High Power Coil Jet Alcohol Stove without JB-Weld

- This is high power version of Coil Jet type alcohol stove without JB-Weld. I tried to make powerful version than previous single leg version.
As I described before, Coil Jet type that using JB-Weld for pipe fixing and sealing has fatal problem. The problem is the pipe becomes over than 300 degree C of JB-Weld's heat‐resistance spec. This video shows one of solution that don't use JB-Weld.

前回公開したように、JB-Weld(オートウェルド)をパイプの固定と密閉に使ったコイルジェット型アルコールストーブは、耐熱限界を超えるという致命的な問題があります。前作は1本足のため火力がイマイチだったので、今回は2本足にして結構な火力を得ることができました、必要な工具もこっちの方が少ないので、作業は面倒でもトライしやすいかもしませんね。
個人で楽しむ分にはどんどん真似して遊んでください。でも売るのは無しです。
I still have a similar burner like this with following minor differences:
1- coil pipe ends, one extremity, near tank top. The other, longer, near bottom of tank. NO WICK!
2- to ignite: we turned tank upside down. 1 or 2 drops of fuel came out from small hole, deposited on top of tank. Then set fire to this fuel.
Pressure created by vapours in coil, forced fuel to come up along longer "leg" of coil, to burning hole, closing the cycle.
To get hotter flame, burning coil was sorrounded by a perfurated thin tube that acted as ventilator.
Got light blue hot flame. Had a "safety vale/fuel intake" similar to this. Worked perfectly!

So neat! and pretty efficient - like 11ml of alcohol for 400ml of water. I guess this comes with higher pressure flame, so it mixes well with air. Ever had one of these cuties blow up due to overheating?

i would add a "preheater"-wick under the coil (like a normal oil lamp) wich heats the coil.
The reason is, so there is no need for a special lighter. It would start with a normal lighter/matchstick
Could you try to burn used cooking oil instead of alcohol?
is this denatured alcohol? or isopropyl? i can only get a small yellow flame from mine

Is there any problem with these pressurized stoves if making a big one that can take like half a liter of fuel? How is it possible that they don't need any air intake port, doesn't it try to create a vacuum inside the container?
No , the gas pressure builds up inside as the coil heats up it makes pressure which then vaporizes and makes pressure.

Other than the no jb weld I’m not sure what the difference is between your build and every other coil build or why it burns so hot. Is it because of the size of the hole drilled? What size is it?
That's an angry, bad ass little hiss banger right there (and I like it a lot).
I think if you run the copper tube all the way to the bottom, leaving about 5mm for the wick to stick out, the thermal conductivity of the copper tubing would vaporize the alcohol faster and thus create a higher power flame.

I have made two of these and I keep getting black buildup on the cooper coil that gives lots of black smoke and eventually extinguish the flame.
Does anyone know what is wrong?
I tried two different types of cooper coil from two different companies and 2 types of 99% isopropyl alcohol.

What size copper coil did you use and what size tap and die/thread
10mm copper and i packed it with sodium bicarbonate but anything like sand, any cheap powder. One guy used iron filings, ive seen sugar used! This stops the tube kinking whilst you wrap it round an object.
I used a 28mm bit of old pipe but i would like to have done it a bit bigger as i have a bigger can now!
The hole i used was a 2mm drill bit but i eouls suggest using so.ething to mark the hole position, make an indent with a good screw tip and a hammer tap to stop drill bit slipping and when you are nearly through to stop and finish with another screw tip and hammer tap to puncture it so its more like 1mm.
I used a bit of copper wire to push in a wick cut from an old flannel and i left the copper wire in there to act as a heat element and it worked really well!!

How could one make the slots in the copper tube? What tools and in what direction? Thanks for answering!!
@@francotappa5882 the slots or slot would be made in direction similar to cross section of the tube like you were going to cut it and not length wise and you can use a thin hand saw blade of dremel cutting wheel ,this is just a suggestive idea as i seen this used for propane burners ,the slots help create a venturi effect blue flame , if you ever seen the show moonshiners they made similar burners using slots instead of drilled holes which were making yellow flames instead of blue jet flames that they got after making slots instead

I just tried with 1/4-20 size and it was too coarse.... ended up twisting the tubing. If you figure out what size please post it!!!

The pipe dia. is 6mm and 1mm thickness. Yes single 0.8-0.9mm dia. jet hole at the bottom of loop. Both top and bottom piece uses bottle coffee cans which selling in Japan. I'm not sure the cans are sold in your country. Thanks in your interest.
That copper tube is very difficult to thread.
From what I've now read on the internets, people who work with copper (plumbers, etc) do not put threads on copper. They solder on a brass fitting that has threads.
I tried tapping my pipe and it's very difficult. The pipe twists around it's own axis, the tapping die gets stuck after each little bit of turn, the threaded part of the pipe becomes very brittle because it gets so thin.
Maybe it works a little bit better if the pipe has not been annealed, but what I can get from the hardware shop seems to always be pre-annealed.
Maybe it would be possible to drill/grind away the threads from an aluminium rivet nut after installing it and solder the copper pipe directly to it. There are also brass rivet nuts. This would allow building the stove without cutting the container in half first (if using for example a camping gas container). Lead-free solder melts at around 220 celsius, JB weld and the various copper based gasket sealants can handle about 350 celsius.

Basically YES. This burning method is same as old BORDE-BURNER, Scout Stove or Tykit. But thermal management is very important for safety.
@@tetkoba Might be worth trying gasoline. While it is certainly dangerous I think the results of a full spill of ethanol and full spill of gasoline are the same. I think the full metal designs you have are brilliant for their safety. The mason jar ones made by others make me cringe at times.
I was thinking of making one with a flat box as it's tank. Something that might hold a litre. I want it as flat and thin as possible to allow it to wick up thicker fuels and make it very hard to knock over. I want to try and see how thinned down diesel will work seeing that some people use it in kerosene space heaters. Even biodiesel might be possible. I think a full metal version of something like this with a large tank and some sort of heat shield for safety will make a useful room heater. That blue flame looks like it burns very cleanly.

How did you thread the tubing without bumping into the opposite leg of the burner ?
Paul Burstrom : that’s not how he did it to many variables, any way I went a different route, I decided to seal the tubing to the lid by sweating it on with silver solder and used a tinning flux and used a small hand held butane torch to sweat the connections. That seemed to do the job , I will do a test run on it this weekend and see if it holds up. I made sure to sand the plating on the lid down to bare tin and buffed the tubing clean for a good seal on both pcs .
I just had to reply after reading the other answers. Copper is soft, start die by hand then use appropriate size socket on die. I'm sure you have already figured this out.
Mark Wheat : thanks for your input Mark, but as stated above I decided to solder it to the lid using tinning solder . I sanded the lid clean and the copper tubing applied tinning flux and tinning solder worked out great 👍

@@joepalermo3836 I guess as long as you are careful when cutting the thread and don't remove/replace the pipe too many times they should be okay. It is even possible to cut a thread into wood so copper should be fine. If you've never used a tap or die before I'd recommend looking it up. It might look simple enough but there are a few things to bear in mind to help cut a good clean thread.
Fenrir : I’ve cut many threads in my line of work on metal rods and steel tubing of all kinds but never on soft copper tubing lol I will definitely give it a shot again thanks !

I'm thinking there must be air leaks, otherwise it would create a vacuum inside the container.
@@kke well im guessing the vent holes in the copper tube do that as well but then again that is where the flames shoot out from and then it becomes a sealed unit ,not sure if air needs to go inside the tank for it to work or if the heat is enough to pressurize it and make it work ,but there is always air inside the tank where the fuel is and the heat from the copper creates the pressure to blow the fuel out but there is no venturi system here so idk how it creates those blue flames unless there is some way for air to get inside

Экспериментальным путем я пришёл к выводу, что диаметр отверстия 1,2 мм. Вначале я сверлил отверстие 0,8 мм. Не хватало паров спирта и пламя гасло. Затем просверлил отверстие диаметром 1 мм, пламя было неустойчивым и периодически гасло. Когда рассверлил отверстие до 1,2 мм пламя горит стабильно и очень долго. Диаметр трубки у меня 6 мм. Удачи Вам в изготовлении этой горелки.

@@サンスケ380 いいえ、タリーズがフラットボトムになる前は普通の缶で作ってましたよ。パイプの前にボルトを付けて、ボルトが垂直になるように缶底を変形させればOKですよ

普通に手作業でやってるだけで特別なことはしてませんよ。もしかして粉々に崩れていってしまうとか? それならパイプの肉厚の問題で、例えば外経6mm肉厚1mmのパイプにM6x1.0のダイスじゃ無理です。私は1.2mm厚を使ってます。

Can anyone answer me if 91% alcohol would work, I made one stove but it’s not working, trying to figure out what did I do wrong. I made with glass jar with metal lid. A little larger than the one on this video.
I have two possible reasons. Alcohol must be %100, and the second one is the container is too large
It works with 70% alcohol too. Did you heat/prime it enough?
Какого диаметра у Вас отверстие? Я пробовал вначале 0,8 мм. Пламя быстро гасло. Рассверлил это отверстие до 1 мм. Пламя было не стабильным. Когда рассверлил отверстие до диаметра 1,2 мм горелка работает в турбо режиме стабильно и долго. В качестве фитиля я использую асбестовый тонкий шнур в несколько сплетений.
