so glad you got to this -- Howard Jones had a way of writing really deep lyrics in very catchy tunes. he's got tons of very thoughtful, soft bangers. bowing to you, man. peace
Actually not no. "I love you more than life itself." If you are outwit the wife and someone pulls a gun on you a fires, if you are willing to take bullet to save her, you love her more than life itself. You can love yourself yet still sacrifice yourself.
Jamel, you'll love his "Like To Get To Know You Well", "No One Is To Blame" and "Things Can Only Get Better". He's one of the defining figures in 80s synth-pop. A singer/songwriter who had hit singles in Europe and the US.
1980s high school; during lunch some kid played HoJo's "Things Can Only Get Better" on his boom box while dancing on a table. Not sure if he was trying to express himself, imitate a movie, or impress someone else, or all three, but it made a scene.
Please react to these Howard Jones songs: Things Can Only Get Better, No One To Blame (Single Version), Everlasting Love, New Song, Like To Get To Know You Well, Life In One Day, and Hide & Seek.
You know, HoJo was kind of pushing the “Be A Good Human” thing in the 80s! I always loved him from the first single. His songs are all so positive and uplifting!
Came to the comments to say the same- HoJo was known for his optimism and positivity. I think of my first favorite from him, New Song. The lyrics were powerful and meaningful. “I don't wanna be hip and cool I don't wanna play by the rules Not under the thumb of the cynical few Or laden down by the doom crew Don't crack up Bend your brain See both sides Throw off your mental chains.”
This was always my favorite song of his. Not easy to sing, either! And Jamel, you're right--the title a great question, with over 7 billion answers. And all of those answers are right ;)
The viewer who requested this is my big brother, Myron. Trust me he is a walking music encyclopedia. Growing up in a house with him open me up to a great appreciation for music-all kinds. He makes the best DJ at any get together. ❤️
Howard Jones always put out questions in his songs, he was quite a spiritual kind of person. He challenged people to think, along with putting out some strong 80 synth sounds !
I love the 80s, that was the time I grew up in and I will carry that music in my heart until I die. And Howard Jones has a special place in my heart, I think he's one of those artist who was always underappreciated (just like Talk Talk, OMD or Tears For Fears amongst others), because most people in the 80s just saw him as a pop musician and not as the great artist and performer that he is. He is actually not only a great songwriter, but also a very good piano and keyboard player and his voice is also better than many pop voices from the 80s. I saw him live in 2000 in a small club in Frankfurt/Germany and it just blew me away. That tour was called "The Synthesizer Tour" and he was on stage all by himself, the whole place was stuffed with keyboards and synthesizers with huge sequencer towers behind him. Howard had a headset microphone so that he could move on stage to any place where he needed to go and while he was singing he ran up and down like a dervish pushing buttons, turning knobs and playing the keys. That was something else, man. And just some years ago, after David Bowie had passed away, Howard did a performance somewhere (I found that on youtube) in which he nailed Bowie's final single 'Lazarus' just playing piano and singing, I got goosebumps from that one. So PLEASE look more into his work, he's great. There are already many suggested songs to check out in other comments, but a song that will definitely leave a lasting impression on you will be "Hide & Seek", I would appreciate it deeply if you react to that, thank you.
Oh I am so glad you found Howard Jones - I’ve been requesting him for awhile. His music is all about your mantra to just be a good human. Life in One Day and Things Will Only Get Better are right up your alley.
I saw Howard "live" twice back in the 80's and then again a couple of years ago - took my son with me, he's autistic, it was his first "live" show and he just loved it. Check out a few other Howard Jones songs, New Song, All I Want, The Prisoner, Lift Me Up etc etc. All good. Love your reactions, Jamal.
Howard has a really good sound about his music! It's that 80's synth work! And yes Jamel the videos back then were like mini stories being brought to life!
This brought back memories I did voluntary work as a Girl Guide for the homeless where I meet this man called Jim this was his favorite song . I visited him frequently for many years til one day he passed . We played this at his funeral , just a small gathering I never heard this song again until now .I still do voluntary work to this day .Thanks for the cherished memories
He is fantastic. I’ve always loved him. “Things Can Only Get Better” is my favorite. The 1986 version of “No One is to Blame” features Phil Collins’ drumming and producing. “Like to Get to Know You Well” (1984) is totally fun. Plus, the man had some pretty epic 80s hair. 💜💜💜💜💜
One of my favorite artists ever! New Song, Pearl In The Shell, Hide and Seek, Things Can Only Get Better, No One Is To Blame (Remake and original), Like To Get To Know You Well, You Know I Love You….Don’t You, All I Want, The Prisoner, Everlasting Love, Lift Me Up, Transform, Beating Mr. Neg are great songs from Howard Jones!
We saw him in Seattle about 6 years ago. He's also a super nice guy as well. It was at the end of his tour and he started losing his voice, so everyone just started singing. We got to meet him afterwards and get pictures. So much love!!
Saw him about 6 years ago in LA. His laptop running his whole synth system crashed during the middle of a song, and without missing a beat he sang the rest of the song acapella. Fantastic artist!
This sounds like the extended dance mix, which you'd hear in the clubs at the time. One of my favorites is Soft Cell's "Tainted Love", that turns into "Where Did Our Love Go?"
The bassline in this track is sublime! Howard Jones is such an underrated singer/songwriter - he deserves faaaaar more recognition than he gets! Please Jamel, do more Howard Jones reacts!
Love some Howard Jones. For a total 80's synth masterpiece you can find on youtube Howard Jones, Thomas Dolby, Herbie Hancock, and Stevie Wonder performing live together As for the song, that is the thing about love. How you love someone and show that love may be different that they show it back.
Man, that takes me back to my 20s. I bought this single and played it a lot, but haven't listened to it for a while. Thanks for bringing back good memories.
1983 I was living in Europe and soaking up all these great songs. Howard Jones was one of the last concerts I saw before COVID. ❤ My husband went along for the ride and realized he actually knew and liked a lot of HoJo's music.
There’s a life lesson in this one that took me way too long to learn-“Maybe love is letting people be just what they want to be.” What a treat this was, I’d never heard the extended version! Howard Jones never disappoints. I could list a million songs here for you to check out but I’ll try to stick to a few. “Things Can Only Get Better” is a great one, and “Life In One Day.” Like this song, both of those have good messages. The entire One to One album is fantastic too!
Howard Jones was huge in the 80’s. Synth maestro and excellent songwriter. You absolutely must hear “Things Can Only Get Better” and “No One Is To Blame.”
Hey Jamel. Yesterday I was the DJ at my work breakup / Christmas party. I work for a charity in Adelaide, South Australia. As most of my co-workers are over 50 I played a selection of 70s, 80s and a few 90s songs. We had CCR, Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, KC and the Sunshine Band, Linda Ronstadt, Donna Summer, Santana, The Doors and many more. Everyone had a great time and I ended my nearly five hour set with the words "Good night, happy holidays and thank you all for helping me keep great music alive."
Lyrics: I love you whether or not you love me I love you even if you think that I don't Sometimes I find you doubt my love for you But I don't mind Why should I mind Why should I mind What is love anyway Does anybody love anybody anyway What is love anyway Does anybody love anybody anyway Can anybody love anyone so much that they will never fear Never worry never be sad The answer is they cannot love this much nobody can This is why I don't mind you doubting What is love anyway Does anybody love anybody anyway What is love anyway Does anybody love anybody anyway And maybe love is letting people be just what they want to be The door always must be left unlocked To love when circumstance may lead someone away from you And not to spend the time just doubting What is love anyway Does anybody love anybody anyway What is love anyway Does anybody love anybody anyway What is love anyway Does anybody love anybody anyway What is love anyway Does anybody love anybody anyway What is love anyway Does anybody love anybody anyway What is love anyway Does anybody love anybody anyway What is love anyway Does anybody love anybody anyway What is love anyway Does anybody love anybody anyway What is love anyway Does anybody love anybody anyway What is love anyway Does anybody love anybody anyway What is love anyway Does anybody love anybody anyway
Thank you for your reaction to Howard Jones song What is Love? I grew up in the 80's and I am a huge fan of Howard Jones. (No one is to blame, Life in one day, you know I love you, don't you? are some of his songs I love to listen too among many other favorites). I went to a concert of his and I actually got to meet him in person. I have a photo where I am standing next to him and he is just truly remarkable. My family knows how much I love this man's music so I had to have proof in meeting him. That was a great birthday present so I will never forget that day. Have a great week and take care. 🙂
Loved this man in the 80's! Give "Conditioning" a listen. If you like the synth sound you might like Scritti Politti "Perfect Way" or Art of Noise "Beat Box (Diversion One)"
Hey Jamel! So glad you react to Howard Jones, man. He’s on my constant playlist since 2020 with other similar artists like Thompson Twins, etc etc. Keep it up Jamel!
Love Howard Jones! Have seen him in concert in the 1980s, 1990s and the 2010s. You might also like his hits "Things Can Only Get Better," "No One Is to Blame," "Everlasting Love" and "Like to Get to Know You Well."
Have you ever reacted to The Babys? Their songs Head First and Isn't It Time are a good start. By the way, your love, kindness and appreciation of great music shines through your camera. 💜🎵🎶
One of the songs that freaked me out in Dec 1983 I was a young man from Barbados on vacation in London, hoping to see snow. It snowed the day after I left. I did experience some of the greatest songs I ever heard and this was one of my favorites. Tina Turner's version of Let's stay together, the song that relaunched her career, was a hit then. I blasted these songs and others like Relax, Frankie goes to Hollywood and Depeche Mode in my fiat 128 when I returned to Barbados
I saw one of his concerts in the 80's and it was like an elaborate play! So awesome! My bf even had his hairstyle, we were so into him lol Great choice, great reaction as always!
I always liked this song back in the day. And your comment about the extended version being "like a treat for the people who just didn't want the beat to end" is spot on. Yes indeed....
There are a bunch of '80's band that should be forgotten, Howard Jones is not one of them, beautifully crafted songs. His Greatest Hits are always in my playlist rotation.
Great pick, Howard had a nice string of hits back then. I think the “extended versions” of new wave hits in the 80s were for the benefit of clubs playing playing dance music, but I typically enjoy them better. You don’t really miss a whole lot from the radio edits, but the extended versions just give you more to enjoy.
Brings back some fantastic memories. I was 16 years old and I love that this track is in line with when it came out at the end of 1983 into 1984. You are simply the best and forgive me for saying, I really miss your music reactions xx
I’ve seen Hojo twice. Always a good vibe. He writes thought provoking songs with catchy hooks and tasty synths. I think he’s in your wheelhouse, Jamel.
As an added bonus, someone down thread mentions HoJo's "Like to Get to Know You Well". It was used in a classic 80s movie to great effect...."BETTER OFF DEAD", which is well worth a watch. It also has a killer soundtrack that is full of 80s goodness.
"Things Can Only Get Better", "Everlasting Love" and the Phil Collins produced "No One Is To Blame" are also true gems by Jones! Ultravox is another band that's totally worth listening, watching and reacting to
OMG....I was listening to Howard Jones back in the 80s and What Is Love? was one of favorites. FYI...that song was written about his wife when they were dating (they are still married over 40+ years later with three children).
Great reaction good sir! Howard's a bona-fide 80's constant! I will echo what others have suggested: New Song; Everlasting Love; Things Can Only Get Better, No One Is To Blame; Life In One Day; Like To Get To Know You Well; Pearl In The Shell. I will add on: Hide & Seek (long version); The Human Touch; & The One You Love (from his 2019 album - yes, he's still going strong!!) One thing you will see/hear from Howard, his messages are always positive & uplifting! What we need right now!
Worth listening to by Howard - "Hide and Seek" which he sang at Live Aid It begins "There was a time when there was nothing at all Nothing at all, just a distant hum There was a being and he lived on his own He had no one to talk to, and nothing to do… "

You missed "Everlasting Love".
1980s high school; during lunch some kid played HoJo's "Things Can Only Get Better" on his boom box while dancing on a table. Not sure if he was trying to express himself, imitate a movie, or impress someone else, or all three, but it made a scene.
He also had a good song, called Equality.
Phil Collins plays on some of his songs!
HoJo! He was huge in the late 80’s!
"New Song"
"Everlasting Love"
"No One Is To Blame"
"Things Can Only Get Better"
I cannot second "new song" hard enough
Don't forget "Pearl In a Shell"!
And The Prisoner
Hide and seek is another brilliant song by Howard Jones .
To many top tunes of his to difficult to choice
Just do them all 😃
Please react to these Howard Jones songs: Things Can Only Get Better, No One To Blame (Single Version), Everlasting Love, New Song, Like To Get To Know You Well, Life In One Day, and Hide & Seek.
These are all fantastic songs!
^^^THIS^^^
I love all of those songs! I even made a Howard Jones Pandora station.
All of this!! Please Jamel, we need more Howard Jones reacts!
Yes but look mama and pearl in the shell as well
Howard Jones is a severely underrated 80's synth artist. Give "Equality" a listen, you won't regret it.
Just listened to Equality the other day, maybe his best song! (that's saying a lot!)
Equality the keyboards in that song is awesome, yeah there is something about that song its phenominal
Oh, yay! I'm glad you're finally getting to Howard Jones. Or "Ho-Jo" as I like to call him. Try "No One Is to Blame" next.
Agree. "No One is to Blame" is one of the saddest songs I've ever heard.
@@GoddessSixx That whole album was a masterpiece. Some other sad songs on it were Elegy, Assault and Battery, and Hunger for the Flesh.
You know, HoJo was kind of pushing the “Be A Good Human” thing in the 80s! I always loved him from the first single. His songs are all so positive and uplifting!

One of the best songs of the 80's.
Howard Jones, great song writer for his time. Great sound. I believe very underrated.
This was always my favorite song of his. Not easy to sing, either!
And Jamel, you're right--the title a great question, with over 7 billion answers. And all of those answers are right ;)

I was MTV crazy...I remember those days. Even the commercials
He must be part of my soul family, we go from classical to rap to jazz metal Motown and back. Hard not to be friends with a music freak, right?
Howard Jones always put out questions in his songs, he was quite a spiritual kind of person. He challenged people to think, along with putting out some strong 80 synth sounds !
Howard Jones is often a forgotten 80s artist, but people know his songs. They don’t realize how many hits he has.
I totally agree...but I believe THE MOST forgotten artist of the 80's is Nik Kershaw "Wouldn't it Be Good."
Check out “No One is to Blame” by Howard Jones next. Drums and backup singing provided by Phil Collins.
I love the 80s, that was the time I grew up in and I will carry that music in my heart until I die. Noone is to Blame is another GR8 one of his ❤
Yeah! Been telling Mel he should react to some Howard Jones for a long time. Good stuff.
I've always been in love with the lyrics to Noone is to Blame, Howard was always a staple to the 80's soundtrack of my life ❤
"And maybe love is letting people be just what they want to be" seems like a pretty good definition to me, Mr. Jones
Lyrically, this song is pretty deep.
Oh I am so glad you found Howard Jones - I’ve been requesting him for awhile. His music is all about your mantra to just be a good human. Life in One Day and Things Will Only Get Better are right up your alley.
Great choice! The 80s ruled!
Try 'Through The Barricades' by Spandau Ballet.
Beautiful song with a poignant message. 👍
Lift Me Up is BRILLIANT. I play keys (and drums), so that one had me at the intro! 🙌🙌🙌
Howard has a really good sound about his music! It's that 80's synth work! And yes Jamel the videos back then were like mini stories being brought to life!
This brought back memories I did voluntary work as a Girl Guide for the homeless where I meet this man called Jim this was his favorite song . Things Can Only Get Better and No One is to Blame are also fabulous!
Thank God for the 80's !!!
Howard is awesome
Howard Jones Is always a treat. He Made deep and beautifull songs.
Definitely Things Can Only Get Better Is a most.

No ONE IS TO BLAME 💞 HOWARD JONES
From what I understand, HoJo played every instrument and even directed the video along with backing vocals.
This might be my favorite Howard Jones song.
This sounds like the extended dance mix, which you'd hear in the clubs at the time. One of my favorites is Soft Cell's "Tainted Love", that turns into "Where Did Our Love Go?"
HJ was really great live. He was a master of the synthesizer. You can definitely feel the 80's vibe. lol
God help me I miss the 80’s bad! Being a teen back then was magical!
You just made me feel ancient ! 3 years old in 83.... - I'd just started work at 18 !!!
To follow this superb song,I feel that No One Is To Blame would be perfect.
The bassline in this track is sublime! Howard Jones is such an underrated singer/songwriter - he deserves faaaaar more recognition than he gets! Please Jamel, do more Howard Jones reacts!
Love some Howard Jones. For a total 80's synth masterpiece you can find on youtube Howard Jones, Thomas Dolby, Herbie Hancock, and Stevie Wonder performing live together
As for the song, that is the thing about love. How you love someone and show that love may be different that they show it back.
Thanks for reminding me about Thomas Dolby! She Blinded Me with Science (off the top of my head!)
@@annieholbis2430 the flat earth album by Thomas Dolby is sublime. He also produced a great Prefab Sprout album!
Man, that takes me back to my 20s. I bought this single and played it a lot, but haven't listened to it for a while. Thanks for bringing back good memories.
1983 I was living in Europe and soaking up all these great songs.
Howard Jones was one of the last concerts I saw before COVID. ❤

Thus is a club mix. You know that, Jamel. It gives you a longer chance to groove on the dance floor. The club scene was huge in the 80's.
NO ONE IS TO BLAME
THINGS CAN ONLY GET BETTER
GREAT SONGS BY HOWARD JONES!!! THANKS JAMEL!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS BROTHER!!!!
Yes Howard Jones is a fav 🤎🤎✌🏾✌🏾
Loved "Hide and" Seek" by Howard.
Haunting!
Hey Jamel. Yesterday I was the DJ at my work breakup / Christmas party. I work for a charity in Adelaide, South Australia. Lyrics:
I love you whether or not you love me
I love you even if you think that I don't
Sometimes I find you doubt my love for you
But I don't mind
Why should I mind
Why should I mind
What is love anyway
Does anybody love anybody anyway
What is love anyway
Does anybody love anybody anyway
Can anybody love anyone so much that they will never fear
Never worry never be sad
The answer is they cannot love this much nobody can
This is why I don't mind you doubting
What is love anyway
Does anybody love anybody anyway
What is love anyway
Does anybody love anybody anyway
And maybe love is letting people be just what they want to be
The door always must be left unlocked
To love when circumstance may lead someone away from you
And not to spend the time just doubting
What is love anyway
Does anybody love anybody anyway
What is love anyway
Does anybody love anybody anyway
What is love anyway
Does anybody love anybody anyway
What is love anyway
Does anybody love anybody anyway
What is love anyway
Does anybody love anybody anyway
What is love anyway
Does anybody love anybody anyway
What is love anyway
Does anybody love anybody anyway

Howard Jones, my Big Hair, Spiked Heels and working at the Mall - Life right out of high school. 🤣

Songs like this just take you back to the a time when the world was simple place. God I miss the 80's.
Great 80s synth! “The Prisoner” is a good one, too.
Awesome!!!

They sure knew how to make , and record songs in the studio then ,, absolute master piece... Trully one of the great 80´s Songs
Just found your channel.. Loved Howard back in 83 and to this day. "Just be a good human" just what is needed now in the world. Excellent video.
He has some of the really great songs of the eighties. Very thought provoking lyrics.
Jamal! Love ya brother! Howard Jones has been my favorite since Human's Lib 84'!
Such an underrated songwriter! Love Howard! We need more Howard Jones reacts from Jamel!
Howard is still performing to this day!
As an added bonus, someone down thread mentions HoJo's "Like to Get to Know You Well".
It was used in a classic 80s movie to great effect...."BETTER OFF DEAD", which is well worth a watch. It also has a killer soundtrack that is full of 80s goodness.
One of my favorite '80s teen comedies.
One of my favorite 80s songs, period
"Things Can Only Get Better", "Everlasting Love" and the Phil Collins produced "No One Is To Blame" are also true gems by Jones! Ultravox is another band that's totally worth listening, watching and reacting to
The 80's had some of the best music, glad it was my era.
OMG....I was listening to Howard Jones back in the 80s and What Is Love? was one of favorites. FYI...that song was written about his wife when they were dating (they are still married over 40+ years later with three children).
This guy was money…many hits. Talented and cool…
Another you might like to give a listen to is Nik Kershaw, cut from the same cloth. Subtle difference, Nik led with guitar Howard with piano.
"Wouldn't It Be Good" is my jam!
Hojo is an electronic music genius. I fell in love with his music in the 80s for its uplifting, spiritual lyrics, great beats and melodies.
I loved & still love Howard Jones, you should listen to "things can only get better" & "Live in one day" these are my favourites by him
Howard Jones quality 80’s. Synth specialist. Massive 80’s tune to check out The Communards - Don’t leave me this way. Gets you moving!
Chills every time with that bass line at 5:23
One of the greatest pop-basslines ever composed!
One of my all time favorite songs. Thanks for reacting.
No matter how old I get, this song will always pick me up and remind me of driving down PCH in SoCal. "Before the dark times..."
Great reaction good sir! Howard's a bona-fide 80's constant!
I will echo what others have suggested:
New Song; Everlasting Love; Things Can Only Get Better, No One Is To Blame; Life In One Day; Like To Get To Know You Well; Pearl In The Shell.
I will add on: Hide & Seek (long version); The Human Touch; & The One You Love (from his 2019 album - yes, he's still going strong!!)
One thing you will see/hear from Howard, his messages are always positive & uplifting! What we need right now!
Seriously good tune especially this extended version its on fire
Simply stunning
Love HOJO!
I love it when you discover an artist that you’ve never heard before. Great reaction to a great song. Part of my childhood. X
Worth listening to by Howard - "Hide and Seek" which he sang at Live Aid It begins "There was a time when there was nothing at all Nothing at all, just a distant hum
There was a being and he lived on his own He had no one to talk to, and nothing to do… "
1983..I was 15 - great music.
