Planning this last minute for this halloween! But im using satin fabric instead of cotton. I like the sleek and heaviness on the cape with some shine. And instead of painting the lights, i used a reflective plastic material that’ll make it shine and kinda give off a shiny rainbow appearance. I really appreciate you posting this tutorial! And right on time too! 😆

Same- it’s Oct 29 and even though I started a couple weeks ago the sewing was really only done today- it got messed up on some parts because the fabric I’m using is to stretchy but it’s fine. Idk if I can handle the topstitching though :’) I’m in pain

adding onto this, i've just started and after a lot of research, if you want a more game-accurate cape, then here is how you should do the cape's wedges! the back has 5 wedges in total, and the front flaps have 6 wedges on each side. the 5 on the back are mostly the same size, and same for the front 6 on each side. so, measure the circumference, and create six roughly equal-sized wedges on each. in total, you should have 17 wedges! and, the 5 back wedges go until just at the edge of the middle point of the cape, where your arms would likely rest.

Oh! Making it without a sewing machine would pretty much be the same process! Just minus the sewing machine and making it by hand whichhh can be much longer, but I'm sure the process would be very worth it with a sky cape at the end✨ I'm not an expert, so I would probably do a simple running stitch to hold it all together or a backstick for a little more stability. Then when you turn the cape inside out, do a ladder stitch by hand to close it up! You could probably skip doing the topstitching at the end to save yourself some sanity!
I hope that all makes sense! I'll be here if you need more help or tips!

At this point, I would look up how to sew clothes by hand or just handsewing basics since there's only so much I can do with my words and there's tons of videos and blogs out there that can help with visual aid hehe. Handsewing isn't my area of expertise either 😅 But if you're willing to learn and put in the work, you can 100% make this cape on your own!!! You got it!!!

I wonder if something in between game accurate and blanket would be 7/8ths as 3/4 or 6/8 (those are equivalent fractions) and full circle is well full on blanket. Seems like an experimental way to make a cape.
Other tips maybe?
I also wonder if making stars glow in the dark stars or shimmery would be a fun idea
wash your materials before sewing as last thing I want is for your cape to shrink on you
Also Iron your pieces before, during and after sewing, (by during I mean after every seam is made) makes it more cripsp, however, I'm unsure if that would work or would be necessary for a blanket. check the tags on how to wash them and search the fabric to see if it can withstand ironing. I guess?

And ah! If I had glow in the dark paint, I would've 100% done that!!! With my game-accurate Sky cosplay, I did add a layer of glitter paint for the shimmery vibes hahaha~

I don't think I'm going to put this cape handmade on my shop. It's a tempting thought, buuuuut there's a few reasons why I'm hesitant to put it up. First one being that it goes against Sky's TOS😅 Additionally, with how much effort goes into making one of these, it will probably be just as expensive as the Sky capes already on the market, if not more if I include the material costs hehe. \

I am myself using 2 cotton fabrics to make a cape, is there anything you would do differently if you had used cotton instead of blankets..? Also I want to add something to hold the wrists at the end of the cape, what would you use to do that and how would you attach it..?

Hehe you're very welcome! Glad I could provide some assistance for your cape!
With cotton... I believe that's a thinner fabric compared to blankets, right? So I would make a proper 3/4th circle cape with cotton fabric instead of a full circle cape. it would look something like the Sky cosplay I made a few years ago at 1:39
With that, just mark out a full circle on your fabric, but when you cut it out, also cut out a quarter of the fabric. Everything else I would do exactly the same in this video.
Ooh, for something to hold the wrists... I would probably use elastic. Again with my Sky cosplay at 1:39 in the video, I sewed some elastic to some ribbon to make some "bracelets" and then sewed snaps on both the "bracelets" and the cape so that I could attach them to my cape whenever I wanted. I don't remember if that worked well or if the bracelets stayed attached to the cape while I wore them, but that's definitely an option! Or you could just sew some elastic loops directly to the cape!

I think you could use elastics (as said above) on the wrists, or add some fishing line around the neck to hold the two parts together- the cloth should naturally drape over your arms. The cloth I used was pretty thick and heavy, so it holds its shape like that and stays on pretty well normally, but idk if it works the same for other fabrics.

Since it's made of blankets, it's pretty solid and a lil heavy, so it's able to just stick around and stay there! When I really want it to stay on, I just safety pin it closed around my neck hehehe✨

Any kind of sewing machine will work! I didn't use anything fancy for this hahaha~ I'm not a sewing expert, so honestly any durable thread and any fabric will do for this specific project haha~ Just keep in mind the thickness of the fabric and the kind of look you want to achieve! Thicker fabrics will work better for a full circle cape while thinner ones would probably look better as a 3/4ths cape!

Haha that would be wild if those places sold these, huh? My biggest concern there is ultimately the lack of quality and if people are being exploited to make them in mass so that they can be sold cheaply 😅 Part of why I'm all for making these things by hand!

Uhhh considering that it's an ellipse, I don't know how best to answer this question. It does come down to about my waist on the shorter sides and then the longer sides go down further tooooo.. haha my butt.
But considering that it does follow a throw blanket's dimensions, it's 50"x60"-ish. Hope that answers your question😅

And honestly, I don't care a lot about religion either. The only religion God cares about is is to take care of orphans and widows (those in need) and to keep oneself pure and uncorrupted from this world (really meaning to not be like the world and hate and steal or do drugs or sin), which I'm sure we can say are very good things indeed. What I really care about is having a relationship with God! That's what He really wants! He's shown me His immense love that's transformed every aspect of my life that it's impossible to *not* believe in Him✨ I used to be bisexual and He's shown me who He made me to be and gave me a new identity as His daughter and princess!✨✨ He's even given me joy like no other that comes through even when I'm going through hard times (like my finals right now) and man, His love fulfills me and satisfies me like nothing else can. Not even fun video games like Sky:Children of the Light give me the same satisfaction that God does~~
All this to say that hey! God's real and He loves you very, very much and He wants to have a relationship with you💖💖
