I found the ETS practice tests really helpful too. I’m starting NYU’s online program soon and loved hearing all three of your perspectives in this video!
The GRE portion of this video... by far one of the funniest, candid, and honest commentaries thus far. Love yall for this information AND entertainment :)
TY for sharing ladies. I am doing everything online by myself and I have no one to talk to about this. And its nice to see people on the other side of this.
Currently waiting to hear on decisions right now and your GRE experience i feel lol especially about big plans to study and then opened the book a few times 😂
Thanks for the tips fellow Terrier Lion! Although my program at TC doesn’t require the GRE, I’m studying for it now to get the test out of the way before September. I’ll be applying to PhD programs and just don’t want to think about it.m while working on my masters.
What a cute video! I'm sending students to come see this because it hits a lot of key points. Thank you for sharing about our dynamic field of speech language pathology!
Hi! You all are so informative, helpful, and candid (not to mention honest, thanks so much for that!) I am a college junior who does not have a SLP background from undergrad and was not able to take the prerequisites as I went to an extremely small school and only realized last year I was interested in the field. I know you all were Speech majors, but do you have any recommendations for those without the background prior/on ASHA Ed is there a way to see if schools offer the prerequisites or not? Or are there other resources you would recommend for specifically that? Also, how much will not having a speech undergrad major impact admission? Thank you so much :)
Hi Rebecca! Thanks so much 💖! Not having a speech background really shouldn’t affect your admission because most grad schools understand that many schools don’t offer speech! Unfortunately, I don’t know of any resources for knowing which schools offer prereqs, but I would recommend calling and emailing schools/checking their websites. It might help to narrow it down to the schools you are interested in based on other criteria (location, test scores, concentrations/tracks/unique coursework, etc) first and then check if they offer prereqs from there! :)
Hi! I actually have no idea what the salary expectations are for NJ. It also really depends on what setting you’re interested in as well! I do know that statistics about salary are public information so you can search to see the different salaries for each setting!! :)
Do you have any tips for someone who may not have a high GPA and not a communication disorder bachelor's degree? Would taking speech prerequisites classes first and doing good in them help me be more competitive? Thanks!
Hi!! Yes, I definitely think taking speech prereq classes and getting good grades in them could show the admissions committee that you can excel in speech related classes. Other tips would just be studying extra hard for the gre, making your personal statement excellent and compelling, and also having letter of recs from people that can help cast you in a good light as a student :)
Hey! Loved that video. I'm also interested in becoming an SLP in an educational setting. How did you find grad schools that focused more on that? Or how do you know a school would be better for that than others? Hope that makes sense ! (:
Hey! I looked at the courses schools offered, if they had an educational track, if they offered an initial certification to work in a school system, etc! After doing that, that cancelled out schools with a heavy medical focus and led me to the schools I applied to!
@@brookeslookbook4628 thanks so much for replying! I'm at the University of Washington right now completing my undergrad degree. Columbia is my dream grad school! Congrats on getting in ❣
Hi! Pranali and I didn’t have interviews for the schools we applied to. Roxanne interviewed for one school, and she prepared by looking up potential interview questions and practicing that way!! :)
Hey! I’m about to graduate with my Bach in early childhood and thought about applying to Columbia’s grad school. Is there a way I could contact you directly to ask questions about your experience with applying?
Becky Luna Hi! Yes you absolutely can! (At least for most places). Your best bet would be to strengthen your application as much as possible (i.e. higher test scores, retaking classes with low grades, reconstructing your personal statement, etc.)
I think in order for credits to count for ASHA requirements you need to have gone to an accredited school. But most speech programs accept so many people that are “non-majors” who have no prerequisite courses at all, so you’re definitely able to apply to speech master’s programs for sure!! You would just need to talk to each school you apply to individually to see if any credits transfer over! Hope that helps! :)
Where did you guys all go and major in? I'm trying to decide where to go for undergrad and not sure which schools because they each have such different programs!
We all went to Boston University! Two of us majored in speech-language pathology (I also had a minor in Deaf Studies) and one of us majored in Spanish and Linguistics with a minor in speech-language pathology.
This is super useful for me, especially as a current BU undergrad! tysm!!

Can u do a video on your salary expectations to be a SLP? specifically in NJ maybe? Thank you!!!!

Could you please suggest me some most affordable universities for speech language pathology(MA) in usa for international students?
Hey! How was your interview experience? And do you remember any of the questions ask?
Hi! Pranali and I didn’t have interviews for the schools we applied to. Roxanne interviewed for one school, and she prepared by looking up potential interview questions and practicing that way!! :)

Hi!! Yes do you have IG? You could follow me and then I can give you my contact info if that works for you! :))
if you don't get into grad school .... can you reapply to the sam school the following year?
Becky Luna Hi! Yes you absolutely can! (At least for most places). Your best bet would be to strengthen your application as much as possible (i.e. higher test scores, retaking classes with low grades, reconstructing your personal statement, etc.)
Is it okay if the undergraduate degree in communication disorders is at an unaccredited school ?

Where's Part 2??
Grad school has taken so much of my time but I’m editing it and I hope to drop it very soon. And more videos too :)
