Talk about leaning forward and smashing onto the transition to boost. It would be cool to have a tour of local parks and best lines with a voice over.

@@MaLaCoiD do you mean keep your weight forward on the flat and shift it back as you pump up the transition?

I know this is completely off topic but: During the summer and with your experience, what time of the day do you find best to skate? Early in the morning or at dusk/night and why? Thanks!

I’m 41 and started skating for the first time ever last year at the beginning of COVID. Learning to carve bowls is fun for me because it feels like less of a risk for my older bones and a bit easier to have fun as a straight up newbie. I can’t skate bowls everyday because of work and family so it’s taken a long time to get where I’m at…I have only rolled in, never successfully dropped in. Your video format and content inspire me to get out there and try. I don’t have friends that skate so UA-cam is it for me. I dig your skate style and look forward to all your video releases. Thank you 🙏🏻

Good on you for picking it up at 41! Stoked this video can be of some inspiration, I love just carving around!

I re learned last year too after 31 years off. I wasn’t very good to begin with. At 43 I learned to drop in (you CAN do it and it IS easy) and am working on getting more efficient with my pumps. I watched “Freewheelin’” which came out the year I was born (1976!!) and Stacey Peralta does this flat ground pumping to get speed. I am mastering that and I think it’ll help me with the nuances in bowl riding. Not a ton of opportunity to get in the bowls by me but I try to get there as often as possible.

i actually downsized in wheels from 60mm to 55mm. and while the 60mm roll fast. 55mm accelerate faster. so i gain more momentum from my pump. so id say bigger isnt allways better.
i actually woulnt ask locals for the line. probably my favorite thing about bowls is finding a line myself. trail and error. the harder the bowl the more satisfying to find the lines.
last week got to skate a couple really tight and steep bowls. if you where like 10" off youd be done. youll hit a crazy steep vert wall straight on and lose all your speed. trying over and over again to find exactly where to hit each wall and slowly piecing together how to maintain your speed gives me so much satisfaction.

Thanks so much Zack man, this helps a lot! I rekindled my love with skateboarding but this time transition skating is all new to me. I’ve always skated street, stairs, flat ground, but never go around to learning anything on ramps or bowls even though I have decent skateparks around me! Now with your tips, I’m going to hit my local bowl and improve my transition skating! Woohoo!! 👍 😎

Why is it that lifting the wheels stalls your momentum so much?
Scum line seemed like a weird term until I realized that it comes from skating empty pools that sometimes fill with rainwater and get a line of scum at the 1/3 mark or so.
I don’t get over to my local bowl too often because they don’t allow my son’s scooter but when I do, I try to follow a line and get higher or faster, or see how many corners I can reach before a mistake steals my speed. It’s great fun. Thanks for the tips as always. Can’t wait to get back to the outdoor spots once it warms up (heck, just dries up) in NY. 🥶

I've often wondered what your opinion on graffiti at skate parks is.
I wondered this as you can see some that's been removed from that park. How come some parks tolerate it and others don't?
Me personally I see graffiti as a part of the same scene and I love it. I'm a writer myself and there's always been and always will be a lack of legit spaces to paint. I've always enjoyed doing ramps etc. But my local park always removes writers work.
    What's your two cents?

Spray paint can fuck up the skate surface. Rather on walls

There’s what the other reply said but I also think it’s just public opinion and like how much the community cares and govt funding as well

    • @ZackDowdy
      @ZackDowdy  3 роки тому +2

I think it really depends on a variable of things, one reason I DON'T like graffiti at skateparks is it'll make the transition slippery, especially if it's extremely smooth transition during the winter the paint makes it so the water just sits on top of the concrete so you can't really skate it. In other situations where the concrete is a bit rough or has more texture the paint and graffiti helps make it more tolerable, I know that's not a yes or no haha - really depends on the location. I prefer the graffiti be on walls not on transition.
