How To: Vortech V-3 Supercharger Oil Change

  • **IMPORTANT NOTES**
    1. Never put more than 4oz (one bottle) of the Vortech V-3 oil in the supercharger. Overfilling the supercharger will result in supercharger bearing failure.
    2. Make sure the oil drain line is free of any major kinks or bends. The oil needs to be able to drain from the supercharger as smoothly as possible.
    The first fluid change in your V-3 supercharger should be done at 2,500 miles, with each subsequent fluid change at 7,500 mile increments.
    In this "How-To" video, we teach you how to properly change the oil in your Vortech V-3 supercharger unit. This same method also applies to our Paxton SL series superchargers.

    Does oil get forced out of the vent plug during normal usage on a V3? betwen my vent plug & dipstick you can see basically dried oil...like a film covered in dust. I checked the dipstick and there's no oil on it cold. Been bout 3k miles since i last changed the oil. Do i need to warm it up before checking the oil?

    I have 05 Mustang gt with v3 si, no intercooler, running on stock engine but with APR 156 -4301 head studs. so what's the safest rout to gain most power without blew my engine? some say 9-10 psi, and max 500whp. but this is the maximum risky power you can get, would you say 9psi,at around 450whp is safer to have fun with? mine blew up ,Ford mechanic think previous owner changed either crank pulley or supercharger pulls to create 19psi.

    If I don't drive 7500 miles per year, what's a good time interval to change the oil?

    • @VortechSuperchargers
      @VortechSuperchargers  4 роки тому +1

      There is not a set time interval for fluid changes, only mileage. If you were concerned about time interval on a unit without much mileage, one fluid change per year should be sufficient.

  • @KC-wz4po

    Installed a new Self Lubricated Paxton, and just changed the oil for the first time at 2500 miles. However, before reaching the 7500 mile mark for the next oil change, I noticed the oil is a bright milky pink instead of the magenta red it normally has after checking the dipstick. Is this normal or is it a problem? Do I need to change the oil right away now, or can it wait till the 7500 mile mark? What is causing the oil to be bright milky pink? Water condensation? If so, how to get rid of it or does it happen from time to time normally?

    • @OctaneSlain
      @OctaneSlain 7 місяців тому

      Immediately change that oil. Don't run the blower until it's changed. You have water contamination. These blowers have a vent plug that you're getting water accumulation through. Do you happen to have a car with a hood vent? Drive in the rain possibly?

    • @KC-wz4po
      @KC-wz4po 7 місяців тому

      Appreciate the reply. Yes, I have a Shaker hood system and the Paxton vent plug is located right under the shaker system so when it rains the water may be going into the supercharger through the vent plug side. I'll drain it right away and change the oil. Thanks.

      There are 3 different dipstick lengths, dependent on at what angle the supercharger is intended to me mounted. If you purchased the supercharger used, or the system you have is from a third party (not Vortech directly), it is possible that the dipstick in your supercharger is the incorrect length. Please give our service department a call for more information and further assistance.

      Every V-3 unit is self-lubricated, regardless of what compressor stage is attached to it. The units that are all engine oil fed include the V-1, V-2, V-4, V-5, V-7, or V-9 Superchargers. This is also true no matter what compressor stage is attached to the transmission side of the Supercharger.

    • @VortechSuperchargers

      While the V-3 Superchargers are self-lubricated and need separate fluid changes, all V-1, V-2, V-5, V-7, V-9 (etc.) units are engine oil fed, so they are provided a fresh supply of oil from the engine itself, via oil feed and drain lines coming off the engine, and draining to the oil pan.

    • @VortechSuperchargers
      @VortechSuperchargers  7 років тому

      The V-9 is an engine oil-fed supercharger, so there are oil feed and drain lines running to and from the supercharger that supply it with a fresh supply of oil as long as the vehicle is running. You only are required to physically change the oil in self-lubricated superchargers, such as the V-3 shown in this video.

    • @VortechSuperchargers

    • @VortechSuperchargers
      @VortechSuperchargers  7 років тому +2

      Any centrifugal supercharger will always be loudest when it is spinning at its slowest rate (idle). It is not uncommon for the gear noise to be what some would consider "loud", while many others would probably say it isn't loud enough! As long as the sound decreases when the supercharger is spun faster (off-idle and driving speeds), then the unit is most likely exactly as it should be. If you still have concerns, you can call the Paxton service department and have the unit sent in to be checked out.

    • @badlilstang
