    For other learners, this is how I use Easy French to really help with comprehension:
    1. I watch the first 30-60 seconds without looking at the subtitles, solely focused on listening. I will maybe repeat this process 1-3 times.
    2. I go back and rewatch the same 30-60 seconds, but this time look at the French subtitles, covering up the English with my fingers. Sometimes I will even pause the video to really read each sentence!
    3. Finally, I rewatch the same 30-60 seconds again and look at the English and French as simultaneously as I can.
    ...Then I repeat this process with the next 30-60 seconds of the video and so on!!!
    I have such a passion for learning French! I look forward to my lessons everyday. It’s the most beautiful language in the world!!! Thanks Easy French!!!!(:

    I get the impression that Americans view and glorify Paris the way some French people view and glorify New York. Both are smaller parts of a whole and aren’t fully representative of each country but often define the whole country to outsiders.

      It’s the case.
      It’s not because a country is smaller that it is less culturally diverse.
      Look at the UK, it’s smaller than both Texas and France and yet there are scottish, welsh and english cultures living together.
      Look at Spain, there is the Basque people, the Catalonian people or the Andalousian, and they are all very different and historically don’t speak the same language.
      The same goes for France, eastern french people (Alsatian and Lorrainer) have a strong germanic culture while southern-east french people (Povençal) have a culture very close to Northern Italians and south-west french people are very related to Northern Spaniards such as the Basque or the Catalonians.
      Then the North-Western french (Breton) have a tipycal celtic culture.
      Almost every countries have strong cultural divide and difference within themselves.
      May be Luxembourg is an exception, because these guys really are too small.

      What's interesting to me is that Darren Star who's a main writer for Sex and the City( also helped to write Emily in Paris) and SATC is known for being a poor representation of New York. Carrie Bradshaw from SATC lives in Manhattan and there's almost no black New Yorkers to be seen! So to answer your question, I hope not! Darren Star tends to represent places fully inaccurately and Americans realize Emily in Paris is a very silly and privileged shitfest.

For French people who are amazed at how BIG the US, on the other hand I was amazed by the castles I visited in France. It was like living in history past and present. I actually like the way the French dress in France. Most people say that Paris is more casual but I was living in Angers and Tours and let me just say that I felt like I had to dress like I was going to a cabaret everyday on my way to the university. It was really a cool experience. French food is the best and I enjoyed the social aspect of everything. They hang out more and enjoy each other’s company more. I also love their way of having engaging conversations even on the most simplest topic. I don’t know why but I felt more French than American. The US is cool too though, I just prefer France and its people, j’admets que ça me convient plus.

Some people in the US look like they just hopped out of bed, which can be alarming 🛌 😂😂. Additionally, while Americans can be warm I don’t find New Yorkers warmer than Parisians. I'm honestly pretty surprised by how kind the answers were. I expected to hear similar things like on 'Easy German' (Not to say we shouldn't be criticized or anything, quite the opposite) but the Parisians seemed nicer than the Berliners. Which I find strange in some ways. Maybe I just don't know much about either city or their people.

      Germany has an obsession with the USA, it is engraved into their culture. My mother came here from Germany and her entire family are in Germany and they have a psychotic obsession with the USA. Did you know that its a front to pretend to dislike the US? Germany is also heavily financially dependent upon the USA. They honestly shouldn't bite the hand that feeds them. I lived in Germany, visited my family there, they're all nuts.

    Interesting video and topics. I'm an American born and raised in Miami, lived there 27 years before moving to Spain for 6 years now. The US is massive, roughly the same size as Europe, and differs immensely from state to state and region to region, we have uniformity of language, but the culture varies greatly all around the states. The city I'm from, for example, is predominantly Latino. So it's hard to generalise, but I do love to see what opinions people around the world have of us. I remember when I first came to Europe I had vastly different expectations to what I've found. I do find America tends to be more serious and work/money oriented (than Spain at least), which is an American quality I dislike.
    Anyway, I've gotta say the opinion towards the US, at least in Spain, has changed a lot in the past 6 years, what with Trump out of office and all that. I wonder how it's changed since then in France as well.

As a US citizen, in Louisiana, I can say that Americans are vastly different depending on the region you are from. I could attempt to explain this, but as we know, our culture is easily offended these days, so I will refrain from saying so. Having visited Paris for 5 weeks 20 years ago, I remember as an American with limited French vocabulary, it was difficult for me. People were not always so kind if I attempted to speak French with them. This was not always the case, though, and I did have some nice interactions while there. Our culture here is generally laid back and friendly. We like small talk here. A more meaningful relationship is more difficult, as with everywhere, and takes time to develop. I find we as a society are more sexually free here, which is not a good thing I would say. I get the impression that the French are generally more moral, or perhaps more conservative in this sense. My ancestors came to America in the mid-1800's from Marseille. I hope to go back to France, someday, possibly to retire, back to my roots, to where my people are from.

    I'll be the first to admit that we Americans are partially to blame for how we are viewed. Since the vast majority of us only speak English, when we travel abroad, we expect that English will be spoken to whichever city we visit. This is incredibly arrogant. We are very expressive and can be loud, but a lot of that is due to the fact that there is so much history in plain view that we simply do not have here. Europe is impressive with its architecture and art, style, etc. It was nice to hear the positive comments. Sadly, what they have learned about the US through the news media does not put us in a favorable light.

      @Antek Policmajster I wouldn't speak of politics with an American, if it's not my friend. I've known people for which it was a sensible debate, and when I arrive with my French view, it can be a very hot topic. Once, I've spoken of Socialism, because I didn't know that in the US it was a synonym of Communism, and they were so shocked. For me, it was just a conversation, but for some people I've known the debate Democrat/republican, it's like they're playing their life. I know it's not everyone, but when you have a lot of cultural difference, you have to be cautious I think.

I have lived more than 4 years out of France, and French is seen as very political people, always arguing, striking, voting averagely more than many countries (Maybe because of the price of the blood, french people paid to obtain and maintain its freedom, always averagely "bloodier" than in most countries... Can a native french speaker tell me, the lady at 6:33 was very clear and easy to understand. Does she have a distinguished accent to you or is she simply speaking with a parisian accent but just very clear and pronounced?

    • @ParisianBookworm87
      @ParisianBookworm87 3 роки тому +3

      Yes! I think that the interesting thing about her speech is that she speaks a very standard or “textbook” French where she doesn’t use just “pas” for the negative phrases but “ne...pas”, which is very formal and also refreshing to hear since the majority of Francophone speakers, or French speakers, are very relaxed at times with their grammar and omit the ‘“ne” in a very familiar manner. Remember, no two French speakers have the exact same accent 😊.

    • @ypleuh1068

      In my opinion, "parisian accent" is not really a thing (there was a specific parisian accent before, the "titi" accent, but it has almost disappeared). As said above, she is speaking a standard and a bit formal French. I feel like she is speaking how a teacher would

      Thanks everyone! As an anglophone learning French for 4 years now the biggest struggle I have is understanding "normal" fast spoken French. I would say she is talking about a somewhat complex topic yet I could understand almost all of it and that was very motivating. Yet when I listen to this sentence at 2:41 spoken by the guy on the left, I understood nothing of that sentence without the subtitles, and this is very demotivating as I've studied for a long time. Also before when he says "c'est vrai que" and "je suis deja allé à New York."

    a) Est-il vrai que beaucoup de Français n'aiment pas que les étrangers les parlent en anglais? Par exemple: je parle espagnol et si je veux parler à quelqu'un, je peux d'abord dire: "Bonjour" ou quelques phrases de base pour une conversation, puis je parle ma langue maternelle. Les Français s'en soucieraient-ils?
    b) Avez-vous un mot familier aux Américains? Par exemple: dans toute l'Amérique latine, nous les appelons "gringos", mais au Mexique, nous les appelons également "Gabachos".
    Salutations du Mexique.

    • @ParisianBookworm87
      @ParisianBookworm87 3 роки тому +1

      Si vous me permettriez de vous répondre (à mon avis), il faut que nous nous rappelions que chaque culture a ses propres coutumes et codes sociales concernant son peuple et l’interaction sociale dans son environnement, donc on devrait toujours saluer l’autre par un « Bonjour » ou « Bonsoir », etc. Cela signifie que l’autre partie possède un certain niveau de respect et reconnaissance envers l’autre partie. Je suis sûre qu’au Mexique on a aussi des types de codes sociales de la politesse qui y existent.
      C’est aussi très important de pouvoir dire quelques petits mots et phrases basiques et faciles en français (ou dans une autre langue) quand on n’est pas dans son propre pays et pendant que l’on voyage.

    • @oncpaskicaipuyvoila6492
      @oncpaskicaipuyvoila6492 3 роки тому +1

      La réponse sur les étrangers et particulière et assez paradoxal, je ne dirais pas que nous n'aimons pas les immigrés mais il y a évidemment comme dans tous pays une minorité qui refuse ces immigrés . Cela se comprend par une peur: celle du chômage ou du terrorisme ces dernières années. Mais étrangement la plupart des français on des origines étrangères. C'est mon cas et pour beaucoup de gens dans le sud de la France par exemple, ou une bonne partie de la population à un parent espagnol/portugais/italien ou d'origine.
      Enfin on a pas de "gringos" mais juste un version plus courtes des américains juste "Ricains" qui n'est pas forcément une insulte mais n'est pas très mélioratif.

      Cependant, même si certains le parlent, tu risques de parler à des français qui ne comprennent pas l’espagnol
