I notice these days high school bands are small for the most part. In the 70's when I grew up high school bands in Shreveport were big and a lot of them were as good as college bands. Grambling high school in 77 had like 140 or more members and gave Grambling college competition for real. I actually enjoyed the H. S . more.
Charter schools and bureaucracy have ruined high school marching bands. When i was in school, our band was never under 100 people. at one point we were 180 strong. Now, bands are lucking if they have 80 members marching. . And on top of that. The students don't have the passion and dedication we had back then. Also, the economy play a role.
