      What if Mother wanted to separate the role of the Island's protector and the role of the security system (Smoke Monster) into two individuals. Before that, it was just one person doing both which was a kind of damnation because that person would be protecting but in doing so killing a LOT, and thereby losing their humanity. Maybe that's why Jacob recruited "damaged" people to the Island...he wanted to give them a chance to remake themselves and but also understand what the darkness that inhabits humanity is. Most of them would have had some direct familiarity with that darkness.

      @@victorpradha9946yes this is exactly right. Mother always wanted it to be mib because she knew only he had the strength to handle being the monster and Jacob was too innocent and fragile. But mib was too immature and exploration to be the protector, he just wanted to leave and use the light rather than protect it. Thats when she realized it was always supposed to be him but mib should take the bad part of bei g the protector, being the smoke monster.

    Here is how I interpret the core elements of the central story told in LOST:
    Mother is the Protector of the Island to whom the Black Smoke obeys originally (basically to eliminate those who are perceived as a dangerous threat to the Island). Things change when she is killed and when Jacob's brother is thrown into the cave. At this moment, the Black Smoke liberates itself from its initial function by absorbing Jacob's brother vital essence and by adopting his identity. From this precise moment, the Balance which existed on the Island is disrupted. The Protector of the Island (Jacob) cannot control the Black Smoke anymore; it's even worse than that: the Black Smoke becomes his enemy with opposite goals (it/he wants to kill Jacob and to leave the Island). This is why Jacob starts to bring new people to the Island: he wants them to find a way to eliminate the new Black Smoke which reinforces chaos on the Island.
    When Desmond removes the cork and the Light in the Heart of the Island goes out, the extraordinaries properties of the Island disappear. The Black Smoke becomes human (unknowingly to itself/himself, its particular form was always connected to the Light). Jack kills him and then restores the Light again. That's how the problem created by Jacob thousands of years ago is resolved. A new cycle begins with Hurley as the Protector of the Island. The Black Smoke reappears as an impersonal force where it originally belongs: in the Heart of the Island. Balance is reestablished. The Protector of the Island can summon the Black Smoke and use it, but knowing Hurley and his personality (his kindness and intrinsic non-violence) one can presume that he won't do that, as he will try to find more pacific ways to resolve conflict with the potential "threats" to the Island.

    • @JakubRosman
      @JakubRosman 4 роки тому +17

      Your explanation is canon and makes perfect sense, especially how the Black Smoke adopts the MIb’s identity and brings out the worst of him. MIB isn’t inherently evil, but the black smoke makes him that way. However, I haven’t seen any evidence that this all returns back to normal when Hurley takes over.

    • @jxsh03
      @jxsh03 4 роки тому +1

      I dont think the black smoke returns to the heart, I think that was the evil and part of it had escaped and was lurking down there, waiting for someone it could use. Then when Jack killed it, that evil was gone forever (unless someone tries to reach the light and take it again). Its like the light is everything good but the evil derives its power from temptation which drags people into trying to take the light for themselves, unknowingly releasing part of the evil it contains when doing so.

    • @mooyo8951
      @mooyo8951 4 роки тому +5

      @@jxsh03 i think the black smoke is part of the evil that was used by mother to protect the island. There are several references to this in the series. like the tunnels under dharma, and i dont remember who but characters were saying that the black smoke is a protection system as well. Also (this wasnt explicit) mother used the black smoke to kill the tribe to prevent jacob's brother from reaching the heart.
      i think there will always be evil, good and rebirth in the heart of the island as mother said.

    • @simwin
      @simwin 3 роки тому +20

      I've been thinking about this and reading everyone's opinions for a long time and I believe your comment is the closest and most accurate answer that we can possibly get.
      I like to believe that that the black smoke by itself is not evil or the evil that the island and it's guardians are supposed to stop from escaping. The real evil if we want to call it that is the the light from the source being extingushed causing the island and the rest of the world connected to it to be destroyed.
      Jacobs view of the black smoke is flawed when he sees it as evil because it wants or rather his brothers consciousness wants to leave the island and in order for it to do so, the island would be destroyed in the process.
      The original black smoke created by the island has the sole purpose of guarding the source and making sure the light is not extinguished.
      Presumably the current guardian of the island can summon the original black smoke for protection and to eliminate threats to the source if necessary.
      The default resting place of the neutral black smoke is in the cave where it protects the source / heart of the island and listens to the current guardian. When it is in this state, if someone went into the source, they would merge with the black smoke giving the black smoke their consciousness. No normal person can do this usually as only the guardian of the island can find the source, that is until Jacob drags his brother there.
      Now that the black smoke has the consciousness of the person that merged with it, it is free to do as that person wants. It can leave the cave and roam around the island but is still binded to the rules and powers of the island or guardian perhaps.
      In Mothers case it doesnt really matter if she went in the cave or not and if she was a smoke monster or not as her goals and the black smokes sole purpose were exactly the same - to protect the source and not let the light go out. If Mothers consciousness merged with the black smoke, she would still try to protect the source as the black smoke. If she didn't go into the source, she could just summon the black smoke when she feels she needs to eliminate a threat like the camp well. Wether she destroyed the camp as the black smoke herself or summoned it is irrelevant but it is most probable that she had merged with the black smoke given all the hints we were provided with.
      So long as the light in the source is there, the black smoke will also be there and can never truly be killed itself.
      When Jacob's brother stabs mother in the back with the ritual dagger method, he merely kills the consciousness of Mother that was merged with the black smoke, and the black smoke simply returns to the source in it's neutral state again ready to protect the source and listen to the guardian if needed.
      After Jacob's brother is thrown into the source, his consciousness merges with the black smoke. All Jacob's brother has ever wanted to do is leave the island which creates a contradiction between him and what the black smoke is meant to do which is to stay on the island protecting the source.
      Jacob's brother could of left the island at any point before merging with the smoke if his Mother had let him.
      After merging with the smoke, he becomes binded to the island like the smoke is. The only way for him to leave now is to extinguish the light in the source. This removes the black smoke from existance and unbinds him so that he may leave, although the whole island and the rest of the world begins to get destroyed until the cork is replaced.
      From this fact we can see that the black smoke itself is not inherently evil as it is a creation from the good light in the source whose purpose is merely to protect it. The light provides the power of the black smoke and when it is extinguished, the power of the sources protector is lost until the light is brought back. We see throughout the show that the black smoke is generally regarded as a security system.
      It makes sense to assume that if Jack and Kate did not kill the Man in Black when the cork was removed, the Man in Black would regain his black smoke powers if the cork was replaced.
      In the events of the show, the Man in Black or at least his consciousness is killed when he is shot and kicked off the cliff.
      The fate of the black smoke becomes ambiguous after this point. When the cork is replaced by Jack, does the Black Smoke get created again at the source or is it gone for good? Does Jack's consciousness get merged with the new black smoke whose purpose is also to protect the source? Does Jack get spit out and die before the new black smoke is able to merge with him and now Hurley is in control of the Black Smoke if he wants to use it?
      Some theories suggest that Jack did infact merge with the Black Smoke and protected the island for far longer than any of the other people were on the island for which is why he is the last person to be reunited with all of his friends in the church and is why he has the hardest time remembering his past life as it has been such a long time for him compared to everyone else.
      I'd like to believe that all of the magical powers including the black smoke comes from the source itself and the island chooses who it bestows gifts and powers upon, making them special. The creators of the show liked to think of the island as a character itself.
      Personally I think Jacob's brother was the most tragic character in the show.. His real mother was murdered, he spent his whole life trying to just leave the island and even was the only person to care about his brother enough to try and take him with him but his fake mother wouldn't let him, then Jacob in his rage permanently makes him chained to the island for 2000 years. It's sad to see that they talk to each other like brothers still but he has grown to hate Jacob as he wont let him leave now either and it's understandable he will do what ever he believes is necessary to leave. And finally at the very end when he is able to leave, he gets killed, he never sees the world beyond the island in all his time alive and yet Jacob could leave the island whenever he felt like it.
      Welp, after all these years this is what I've come up with...probably sounds crazy and I'm not sure even if I can believe it all myself but there's just some things we'll never know and I guess that's one of the reasons that made the show so great and still has us questioning it and coming up with ideas still.

That means having more light gives more abilities to a person, the ability to extend their will through thought. But the light itself is like a base power that can be shared and given away, so it's not actually taking or giving light, but rather, someone long ago did manage to take some of the light, and the power of that same light has been passed down through the sheer willing of it. The wine and water itself means nothing, it's just a ritual. The real effect comes from Jacob's will in his mind that basically says "If they drink this, they have the same power as me", and so they drink it, and then they do.

    THEORY ( MOTHER )
    How would mother know of the tragic end of someone who falls in the heart ? I believe she herself threw her master before her down it because the leader before her wanted to leave once mother came to the island .but when she threw her master down the heart ,instead of black smoke it caused her mistakes to come to life . instant karma for all her mistakes . Hence she killed Jacobs mom after birth ( then women started dying in child birth on the island ) and ghosts started to appear .she killed her master for leaving her but then M.I.B Kills her for trying to do the same to him .
    THEORY ( SPECIAL )
    M.I.B - talks to the dead
    BEN - Talks to the dead
    Hurly - Talks to the dead
    Walt - psychic ,clairvoyant and can astral project himself
    ALL special ability's
    Mother knew m.i.b was the real man for the job and not Jacob .but after the mistake she made of murder m.i.B turned on her .
    Jacob knew deep down he wasn't special so he searched for people with the same characteristics of his brother . Jacob knew he was not truly the right man for the job . So he looked for people like m.i.B to take his place .

      Or she accidentally ended up in the source, or because she was curious. Maybe she was her own version of MIB, but then realized the error of her way and decided to take on the mantle. Maybe the other she was with didn't want to bring more people to the island to replace them, but she knew they needed to eventually, so they had a disagreement and she had to kill them in order to be able to start bringing people to the island. Maybe she was even unwittingly sacrificed in the light in some kind of ritual, and became the smoke monster that way. Maybe the first person with the power had to become a smoke monster to bring the power into this world. She said it's worse than death to be a smoke monster. Maybe that means that when a person becomes a smoke monster, they don't go to the afterlife. We know she never appeared to MIB or Jacob after she died, so that must be what she meant by worse than death, it keeps you from having an afterlife at all.

      The wiring was good. Mib and Jacob have been cut off dumb the world their whole lives so they had that childish innocence. It's too show that they were just regular people before.

      Also after 5 Years: I think pple get the whole thing wrong. In fact the world is hellish bad and via sciene they tey to enter this place where you can clean and repend or die and find freedom but also they can change the natural ongoing. Jacob just starts to direct little amounts of people to there to prove his brother wrong and on the other side his brother wants to go to stop this from the core of the problem in the human world.
