The shit rolled in large doses this year, so instead of this list just being free-flowing, or a top 5, it needed to get bigger and become a top 10, with a #1 that, while expected, comes complete with rage and loathing that...maybe should've been in the original video, where the rest of it was.
It's like watching Angry Joe do a Metal show, thank you CoverKiller, this is beautiful :)
:D
I knew that Fakesryche was going to be #1 on this list. Do you think the REAL Queensryche will be on the best albums list?
Best of 2013: David Bowie - The Next Day. No, not just because it's by a legend and not just because it follows a lengthy hiatus but because it truly is amazing. It's a tight, eclectic yet consistent, upbeat listen. It's definitely grown a lot on me over the months. This is the one for me.
Worst of 2013: Bon Jovi - Because We Can. It's basically the epitome of boring.
The Bon Jovi album's actually called What About Now. And yeah, it was easily my biggest disappointment of the year.
Want to watch the reviews again? All of the links are in the description box!
congrats on 17k CKN :)
zmtryhard115
thank you!
coverkillernation I really agree with vegencefalls major letdown, last good album was shogun
coverkillernation I like your videos want to subscribe but you've never reviewed my favorite band. Have you heard of Dance Gavin Dance? I think they're the greatest of all time if you review they're albums i'll definetly subscribe.
I think where people go wrong is that they don't understand "worst albums" and "bands that are cool to hate on" are completely different. Of course you're not gonna like an album by a band you don't like!! Being a huge music buff myself, I would only include albums from bands I really like but their newest album fell short of my expectations...
Another great video and no albums on here other than Asking Alexandria's FDTD would I disagree on. That album includes my fav song of the year in "Moving On." Therefore I can't put it into my worst albums haha!!!
k
this right here is honestly why i keep going back to the bands and giving them chances. its not that i love to senselessly bash them, hell, i think this year showed a certain calm to me when it came to that regard. its just that, as a music fan, you continue to be curious. "did this band turn a corner?" "did they escape the trendy mold and forge something different?" some would call it a difference of taste, which is a great argument, and one that usually involves far less explicitives than those who just say "ohhh, you jus hate dese guize becas iz kool to hate dem ur dum their awsome fuk u fattie"
plus, you can argue or support different tastes a lot more than the later, terrible argument. you can illuminate parts of the sound that don't gel with you as opposed to them, or breakdown what makes them sound poor, or generic, or whatever the initial point presented was. the latter argument is as cookie-cutter and generic, usually, as the band's album itself. hell, even when spoken and typed correctly it sounds idiotic and pretentious, "oh, kind sir, it appears you're merely offering the band negativity for reasons that many others do so. You're a sheep of the opposing herd, dismissing a band I enjoy based around its popular opinion. You, sir, have the intelligence on par with a household slug, and should consider dieting. I am concerned about your current portliness."
maybe i should make a video about how to comment on a youtube video.
coverkillernation hahaha, too bad most ppl on youtube just resort right to the negative bashing and that rly sucks bcuz it makes the conversation a train wreck. It's hard to converse with one sided individuals...
I agree that it's great to try and revisit certain bands but I think with many of these "newer" bands their sound is just too generic and watered down compared to what a lot of the classic metal bands are still doing.
I NEVER liked AA but their newest rly caught my attention with more clean vocals and actually great songwriting. It's all about what our ears hear and what we can relate to. That's what makes music so great. You can hear a song and laugh and I could hear the same song and it makes me cry..
I was going to read this conversation till i clicked read more.
Moral of this video: Everything Draiman touches turns to shit. Do NOT seek this guy out to produce your record.
Awesome review. Happy New year CK!
Hail To The King was a lot worse than From Death To Destiny. HTTK only had two good songs on it.
Suggestion for a review: Transatlantic - The Whirlwind.
Don't know if you reviewed it already, but couldn't find it.
I enjoy your channel keep it up :)
I'd like to hear your thoughts on KoRn's Paradigm Shift. Their first cd with original guitar player Brian Head Welch in over 8 years.
1. Hollywood undead still have a surprisingly large fanbase
2. A lot of evolution took place between AT and NTSFU such as less synthesisers, more clean vocals from Danny instead of the raspy voice we got in Hear Me Now. More metal tracks and more softer tracks and more complicated tracks such as We Are, Dead Bite and what I personally think is the bands greatest, most detailed, thorough and complicated yet simply beautiful song which is Lion. Lion involves amazingly good lyrics on the chorus with a combination of softer vocals along with keyboard to stronger vocals along with guitar solo work and powerful rhythm guitar and it is amazing how johhny slowly yet rapidly transcends from a sad low somber tone to a much heavier to be along with the piano changing to heavy guitar work.
Lion really stood out for me.
I'd like you to go back and listen to Lion a few times and do a review on it. Listen to the guitar work and actually read the lyrics. If you hate it after that's fine all I'm saying is it would be good if you reviewed this track thoroughly
I actually love the new BOO album; it's not the kind of improvement that the Discovery was, but it's still a badass album. I wasn't completely satisfied with it at first, but it really grew on me. It's one of my favourite albums today.
I like when you get angry haha
He reminds me of Jack Black in School of Rock. Lol
I totally agree with the "give bands a chance" statement. Just two years ago, I hated all metal because I didn't give it a damn chance. I thought of all metal as either Avenged Sevenfold, Cannibal Corpse or Poison, with nothing in between. Someone showed me a Ghost track, and I haven't looked back since. If I hadn't given it a try, I'd still be raving about Broken Bells or some such nonsense. It's really good to know what's there, because life in a closed box is no life at all.
This might be a little late, but can you review the latest album release from Death Grips?
I have to disagree with Vengeance Falls, great overall album and very creative.
Hehe. The only song from Device that I'm really familiar with is "Hunted". Though I actually like that one song, I gotta admit your comparison at 14:09 is spot on.
I think you need to see my video on Temper Temper, dude. They didn't make that album by their own will. The label forced them into a poppy, insincere sound, and they didn't wanna do it.
are you looking forward to dir en grey's follow up full length album to dum spiro spero in 2014?
hey coverkillernation i was wondering if u could review Rescue & Restore by August Burns Red id love to hear ur opinion on it !
I won't watch all the reviews again, but I swear that 3 of the albums on this list had a pretty decent review from you .. and you put them here, funny
Best rage ever haha ! BTW ... Nice video :) Greets from Poland \m/
Here's my top 5 best albums of 2013 and top 5 disappointing albums of 2013 (remember i have my own opinion you dont have to agree with it):
Top 5 best:
5. Sevendust - Black Out The Sun
4. Fight or Flight - A Life By Design?
3. We As Human- We As Human
2. Skillet - Rise
1. Stone Sour - House of Gold and Bones Part 2
Top 5 disappointments:
5. Megadeth - Super Collider
4. FFDP - TWSOHATRSOH Vol 2
3. Trivium - VF
2. Device - Device
1. A7X - Hail To The King
That's my opinion
FFDO TWSOHATRSOH is wwaaayyyy to long for an album name hahhaa
SmithyG's yeah.
The Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell. It takes up almost 2 fucking lines!
Trivium and A&X i really enjoyed, super collider was ehh alright, the others i agree (for dislikes)
Vippy Vips I loved VF (I was actually debating whether to put it on both lists) I was just expecting different
Fantastic video!
I kinda agree with you adding Super Collider to this list, cause when I heard the announcement of their upcoming album I had high expectations. I was hoping for intense thrash metal elements and then when I heard the single of Super Collider, it failed my expectations so bad. I can't complain though cause there were some good songs in the album like "Dance in the Rain" but seriously their last album was more better along with Endgame.
Super Collider is one for me. It's a botched musical abortion.
***** k
"About that life" was actually very good, but it's the only one of it's kind that is any good. Emmure, Crimson Armada, & Amity Affliction all suck hard.
I can just picture you just listening to the Attila album while banging your head against a frying pan yelling and crying out "why does this exist!?" lol!
this is so funny love your videos!
What do you think of Otep's latest en devour??
Great list man, I am especially happy to see Megadeth and Five Finger Death Punch's last efforts over there.
Shit
Shit
Shit
Shit
This list is over
Your number 10 is my Favorite album of the year. Love Vengeance Falls.
same.
Awesome list! Couldn't agree more.
lol "good for you, fuck you too!" that's gonna be my new phrase
the only album i will say didn't belong on this list or mentioned is tomorrow we die alive. the only reason is because it was the first album i listened to by BoO so it set different expectations for me than expectations i would have had had i listened to the discovery.
In my opinion, "Notes From the Underground" was Hollywood Undead's best album, but I can see why it wasn't good because they didn't really do anything new for that album. I would like to see HU do what they did with their first album but make it closer to their newer stuff. I do like BVB, but "Wretched and Divine: Story of the Wild Ones" was not that great. Jake Pitts is a good guitarist and I like the drumming of CC, but this album is kind of a let-down because they said it was gonna be more punk-like, and say that "It's Social Distortion meets Metallica" but I'm not sure this album was that great. I'd like to see the BVB be heavier(I know they don't describe themselves as metal but they still should play more metal) and this album should have been more punk-like as they said it would be. I do think that Jinxx's violin could probably make a good song when blended with metal and punk but this album wasn't that great. Now I personally hate Atilla. I can't even sit through their album. I wouldn't even say they're good enough to be the Limp Bizkit of deathcore, more like the ICP of deathcore.
Draidman actually had quite a lot to do with VF, in the documentary they said themselves that he was a huge part of it, including renaming the album.
I had never heard of Device, looked up their album, heard synths, Disturbed vocalist, and shitty riffs, closed it.
"Geoff Tate take up knitting...You can fuck up knitting... and I promise I won't talk about it..." haha classic
Again, you are pretty much spot on with all of these albums. Bravo good sir!
I actually think HU evolved on every album. On their first album, Swan Songs, It was targeted more towards rap than rock. It had more party songs than serious songs. Their second album, American Tragedy, Had more pain in the songs and heavy guitar. It only had 3 party songs. It was targeted more towards rock than rap. It also used acoustic guitar in a couple songs, Unlike the previous album. This album was compared to Linkin Park's first 2 records by many reviewers. The 3rd album had more party songs than the last record. The serious songs were more soft like the songs "Rain","Lion","Outside",and "Believe". I wouldn't consider someone who listens to HU a relic at this point. I've gone to one of their concerts at the Orbit Room last summer and there was the longest line I've ever seen at that place. There are some old fans they've lost because of the departure of their old clean vocalist "Deuce" which is now a solo artist.
I love Wretched and Divine, but then again I am a BvB fan :P I Agree with the rest though, although I am partial to FFDP occasionally and don't think device was too (notice too) bad
I actually like Super Collider (some what), but I think now that they've written about every nuclear warfare scenario possible they're starting to lose originality, whereas Metallica, although did go through a dry spell (but I did like load, ReLoad and St. Anger) are still making awesome songs, I mean Death Magnetic was incredible! And don't forget there spot on the Grammys ;). With BVB I agree, they only have a handful of good songs but that's it. I'll be surprised if they make it to 2015.
Only ones I disagree with are Attila's about that life (even though i completely understand why you wouldn't like it lol) and Born of Osiris's Tomorrow We Die Alive which I thought was pretty good however not as good as The Discovery
I liked the ffdp 2nd part tho :p admittedly, Ivan could've been a little more creative with the lyrics and the some of the guitar solos don't seem like they shouldn't be on the songs they are on. I still liked it though, it had some catchy choruses
Have you checked out Psychostick? They call themselves as Humorcore. Comedy Metal. I like them. Would like to see what you would think
i agree with born of osiris. i love them. I've seen them live (great show btw) but yeah. discovery was so good that its gonna be really hard to top it. i like the new album, but i keep thinking "Man, the discovery was awesome."
And Super Collider wasn't a bad album, but I agree with you on that it was a huge letdown. After the 3 amazing previous album I was disappointed by the results of this one.
R.I.P Box Me (a box missed by all)
(Gone but not forgotten)
Basterds!!!!
Trivium should automatically be at the top of “worst album of the year” every year bc they suck so bad. Great vids!!
Completely disagree with Trivium being on this list. Vengeance Falls Falls is in my top 4!
Queensrÿche has been going slowly downhill since after Empire. Operation:Mindcrime "2"... I think saw the true end of a once great band.
Coheed and Cambria is the only band I can think of that has successfully recycled riffs. Bullet for my Valentine was good when I was 13...but they don't even satisfy my nostalgia, and that's pretty bad.
The WORST album for me in '13- Watain's The Wild Hunt. As a cohesive work by a band I had some interest in it failed miserably. I realise bands need change to grow but the direction Watain took ended up by the middle to be a snooze fest. All these bands CK mentioned I could give a rats ass about. Metalcore/ deathcore is just todays version of Nu Metal dressed up in Hot Topic with mallcore haircuts.
And Pooper Collider? The funniest metal album of thr year. Mustaine doing comedy with Alec Jones inspired lyrics. Dave was better when he was strung out on dope and Satan.
Hey man! I disagree with your POV of FFDP's new stuff. I love your videos though! Lol.
I didn't even know BFMV came out with a new album- ... I listened to them once, disliked it, and expect nothing better in the future.
I disagree fully with 5FDP. Both albums are brilliant in my opinions. You can feel the heaviness and anger in every song. Although I do agree with BVB. I hate them so much.
I have to give myself a pat on the back because I own none of these albums.
It's funny how you said that you couldn't get through the Black veil brides album because I couldn't either. I kept skipping through their songs hoping they would get better but that never happened. I never really liked them to begin with though.
I have to agree on Five Finger Death Punch, I loved their original album, I was iffy about the second, I hated the third, and the fourth was just a huge disappointment.
Vengeance Falls was good... Draimen was not good
Asking alexandria is moving away from that whimpy shit...and im glad, cause im starting to grow up too. Nice to have a band grow up and evolve with you
I don't think Super Collider was bad,l actually like it.People consider it a dissapointment because it is a bit different to Megadeth's style.
For me this year was a year of disapointing albums. I love Trivium, but they wen't a little to simplistic for me. and BFMV was probably one of the worst albums I've heard. Warbringer was to cut down as well.
Luckily I wasn't planning to pick up any of those on the list. Megadeth might have gotten my attention if I hadn't heard samples online.
I would believe that Wretched And Divine The Story Of The Wild Ones was bad if it didn't sell over 42,000 copies in the U.S. In my opinion, it was a good album.
Just because a band sells over that many copies, doesn't mean they're good. BVB caters to a certain crowd.
I would've definitely put "Hail to The King" by A7X on the list. Use your influences for inspiration... don't try to become them.
I was kinda surprised to see that Lil' Wayne's "I Am Not a Human Being Pt. II" didn't make this list. :P
Ha this was so funny and so true for most of it...but I figured hail to the king would be on here.
hail to the king?
I completely agreed with you up until From Death to destiny. Asking's one of my favorite bands and it actually has awesome riffs compared to their first two albums. Wrong side of heaven and right side of volume 2 could have been better, but part 1 was the shit. I feel like ur one of the those people who just loves bands like cannibal corpse and just hates on more mainstream stuff. And I would have put temper temper at number 1.
That description of Geoff Tate was hilarious
I personally found Vengeance Falls to be one of my favorite Albums of the year, but I get why you wouldn't like it, not gonna hold it against you that you don't find something enjoyable that I do.
As soon as I saw this video was uploaded, my first thought was Tomorrow We Die Alive. You sir, hit the nail right on the head.
St. Anger is strong with you :P
*Runs to the hills*
Good list. Supercollider grew on me but still very disappointing, especially since Dave said it be their best album
Dave always says that though, so I wasn't taking that to heart.
Burn M.F. is radio friendly?
maybe the clean version where it doesn't say fucker. but that just ruins the song..... "BURN MOTHER........... BURN!" yeah ok......
It actually is. Just because a band swears doesn't make it not radio rock. All That Remains had around the same lyrical content as the fall of ideals, and that album is nothing but radio rock. Sorry to say, but yes Burn MF is radio rock
Do you only listen to heavy metal?
Frequency Unknown is just a hunk of pure junk...was my worst album of 2013 as well!
Seriously what is so wrong with David Draiman he is actually an amazing singer
Hollywood Undead was decent, but hopefully they go on the right track.
im glad you didnt bash megadeth to hard even though super collider hit #8, it wasnt a great album but i personally was on the half of the megadeth world that enjoyed it but i see why people didnt, so im glad you took the decency to respect it
Fashionably late is one of the worst "metal" albums of the last ten years
I respect your opinion CKN. But I disagree with Vengeance Falls being bad. I actually really enjoyed it. I can see why you didn't but it's my 2nd favorite Trivium album
God damn the last year went fast in hind sight...
I do have to say that Geoff is one of the nicest guys I've ever met.
Strongly disagree on about half of this, but I respect your opinion.
Super Collider is a bit of a grower. There's still a bunch of filler and some god-awful songs (like Burn) but it really isn't as bad as most people say it is (imo).
My big Brother likes Attila but i am like dude that band sucks.
You know, when get angry, you sound EXACTLY like Lewis Black.
i love how you can do all of these videos in just one take.
FFDP albums (Vol 1. & Vol 2) were awful ! I mean , those were very very poor
I can understand much of the albums on this list but VF by Trivium shouldnt have been on here... yes they kind of settle into a comfort zone but still put together some very well written songs that i havent gotten tired of listening to... if anything Fashionably Late by Falling in Reverse shouldve been on here! I think u would rip those guy's asses to shreds XD its just insulting to music period
why is hail to the king not on this list?
this would be on my list of top ten top ten worst album lists...if i had a list
Lol David Draiman has something to do with 4 of these albums :/ damn
No Artpop?
you're right i don't really like born of osirus's new album :l
I actually loved From Death to Destiny :D
