- As we look for the best album of the decade, we have to do this a bit differently. So, in two videos we will talk about 36 of the best albums of the 2010s. Now that we've talked about the #1's, lets look at 25 albums that didn't get Album of the Year honors, but deserve mention in the conversation for albums of the decade. These albums could be in that top 10 conversation, but they deserve to exist among themselves to battle it out for their own #1 spot. Which album will capture this crown?

Still very grateful for you getting me into Threshold - Legend of the Shires two years ago CKN. I might give a few of these others a try.
Slice the cake’s Odyssey to the West has to take the number one spot for me, that album is next level. Haken’s The Mountain is a close second for me.
Odessey to the West is a masterpiece that everyone needs to experience. Even better now, because I just found out today that Slice the Cake is getting back together!
Michael Bergklint you may already know this as well, but they have a 3 track EP coming 2020 which will act as a sequel to Odyssey, so the hype is pretty much immeasurable
Yup. OttW is my AOTY for 2016 (#5 on my AotD list), and Haken was the runner up for my AOTY for 2013 (it also comes in at #6 on my AotD)
Thanks again for all your videos over the years CKN, you have introduced me to so many bands that I may never have come across that are now a permanent fixture in my music collection.
Very happy to see Winter’s Gate here. Deserves a spot on everyone’s albums of the decade lists
You should try and write a column for Decibel Magazine. I think you'd be a great fit.
Your choices are outstanding
An Abstract Illusion...what a GREAT find. Appreciate it. Enjoy life brother!!!
Winter by Oceans of Slumber
Bill by David Maxim Micic
Prisoners by The Agonist
Hats Off to the Bull by Chevelle
There's literally no other youtuber quite like ckn. UA-cam, my life, the world won't be the same after this channel.
I'm surprised Marrow of the Spirit isn't on this list or the other one, but I definitely agree with Ahab deserving a spot
Good picks!
love your review style even if I don't always agree with your opinions. you will be missed man
My album of the decade is Alter Bridge’s Fortress.
I was fortunate enough to see Insomnium play winters gate in full live. was incredible. anways great list coverkiller
Thank you for a Caladan Brood shout out!
You rock man!
I still to this day never understood the hype over The Book of Souls. Good album, but nowhere near their best material. Alice In Chains is of course great. Overkill is a band I want to look into more!
Not having an Alter Bridge album right here is a little dissapointing
I had a few notable albums in personal top 10 Albums of the Decade of that didn’t appear in either this video or your last.
Someone already mentioned both Haken’s “The Mountain” as well as “Odyssey to the West” from Slice the Cake. Both are masterpiece, both can’t miss albums from this past decade.
But I also want to mention “The Parallax II: Future Sequence” from Between the Buried and Me, and “Pelagial” from The Ocean. Another two phenomenal albums that made the top 10 of my end of decade list that every metal fan should hear.
Rolo Tomassi - Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It ..... incredible album
Caladan Brood is not a villain in Malazan! He’s an ally of the main protagonists. Glad you included Echoes of Battle on here, awesome album.
A couple of honourable mentions from my collection of this decade are -
Subrosa - No Help From The Mighty Ones
Killing Joke - MMXXII
And So I Watch You From Afar - All Hail Bright Futures
Author And Punisher - Melk En Honing
Windhand - Grief's Eternal Flower
The Levitation Hex - S.T.
Grun - Manyana
KMFDM - Hell Yeah
Master Boot Record - Direct Memory Access
Rhys Fulber - Your Distopia, My Utopia
Babymetal - Metal Galaxy
Klone - Le Grande Voyage
Chasms - The Mirage (Okay, not metal or rock, mainly for fans of Portishead waiting for the next album, if it ever comes out)
Skinny Puppy - Handover
Stone From The Sky - Fuck The Sun
and...
Fear Factory -Genexus (Probably because it sounds like Fear Factory is over thanks to legal woes, a great album to finish off with a bang)
And thanks for introducing Trees Of Eternity. I didn't cry, it just made me feel like my soul needed to be filled...
what is the background music near the end of the video. it sounds beautiful
1. Ne Obliviscaris - Citadel
2. Kalmah - 12 Gauge
3. Amaranthe - Amaranthe
4. Vektor - Terminal Redux
5. Fear Factory - Mechanize
6. Lamb of God - Resolution
7. Newsted - Heavy Metal Music
8. Carcass - Surgical Steel
9. Amaranthe - Helix
10. Overkill - Ironbound
Clicked on this hoping to see Hour of The Nightingale. Didn’t disappoint. Edit: Glad to hear such a strong recommendation for Songs of The North as well
If we also take in account #1's (I didn't made that filtering yet) here's my list:
1) Tool - Fear Inoculum
2) Cult Of Luna & Julie Christmas - Mariner
3) Peter Murphy - Lion
4) Cynic - Traced In Air 2019
5) Cult Of Luna - A Dawn To Fear
6) Rosetta - Quintissential Epherma
7) Cult Of Luna - Vertikal
8) Devin Townsend - Holding Patterns
9) Nine Inch Nails - Hesitation Marks
10) Gojira - L'Enfant Sauvage
11) Ihsahn - Ámr
12) Devin Townsend - Addicted
13) Sepultura - The Mediator...
14) Zeal And Ardor - Stranger Fruit
15) Devin Townsend - Epicloud
16) Ulver - War Of The Roses
17) Gojira - Magma
18) Alice In Chains - Rainier Fog
19) Killing Joke - Absolute Dissent
20) Rosetta - The Anaesthete
21) Obscure Sphinx - Anaesthetic Inhalation Ritual
22) Devin Townsend - Empath
23) Sanctuary - The Year The Sun Died
24) Florence And The Machine - Cerimonials
25) Anathema - The Optimist
Ooooooooo Hesitstion Marks! I'm also very into that one.
@@BananaDucshortz Really cool album. Reznor reinventing a bit his blueprint with the aid of Atticus.
Carlos Jantarada yess hesitation marks
Great list. Cult of Luna are one of the most consistent bands in metal.
Devins Addicted album was 2009
Damn that ending almost made me cry
Darkthrone - Old Star
Ironbound and Wings Of War I think are Overkill’s best for this decade.
They're the same albums can't even tell the difference
Book of souls 😍😍😍
Just looked in to Aleah Stanbridge of Trees of Eternity. Cancer always gets to me some kind of way ever since my dad passed from it Christmas 2018, which is also the day before my brother's birthday. Ironically, my uncle (mom's brother), who was my dad's best friend, also died before our (my dad and I) birthday earlier that year, also from cancer. Only heard of the band now and really need to check out what her music was about. Been meaning to look into more doom metal aside from sludge (mainly Crowbar; a lot of sludge bands don't sound like doom).
Ylem by dark fortress made me click fucking love that album
I thought for sure Sunbather would get a mention here
I see Ylem, fuck yeah
Triangle is such a masterpiece
Caladan Brood ♥️
I was literally going to say "One triple album down, when's the next one?"
How is Revocation not on this list?
Great albums , an abstract illusion is to low for me
My personal fav is dystopia
🤘
Hey brother! I heard from some of my close friends that you were retireing soon from your channel..... im sad to hear that to be honest, i love your work. If you'd like i would love for you to listen to a band called Death of a Deity! They have an EP called "Death Dealer" thats been out and is releasing a new album this very year! I would love your feedback, it would mean alot!

Colored Sands?
Colored sands is a great record👍
That's a great record
WINTERS GATE
book of souls was the album of the year
So this is black pigeon
How come there is no mention about Gojira,Meshuggah and Mastodon??
Because we are all different and like other stuff...
He's talking shit about Alice in chains - that album is nothing like dirt
Listcoverkill weeknation here, the internet's proggiest music nerd.
Not a big fan of this decade... 2000's are my go to decade.
Obscura - Omnivium
Vektor - Terminal Redux
Xanthrochroid - Blessed He Who Boils
Ne Obliviscaris - Portal of I
Omnium Gatherum - New World Shadows
Be'Lakor - Of Breath & Bone
Kalmah - 12 Gauge
Massakren (Starkill) - Immersed In Chaos
Sigh - Insomniphobia
Nothgard - The Age of Pandora
Ensiferum - Unsung Heroes
So no Ghost who CKN called the most important band of the decade, previously...
Probably done on purpose to expose these lesser known bands to a wider audience. Everyone knows who Ghost is and what they've managed to do in the last 9 years
People are allowed to change minds on their opinions, you know?
@@jbasti227 Oh, you don't say? How did I not think of that! I was raising the question because CKN called Ghost the most important band in a decade literally weeks before publishing this video.
It's pronounced melanA hAsmata (capital letters are accented).
Empire of the clouds is total shit
Maiden-book of souls?..garbage album
Oh dear no way in hell
This album is out of this world
Masterfuckinpiece
@@assemcrghannam5920 how?
All songs are way to long, most sound the same
viking raven i advise to give it another listen its really a masterpiece , the melodies and even the riffs at some parts were fuckin heavy
Specially the red and the black , this is propbably the best song iron maiden have written
@@assemcrghannam5920 I did a month ago.
Best song they ever did?
.lol..the worst song from any album from then in the 80s is better than that song
viking raven its your taste then
I personally was up to the heavens listening to it
But i see you are one of the 80s guys
Maiden kept releasing solid releases specially after bruce returned in 2000
Somehow the 2000s albums were more mature and progressive
