I too was like Konachan back when Cons didn't get overly commercialize and mainstream. I also had battle plans to search for cheap affordable books... but nowadays cons just feel like you're being conned because you're being peddle overpriced stuff. I miss the old days of the cons.
Or knockoff stuff. I feel bad for the you get people who save up a lit of money, only for them to buy overpriced knockoffs that haven't even released. There are people who do sell the originals, but seeing all the knockoff Chinese stuff upsets me.
It's now like this at _every_ popular con. Animexpo in LA, Otakon in DC, Gamescon in Germany, and _especially_ big industry events like CES in Vegas. There's no place to sit, lines everywhere. The main thing that's better about conventions that aren't Comiket is the fact that you don't have to line up just to move to another building.

コスプレ参加をしていたな。 まだコミケがのんびりしていた時代の話。
コミケ関係なくホテル浦島は何度か泊まったことがある。
出張であのあたりに行くことがあって、最後に泊まったのは2002年だったかな？
次の年に無くなっててちょっとビックリしたわ。
