    The vessel has two bowthrusters delivered by Veth Propulsion in Holland. Each thruster is connected to a 571 Hp Scania engine. The stern is propelled by two 1271 Hp Mitsubishi engines. Steering happens by a conventional ruddersystem which is hydraulic powered.

      That explained the two simultaneous jets of water in different directions :) Quite an impressive amount of horsepower for a bowtruster

    I often marvel at the skill of these skippers and helms-people watch the webcam for the locks at Fankel must be like threading a needle with a sausage

    Netjes gedaan man , altijd vervelend met wind schuin vanachter. Vroeger deden we dat met een ankertje . Maar tegenwoodig een heleboel vermogen zowel voorschip& achterschip. dessalniettemin mooi gedaan ! Goede stoom Collega. Voor de mensen met commentaar: Het waait wel degelijk hard . Het wapperen van de vlag geeft een vertekend beeld met een lading containers en een achterlijke wind.

      Zo is het Karelatsea, wind bewust zo veel mogelijk van achteren gehouden. Weet het nog goed, was idd 10 a 11 Bf (de windmeter zit in de achtermast) Het gras waait bijna tussen de tegels vandaan.

    De cameraman heeft wel een erg stabiele positie gekozen bij 10 beaufort.

    It is really windy... But 10+ beaufort ??Look agt the two flags on top of the poles on the barge they should start shredding with a 10+ Bf ! On of them still flutters ...

      Actually it was 10 to 11 Beaufort, but that flag you are talking about was shielded from the wind by the containers. The wind was not coming straight from port side, but a bit from the stern/port side.

      Wind was 10 to 11 Bf, but coming almost 45 degrees from the rear. Look at the grass; it's almost blown away from between the tiles.

    I suppose Captain was using nothing but currents and waves (along with a bit of counter-thrust) to port this baby... Like they say, "go with the flow, let the mother nature bring you in" ~or somewhat.
    That's some mindblowing skills, when it comes to thinking about all the wanky hydraulics, he's floating in.

      Casey Limbert most bow thrusters for those type of of ships works 360 degrees.

      When empty, the main props in the back are not completely under water.
      So the bow thruster helps a lot stopping the ship.

      Not sure of that because there are allot of different propulsionsystems on these barges. Maybe a barge owner can give some clarity in here. I'm sure one of them will answer the question. So barge owners.... Please speak up ;-)

      Dont know The right english name for it but if you search on google for: Kanalen boegschroef(canal bowthruster) I'm pretty sure you will find it

    Was 10 Bf Adri, maar beetje van achter idd, vandaar vlaggen. Zie schroefwater. Was 2e landingspoging, 1e voelde niet lekker. HJ

      B Lauer; in such windy cicumstances for me it's more important to get info about the distance to the wall. That's why I told the guy on deck to wait with the lines until ship made contact front and rear, as you can not talk into an handheld radio and throw a line at the same time.
