Gumball Machine Customization - Painting a Thrift Store Candy Dispenser 🍬

- Cutthroat haggling, thunderstorm delays, and sugary treats- watch as I give this thrift store gumball machine a total makeover.
And, yeah... it may have started as an M&Ms dispenser but I refuse to let a candy machine tell me what to do.
So... I stumbled across this candy dispenser while roaming a #thriftstore and I was shocked it hadn't been scooped up yet. Even though I had no clue what I was going to do with it, I knew I had to grab it- especially since it was in such great shape and the restoration work would be minimal.
The first and hardest part of customizing this #candydispenser was the removal of the M&Ms logo. Apparently, M&M’s takes their branding pretty seriously so it took a few different methods before I was successful, but it was crucial in transforming this from an m&m’s dispenser into a #gumballmachine - not to mention it would just be in the way of the design I planned on #painting.
As far as the customization went, I used a few different mediums. Spray paint worked perfectly for the candy dispenser base and a combo of glass paint, acrylic paint, and posca paint markers were used on the glass portion that holds the #gumballs.
My goal was to keep the design lighthearted and fun and while making sure the top and bottom of the gumball machine felt like one continuous piece of #art. I think I hit both of those points. Now, excuse me while I look for quarters in my couch cushions.

That looks awesome! Thanks for the inspiration! I am going to soon paint a jellybean machine! I can't wait for the final look of it!
Very nice project. I have a couple machines I picked up from thrift stores and one included a stand. My larger one also needs a new glass globe after my dig whacked his tail into it and broke off a chunk of glass😢. I'll probably get an acrylic globe to keep it from happening again. They both need to be repainted but still in good working order.
Hilarious video and awesome work!!! 😂
great job!!!
Thank you!!
I love candy and all things candy! This is f-n awesome!
Candy is the greatest! Glad you like it!
INSPIRED to say the absolute least
Thank you!!! Glad you like it!!
What the heck? !!! This should be viral! Beautiful piece of art.
Thank you! Glad you like it!!! 😃
I agree
Not sure if you might've had the plastic hopper part back to front which could cause the Jam, if those Gumballs are too big try the 12mm ones (about the size if a Haribo Moam Pinball if you've seen them).
Awsome paint job though, I've got one I'm currently restoring but I've just gone for a pearlesant red rather than graphics and a Dr Pepper decal.
You can never go wrong with pearlesant red. Best of luck with the project. The gumballs were too big. This size looks good in the machine so I just take them out of the top. 😃
@@Timdeckerart Thanks man, ones you might like are the Zed Candy ones, similar size but you can get what they call Terroreyes which have different colour eye designs on them, I've got a mix of these and their Pool Balls waiting to be loaded in.
This is rad dude, giving me some ideas for my own work :)
Thanks Matt! Appreciate it! Had a few challenges but happy with the result. Best of luck with the work you are doing.
Thank you for this! I have a jelly bean machine I also got at the thrift store and took it all apart and spray painted it pink but couldn’t figure out how to get the jelly bean logo off the glass bowl
The man had no luck in this video but in the end we got to see an amazing art work from him, so if you guy that watches his videos and sees this comment, shout out for him (on any social media), show the things he does and his videos to your friends and family. If you watch his video you can see he works hard, so give him some appreciation.
