PARKER LAKE | Our 2½ year old daughter’s first Sierra backpacking adventure | Aug 2024

Fatherhood came full circle for me this trip. I FINALLY GET IT. We have been waiting for this day since the day we found out my wife was pregnant. Aptly, our daughter's name is Ali Sierra. Ali translates to ‘high’ in Arabic, and named after my father-essentially making her ‘High Sierra’. She was carried for maybe 10 to 15 minutes max on our way up and hiked the entire way down. I am so damn proud of her, and am a happy baba (father). Her trail name has yet to be determined. 😆
If you are wondering why Grumpy Monkey was sitting on a log the next morning, it is because we unnoticeably dropped him on the hike up. Being a popular trail with plenty of children, we were worried that he would not be there the next day. To our surprise, however, someone was nice enough to sit him on a log where we would surely notice him on the hike down.
Fun fact: my wife and I took our engagement photos at Parker Lake, making this place all the more special to share with our daughter for her first overnight hike. 💞
