    CK: “You want my opinion, it’s an excavator, it digs dirt, it does things like that”
    Your eloquence in your review of this machine is unmatched, my friend LOL!

    The fact that they want an honest opinion and are willing to post the good with the bad when they give us the sneak peeks of your videos says a lot about Hyundai Construction Equipment.
    The only negatives you have about that machine are options that you could easily change were you to ever buy one of your own and not a fault of Hyundai’s design.
    Rubber tracks may have been useful in a couple jobs you did but 95% of your work is soft or wet ground where steel tracks and grousers work best.
    As for us the viewers, I’m sure we all appreciate your honest opinion and the fact you’re not willing to promote something just because someone asks you too or something that you don’t feel you have a valid use for.

    The dealership is key to whatever piece of equipment you buy. Yes they all have their own little operator friendly features but like Kleeman said " it's an excavator it digs dirt and does things like that." No matter what brand you choose to buy the dealership is a key factor. It really comes down to parts, service, and the quality of people working there. Any salesman can tell you what you want to hear to get your business but a good salesman will go above and beyond to keep your business. The fact that you didn't buy their brand and haven't spent a dime and they still gave you a demo machine and reached out to Kleeman speaks volumes. I enjoy listening to your opinion and comparisons of the machines and apparently it means a lot to those guys too. Thanks for the videos.

    That Hyundai 145 seems like a nice size unit for allot of different tasks . Easy to move and mobilize for smaller jobs and big enough to still take out trees & move some dirt . Rubber tracks make it a great machine when transitioning between pavement and dirt . What I like about the tracks is they have steel rail chain with the rubber pads bolted on . Looking Good !

    It looks like this was a win, win, win for everyone and I hope it can happen again. It seems to me is the biggest factor to consider might be the rubber tracks vs. the steel. There will always be times when you might have to settle for second best for a machine. There probably isn’t a machine out there that can do everything the best. Nice video.

  • @tbix1963

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts and opinions. Always nice to hear a truly impartial review on something. I’m not qualified to have anything more than a distant opinion but both look to be excellent machines and it seems to come down to dealer service which is a wild card everyone’s mileage may vary, and taste. In a perfect world it would likely be great to have one of each, but that’s not reality for most of us. You definitely showed that it is a quality and sound machine and anyone shopping for one should be able to use your reviews as a guide to determine which would be a better fit for their individual situation. You are a well balanced reviewer and I would expect more people would like to put their equipment in your hands to receive a fair and balanced review and help get their products into the hands of people looking for them. Great job on the series of videos, stay safe, wishing you and your family the best.

    Thanks for all of the reviews Mike, and what Kleeman said about the way the dealers treat you is so true! I've always been a Cat man because of their reliability but mostly for their dealer parts networking of same or next day parts. I'm definitely thumbing over looking at Hyundai just from your review videos and you and I have a lot of the same says of thinking. I'm not sure how the dealers here in Southeast Idaho are going to be but I'm definitely willing to hear them out. Ya I'd definitely have to have a different thumb, that one almost looks like a mechanical thumb converted to a hydraulic thumb. The only way to go on a thumb in my own opinion is a progressive link thumb. Thanks for the videos Mike!

    I hadn't paid attention before but the tracks on the Hyundai are much narrower than the Volvo. I'm sure thats a function of the rubber tracks but did you feel that it would change the stability ("float") of the machine to have wider tracks like the Volvo? Thanks for taking the time to make these videos, thanks to Hyundai and thanks to Reco!

    Great comparison video. I don't have any seat time in a Hyundai, but did have in a Volvo many years ago, and back then they were clunky and slow. Always hated running that machine for some reason. But like you stated, a relationship with a dealer is hands down the best selling point of a piece of equipment. Around here it is either JD or Cat. And neither of the dealers are any fun to work with, always seems like you are bothering them when you enter their building.

    I can't believe you haven't bought that Hyundai yet. That is one sweet machine. If there was a way to make quick change tracks on a excavator like changing a tire then the 120 would be perfect. it has been good to get opinions from regular users, for the first time i am renting a
    Hyundai mini ex because of these videos, being i rent a lot, i looked for one, but i have to say i am not renting from a dealer or a big rental company
    Hyundai just not available here for rent, i am renting from an owner, i have it for little over a week, and i have to say, i am very disappointed in this Hyundai, it only has 1155 hours on it, and i find it a struggle to operate, i stripped sod off to get top soil, i have a 3 foot high mixed wind row of chunks of sod and dirt, i place the bucket half the depth of the bucket and pull in on the stick boom, soon as it hits the soft pile it stop it just dont have any power, so digging in red clay is a real work out to get it to dig, i normally rent a cat 301 and doing the same thinf will lift it up on to one track ad not slow down, when i am paying $1250 fr 5 days plus float cost i want it to dig with power to spare, and move fast, this thing moves so slow ,,,, as this Hyundai 35z-9 is a 8200 Lb machine with 1155 hours on it, to heavy for my 7000 Lb trailer, the cat 301 is a 6700Lb machine and i can move that with my trailer, both units have a 24" wide bucket, i am doing videos on this unit to show the lack of power big time, i hope this makes seance, every time i type this out other text gets removed, i dont know why, i have had to re do it, fix it many times, only nice thing about this
    Hyundai is a simple turn of a valve and you have JD or excavator controls

    Great size machine! I wouldn’t be afraid of any machine if you have good dealer support. Surprisingly for me my Cat dealer Foley inc and my salesman Marty are the best. I’m smalltime and they treat me the same as the big guys. It’s all in the people and it sounds like you have found some good people at Hyundai. You are helping them by your videos I would never have looked twice at them if it weren’t for you. Thanks Mike 👍🏻

    my thought is, dealers are the key, i havent purchased an excavator but i did by a mid/small tractor(38 hp)
    the kubota dealer wanted me to buy a bx 23 or 25 and discouraged everything else, the JD dealer said they didnt have time to talk to me to go over machines.
    the kioti dealer was good and the machines were nice, the new hollland/massey dealer delivered the tractor i was interested in to my house for a week to use. the dealership has since sold but its still the same people at the shop. being able to use a machine in real use was the deciding factor. one of the techs lives the next town over and he found out i blew a steering hose he swung by and helped me change it no charge(he was off the clock)
    i wanted a yanmar but the only dealer was 2+ hour drive and i didnt want that. now they have a sop within eye sight of my house :(
    great video if i were to buy one those (volvo and hyundai) would be 2 i would look seriously at. maybe after i purchase my new property i want to do as much of the work as possible myself. i only have 40 or 50 hours on a mini but once i learned excavators are just real life video games it was easy peasy, cleared the cover of my septic tank in the middle of winter with 0 dirt in the tank
    channels like yours and lets dig serve a good purpose besides just entertainment

I was personally hoping you would choose the Hyundai when you were shopping around, but I understand why you went with Volvo. The Hyundai looks like a nice tool to have in the fleet. Good videos Mike, Having a good dealer relationships is the key to business for customers and dealers. Unfortunately the way big businesses have went in the last 25 years it makes it extremely hard to have that one on one relationship most of the time. (My opinion) Usually the bigger dealers push sales, parts,service personnel to the breaking point then the employee leave the dealership and also its really hard to find employees that honestly want to put effort into building that relationship with customers. My hats off to Hyundai and RECO equipment Tyler & Adam for trying to change that , there are still a few people out there take an interest and pride in there work. Not just there to collect a check

    Mike I have said before , a machine purchase is based on parts availability and dealer support.

    As always good luck.

    Hyundai and their sister company Kia for cars appear to have a very good customer appreciation here in Australia compared to many others so I'm not surprised they also tick that box with their construction equipment. They know how to foster satisfied repeat customers which is worth significant value when choosing what to buy.

    Hyundai is pronounced Hi un dee ! Back in the early 1980's I worked for a company that built Ion Implanters for Hyundai. It was a piece of junk but I didn't tell them that! Best Regards, Jay

    Some folks talk about how hard it is comparing apples to oranges...but, I think the harder task is to compare apples to apples.
    I like Granny Smiths for pies... however there is no way I’m gonna buy a bag of them for my lunch bag. For eating, my all time favorite is Winesaps... but, in pies they turn to mush. Now, that’s just me. I’m pretty sure there are Granny Smith eaters out there and Winesap bakers too. What is the same for all of us is... serving our needs or preferences. The availability locally makes the difference between having the apple you want when you want it or settling for something a bit less.
    As a 35 year quality manager I always thought about it like this:
    “QUALITY IS LIKE BUYING OATS. IF YOU WANT NICE FRESH OATS YOU MUST PAY A FAIR PRICE. HOWEVER, IF YOU CAN BE SATISFIED WITH OATS THAT HAVE BEEN THROUGH THE HORSE ALREADY, THEY CAN BE HAD FOR A LITTLE LESS.”
    I hate to settle for Service Quality that’s been through the horse!!!

    I like operating any excavator or equipment. When new tight an right sweet!
    Which machine will wear the best and longest before major component failure. Owner/operators like yourself usually do maintenance timely which helps. Larger outfits will sometimes extend schedules. Some are strict about it, seen both.
    Hired operators of different skill levels affect condition of machines.
    A floppy bucket is usually where costly repairs start. Day in day out with hired operators imho the Hyundai is vulnerable to fail sooner.

    I think some of the companies are learning that letting people like you demo a machine out in real world conditions is better for sales than making their own advertising. If Hyundai sells only one more machine because someone saw your video and heard what you really thought about it, that's just good marketing. Same for the dealer, if it brings in one sale or maybe gets a few people to rent a machine to try it out for themselves then letting you demo this machine was worth it. If you treat someone good they will tell 10 people, treat them poorly and they will tell 100 people.
    And it might work the other way for you as well, the people at the dealer will see how well you took care of the machine, your honest thoughts on the machine and might suggest your business to someone who needs some work done. Even if its only one job, its one more than you might have gotten.

    Never know Mike, the 304 may need replacing, a Hyundai mini would be a good fit in your company

    To me dealer support is very big to me. Dealer support will sell the machine wicker than the machine it's self for me.

    Given the similarities and differences between the two hoes, and disregarding dealer support and the fact that you already own one, but not the other, which machine is the best fit for ALL the work you do, and what portion of ALL that work would be made harder by owning one vs the other. And, what do you base that decision on: digging depth, transportation size, tail swing, rubber vs steel tracks, feel of the seat, or something else? (I think I know what you'll say, but I could be wrong.........)

    Does that mean you are going to put a blade on the Volvo?

  • @NZDIRT
    @NZDIRT 4 роки тому

    You really ought to get yourself a tilt hitch

    • @DirtPerfect
      @DirtPerfect  4 роки тому

      Why

    • @NZDIRT
      @NZDIRT 4 роки тому

      Dirt Perfect then you don’t have to reposition yourself or prop yourself up with your blade to cut level/slopes

    • @DirtPerfect
      @DirtPerfect  4 роки тому

      But I lose break out force have more weight on the end of the boom several more moving parts and cost is as much as my mini excavator move the machine and using the blade is cheep and affective and I would have to buy all new buckets if all I did was grading work would have one for sure but for most jobs I do don’t see a huge advantage to if for the cost and losses

    • @NZDIRT
      @NZDIRT 4 роки тому

      Dirt Perfect I don’t mean a rotating one, just a tilting one, In my opinion the breakout force isn’t enough to be missed nor is the weight noticeable, they’re like $11,900 USD and all your buckets will still fit
