play it. It's very obvious right from the beginning that it needs to open up. I'm glad someone will play it daily but we may not hear it's potential for a long time.
Her vibrato was perfect for the piece she was playing, but maybe that's a preference thing because I don't like David Garret's vibrato most of the time
Her vibrato was perfect for the piece she was playing, but maybe that's a preference thing because I don't like David Garret's vibrato most of the time
A person's vibrato is one of the very very few options that are not regimented on paper and allow for a very small amount of liberty in playing a piece. Some people, in fact most older generation professional music authorities are appalled at the level of personal liberty that is taken in applying the personality and emotion of the player into the piece and forming that with the intention of the music writer. I on the other hand appreciate hearing the integration of the regimentation of the writer and the personality of the player into the final product that we hear.
I would like to hear if she sounds any different if she kept at least close to the same outward relaxed sympathetic projection, i.e facial expression, when playing, that I see in her face when she isn't playing.
Why Gershwin on a Stradivari? It's almost a dishonor to the instrument. I want to hear that on clarinet, not on this wondrous instrument! Not to downplay the mighty Gershwin at all, or the Clarinet (My principal instrument), I would just like to hear some period appropriate music such as Vivaldi on this particular Violin.
gotta agree on that....an insult to any top class fiddle...or is that the only kind of "classical" music audiences would understand?!....a kinda "sure fire thing"?!
Doug P I don't agree that a song choice dishonors a great instrument. But I don't think that's the best tune for her playing technique. I've watched her do a few renditions of "Summertime". I think she likes it, but she ain't quite got the blues! Now, if we could resurrect Stephane Grappelli and give him a Strad... Love to hear Meyers play Bach, though.
Holy frijoles! Vunderbar! Magnifique! Astounding! Now I know why my $200.00 fiddle was $200.00. Even through my cheap computer and cheaper speakers that is one of the most amazingly beautiful sounding instruments I've ever heard!
Perhaps Stradivarius made this violin for beginners! It really does not sound perfect to me... Or maybe this unknown piece she played made the violin sound cheap!
What if those were the Chinese knockoffs of its day but being over 300 years old now it's the Mona Lisa of violins? 🤔 that would burst a lot of bubbles.
but they werent sorry to burst that bubble lol, but these guys were comissioned by kings and queens like Da Vinci was for his art and other talents, some he was widely hated for and made him contrevercial like his biology, chemistry and all in all fascination and explorations in science, Antonio Stradivari, Niccoló Amati, J.B. Vuillaume were all payed handsomely and were famous.
I dont buy it. I dont believe it. the Strad hype. Violins are set up. This one is probably set up by the best. But can one really tell a difference between a modern master instrument setup properly and a strad? I dont think so. Anne akiko myers is a fantastic player. and this song is beautiful...
For decades i've been looking to steal one from somebody. It all begin in the 8th grade violin class up to now.But i've been unsuccessful in my attempts to do so...;)))))
I still enjoy my lesser inexpensive but the sound the Stradivarious has is Amazing...and unique. Maybe I'll buy one if only in my dreams....Lemon Drops...schuuiiiiiiiii...haha..or get this Lucky Charms Cereal based on a song...hehe
People are stupid to buy for the "sound". Every study has shown that professionals can't tell the difference between stradivarius violin and others. In one study the lowest rated was a stradivarius and the highest was a 1980ish out of 6 violins.
Johannes Pihl : You're very correct!!!!! It's very difficult to control the powerful sound of a Stra or a Guar violin at the first touch!!! It may take months to understand the sound and make the violin love you!
Hard to believe she has those two comfort attachment on an instrument like that.A true appreciator of the instrument would consider those as a rolls Royce owner would consider allowing a bumper sticker on his car. They alter the perfect sound of the instrument.
+mastersduhgree ...There is no perfect sound of any Instrument, plus your RR/bumpersticker comparison is irrelevant since the sound of the Rolls is NOT altered by the sticker...LOL. True, a shoulder rest, a neck cloth, fine tuners (metal!), even the position of the soundpost, the type of strings, and last but not least the bow, all these assets DO alter the sound - and Miss Meyers knows best which sound she likes best to her own ears. Her alternative instruments certainly will sound and respond (playability) totally different.
Clarke Alonzi Stradivarius was a pioneer of the modern violin - most violins now are "Stradivarius copies" so the instruments he made then wouldn't be different to what you can buy from violin makers now
you have no idea what you are talking about sadly, she is excellent, just poor sound quality on 2010 videos and plus, this probably an off day, she earned the loan of the best violin on the planet probably, she did not buy this so this is not a video representative of her talent.
I am really disappointed, just throw me the sound without any descriptions about neither Anne Akiko Meyers nor Stradivarius, I would think of a violin student plays on his cheap one.
Just throwing it out there that O'Reilly would likely never have the class or taste to invite a classical musician on his show to play their instrument
if i had that kind of money ...i defently would not pay over 3 millions for a fiddle ...it's over 3 hundard years old and looks like new ...it's been fixed over ...dont you think in 3 hundard years it wouldent have a few dinks and kinks lol hah it's not the real one our it's been fixed and varnashed ...use ya head people lol...any thing thats 3 hundard years old ...and not a scratch goshy goshy goshy lol ...
Honestly I don't care what you would spend your money on, you clearly aren't a musician. However the fact you call Stradivari's absolure masterpiece a "fiddle" is the most insulting thing you could do. Have some respect.
Just a thought, folks.... this was recorded on a video capture card, from my TV. It is not in HD sound, so you're not going to get all the tonal qualities you would hear live in studio. Just saying. :)
buzzkill
LOL :)
Just wanted to say that that was my mentor's former violin - Elmar Oliveira! It's so great to have this instrument passed on to a great violinist.
Sounds like a Suzuki violin in that studio......
i can't believe how many people don't realize that you're not going to be able to tell the difference when the audio is compressed for a youtube video. anyone who hears the audio on this video and forms an opinion on the quality of stradivarius violins one way or another is an idiot.
i agree
+THE GREAT SET I disagree
So how i can "form an opinion about stradivarius" ?
I just don't like the music she choose to play, or maybe her technique was too terrible. It hurting my ears, really. I have heard many people play the Stradivarius and this is the worst violinist. I feel ashamed for the Stradivarius
Ngọc Như Nguyễn hahaha
My heart skipped a beat on the beginning. XD
That was quite funny
Bahahahhaha! Nice.
beuuuurk.....what a bad piece of music for such a wonderful item
Well, sounds a bit flat doesn it...
It's recording quality, mics, dry studio, not violin
My godfather's friend thought that a Stradivarius was an expensive rifle lol.
I did NOT find the first 30 seconds amusing. It hurt even though i knew it was fake.
I know I was like WTH?!?!
Fake? What was fake?
It's just a status symbol.

That song made my soul hurt. eue...
STRAD is NOT FOR EVERYBODY !!! She is a NOT right person
+Gregory Ludkovsky I agree. Her playing isn't that high level...don't like her vibrato IMHO...or is it the violin?
At least she played with it. Such a shame many other Stradivarius are put into boxes and treated like a piece of wood
+Gregory Ludkovsky She's a very high-level and famous concert violinist.
not to be rude but i hated the sound of the violin plus she needs to practice more too
My vintage Knilling 10KF violin sounds exactly like her Strad, well maybe a little warmer in tone. I changed my strings to real gut and used a slightly thicker sound post and moved it closer to the bridge. And of course, it had a lot to do with talent.

Darn I have to adjust my amp this sounds too trebly
Only people who know how to play the instrument should get that. Her vibrato was atrocious!
Her vibrato was perfect for the piece she was playing, but maybe that's a preference thing because I don't like David Garret's vibrato most of the time

TheKingOfChem True virtuosi don't go about spouting put downs of other players. So what instrument do you play? The ukulele?
Summertime...
this isntrument shouldn't be in property of someone, more in property of a museum.
I would like to hear if she sounds any different if she kept at least close to the same outward relaxed sympathetic projection, i.e facial expression, when playing, that I see in her face when she isn't playing.
Her and Lindsey Stirling need to get together and create masterpieces
Definitely
No. Just no.
She owns another more expensive Strad if I'm not mistaken.

+Tommy „Guitarface“ Marshall ...Indeed Grapelli did own a Strad and swingbluesed it beautifully.
Only the most trained ear could tell her E string was flatter than a pancake.. Just saying
Over 300 yrs old, like it was "built yesterday". Shit was built to last once upon a time...
we all know guarneri makes far superior violins then a strad lol.
+95thRiflesOCI Also makes a very good smoked bone-in ham lol

+Rami N.H There are indeed "weak" Strads in the market, some had undergone irresponsible changes and/or repair.

i have been listening for her violin for a long time but somehow... this one sounds awful, it's emotionless
The sound mixer sucks. Turn down her lav mic for chrissake. you're not suppose to hear her f'ing breathing over the music
MrAjk265 I enjoyed that part better than the violin part...
Joe Bonamassa version of a classic musician
A beautiful instrument, beautifully played!
curious irreverence, one thing for sure, she doesn't take things too seriously.

Stradivarius Violin is much harder to play, so obviously they aren't gonna be able to pull a wonderful sound from it. Get your facts straight kid.

Akiko Meyers is HAWT.
If it was made in the 1600s, wouldn't that make it a modern-converted baroque violin?
Clarke Alonzi
Stradivarius was a pioneer of the modern violin - most violins now are "Stradivarius copies" so the instruments he made then wouldn't be different to what you can buy from violin makers now
She should be very careful on choosing strings on that violin :s
Even though the first part was fake i still panicked a bit -_-
It'd be great if a better violinist played the thing
you have no idea what you are talking about sadly, she is excellent, just poor sound quality on 2010 videos and plus, this probably an off day, she earned the loan of the best violin on the planet probably, she did not buy this so this is not a video representative of her talent.

I'm just $3.5M shy of owning one...
only 645 Stradivari exist in the world today .. 2013
Lol, I loved the joke at the beginning
I think I just died. Wow that is not worth 3 mil
Stradivari italian 15 milioni euro
AKM not my favorite violinist.
Cut to the mustard -->ua-cam.com/video/CoPJrgF3FZw/v-deo.html
My Gliga sounds better :-)
oh .... she was out of tune towards the end...
0ci
wtf she could at least play it properly
my friends call me woodworm...i eat my way through stradivariuses
sounds like any other violin to me...
every single violin has a unique tone? i can hear a huge difference, it's pretty apparent
People tend to develop an ear for such things, much like people can taste wine variances in a single sip.
Nick: you can't hear the difference on something like UA-cam. In concert you would.
but I watch those concerts on youtube
Nick Huynh on youtube?
Money well spent.
Just throwing it out there that O'Reilly would likely never have the class or taste to invite a classical musician on his show to play their instrument
hahah
She should have played some Bach, yikes that was awful.
The Yamaha Artida 500 violin sounds much better than this!

After you become a world-renowned concert violinist, report back here about the "fiddle" you've purchased to transcend your listeners.
Hate to break it to you but a Fiddle is different to the Violin especially a 3 million Stradivarius
Yes I know. And you have one of the best Violins there is. Love your plaing..Sets my heart on fire..I was joking didn't mean a word of it..
robert b Yeah, right.
Honestly I don't care what you would spend your money on, you clearly aren't a musician. However the fact you call Stradivari's absolure masterpiece a "fiddle" is the most insulting thing you could do. Have some respect.
