@@Dudlajlama I had to reply since you said "It's like coming back home" I could not agree more! I've never felt so comfortable or taken care of anywhere!
Thank you! We also miss ERC and are planning a return visit this Spring. Since ERC, we have visited EPM, Iberostar Grand and Secrets Akumal (I have posted UA-cam videos from each of those trips). But ERC is calling our names again and we can't wait to return.
Is the excellence club upgrade worth the price? What comes with that? What is the difference from the regular roof top room and the excellence roof top room?
Hi Ryan - We have not been to VIM so I can't compare ERC to VIM. We have been to 2 Excellence properties (ERC and EPM), 3 Secrets properties (Capri, Maroma and Akumal) and to the Iberostar Grand Parasio in the last 3 or 4 years. Of those resorts, the ones that we want to go back to for a second visit are ERC, Secrets Maroma and EPM in that order. I have uploaded videos similar to the ERC one that you just watched on EPM and Secrets Akumal (I hadn't started shooting videos of our vacations prior to these three). If you are interested in some of the other properties, search UA-cam for my name. The three properties that I mentioned above all hold fond memories for us for different reasons. All of these places have similarities - great customer service, good to great food (we enjoy a change up in the variety of restaurants that these different brands have - we don't want to two Secrets or two Excellence properties in a row - we enjoy the variety that each brand has available..). But what makes each vacation a little bit different for us each time are the folks that we meet at the different resorts. And that is kind of a crap shoot. ERC was a particularly lively, friendly experience for us. That is not to say that it will be the same for us the next that we go to ERC (I sure hope so). We like to try different places on our vacations, but I think we have found the ones that are worth repeating. In my opinion, ERC is at the top of the list. I hope you find the 'best' resort for you. Enjoy! Alan Perry
Alan... this was an excellent video!! Thank you so much for posting and allowing us a glimpse into your trip at the Excellence Rivera Cancun. My husband and I will be there 8/21/16 and you've provided some great insight into the place. Cheers to you and your wife!
Elena - Have an excellent vacation! We had such a great time at this Excellence property, that we are going to take another Mexican vacation this Fall - this time to Excellence Playa Mujeres. It will be interesting to compare the two. We can't wait!
Alan Perry So which resort did you like better EPM or ERC? My wife and I went to EPM on our honeymoon two years ago and loved it. We are hoping to take another trip soon and we loved EPM so much we are afraid to try a different Excellence resort.
Alan Perry Oh and by the way I saw you EPM video and loved the blurb about Michigan and Ohio State. My wife's an OSU fan and I'm a Michigan fan. Your videos are very personable and relatable. Thanks for posting!!
Thank you! We are planning a return visit to ERC in May - the 1st through the 8th. We can't wait to see what has changed. Maybe we will see you there!!! It will be 2 years since we were last there. Congrats on your upcoming wedding! I think you will not be disappointed in ERC as a honeymoon destination. We met others who were celebrating their honeymoon while we were there in 2016 - and they were very pleased with their experience... Cheers! The best to you!!!

I hope you have a great return visit. We loved ERC and also look forward to returning in the future. UA-cam is a great resource for getting fired up for vacation! Have fun!
There was some seaweed on the beach, but the resort staff removed it every morning. They used a tractor and there were a number of guys with wheel barrows and pitch forks who cleaned up whatever washed ashore overnight. There is no Dance Club per se, but I understand that they do have an evening of dancing in the theater as part of the regular entertainment (that is new and they didn't have that when we were there). Also, there is an outdoor bar that has live music every evening and there is an area for dancing there...
Hi Eddie - We didn't consider upgrading rooms. For us the spa view room was just fine. We choose to ask for an upper floor room to get a bit more privacy - the balconies were private and we could see the ocean over the top of the spa building. All rooms are the same design - so the cost for a better view was not appealing enough for us to pay the extra money. We did meet a couple that were staying in Excellence Club rooms and they said they did not take advantage of the extra amenities (Besides access to a more private pool, there is a special lounge that the Club guests can utilize for things like a special afternoon cocktail reception) enough to justify the additional cost in their minds. Other folks that I have read about online swear that the cost is worth it. I guess it depends on your point of view and on your budget. Have a great trip in July. We are considering a return to ERC in October or November...
I have been twice. I don't think k the excellence package is worth it but definitely get a swim up suit. It's so convenient if your in the pool and want food or a drink or need to go to the bathroom. Plus if there aren't any lounges you have your lawn!
No they don't have a shuttle that I am aware of. Taxi service is available and the local bus service from the main road is an option. ERC is south of the airport and the hotel zone / tourist area of Cancun is north of the airport. Further north from the hotel zone is the 'downtown' area of Cancun. Most of the nightlife is in the hotel zone. Another shopping area and where they have some nightlife (bars and restaurants, etc) can be found in Playa del Carmen which is south of ERC - and is worth checking out...
ERC is about mid way between the Hotel Zone in Cancun and the town of Playa del Carmen. (I Googled it - and the 5th Ave shopping district in Playa del Carmen is 37 KM or a 35 minute cab ride and the Hotel Zone in Cancun is 41 KM and a 40 minute cab ride). If you haven't been to the Cancun area before, I think you would get more out a trip to the Hotel Zone - lots more to see and do. But if you want to avoid the tourist over the top experience, I would do Playa del Carmen. I have been to Cancun so many times that I avoid the Hotel Zone - but I think everyone needs to check it out at least once for themselves...
My wife and I really enjoy the Excellence and the Secrets resorts in the Cancun area. We tried another resort a couple of years back (the Iberostar Grand) and we have convinced ourselves that ERC, EPM and Secrets Maroma Beach are our top three resorts. I put together UA-cam videos on EPM, Secrets Akumal and Iberostar Grand if you are interested in hearing about those places. (I had not started doing these videos when we were at Secrets Maroma). I hope you enjoy your upcoming vacation. I think you will find ERC to be a great resort!
We did not see a single mosquito during our trip. My wife did have a number of sand flea bites. We found them in the lounge chairs down on the beach. I think that if we had used a repellent, she wouldn't have gotten bitten. We are heading back to Mexico (EPM this time) next week and I have been reviewing FB posts and TA reviews and the report is that the mosquito issue is still not a problem. That is not to say that we wouldn't bring our repellent - we will. But I am hopeful that we won't have a problem.
Sandasia Lively I got eaten alive in Oct. by what I don't know. They didnt look like mosquito bites. I though maybe ants because the 1st time we were sat indoors at the Indian restaurant and my feet were eaten alive. I had over 40 bites on both feet and ankles. I will say on our first trip here 10 years ago before it was built up aroumd I didnt have any bites at all.
Our favourite resort, we love it there and will be back in the middle of January 2019.
Awesome! Have a great vacation at ERC in January! We will be back there in late April 2019... Can't Wait!
Alan Perry It will be our 14th visit in this resort:0). It is like coming back home.

Thanks - I appreciate it. We enjoyed our time at ERC and plan on returning - probably next Spring...
