Because of u I started doing moss poles and it has only been a week and my monstera adensonii (sp) has already rooted into the moss pole and put out a new leaf, it’s looks super happy so I wanted to say thank you so much. 😁

A video on your process of developing the cuttings would be interesting. How you chop up new plant, how to root them, developing secondary roots, when ready to pot, how to pin on pole, how to organize more than one on a pole, and a more extended version of you chopping up the base pole to make more cuttings (do you chop them while on the pole? do you really need to take the moss pole apart?) etc. Would also be interesting to see 6 month updates on your spotlight plants!

Im an unabashed follower of your moss poles. My house is terribly positioned for light so all my house plants are outside in grow tents under dappled shade. I live in central Queensland which is sub tropical. It is presently 21c and 68% humidity. My conditions are perfect for your moss poles and im seeing major results already. None of your vids get boring.

Great inspiration! I have two Splendids, with two leaves each, grown from wet sticks. I really appreciate your info, and pics of your Splendid's journey. My two plants, one with about 4" leaves, the other with 2-3" leaves... will be potted with a moss pole. Size of pot? I can still use help with that. I’ve had a splendid for almost a year now and it just reached the top of my pole and leaves are as big as yours. I have low humidity about 30-40% average these plants are so resilient and gorgeous! You’ve taught me so much thank you and keep it up please 🙏 🪴🥰
I love my Splendid so much..😍 and yours is stunning..I was wondering if you had more than one vine on your pole, but I can see its just the one. I intend to propagate the bottom pole once I do my first chop and extend, (sh's quickly getting to the top of the extension) and pot up at least 3 vines on a new pole. I think it will look so lush and beautiful
I started my plant journey late, last year, so I am still learning and absorbing all the information I can get. You have been an inspiration, and I consider you to be extremely knowledgeable in plant care. I do have an issue I would like your input on, if possible. I live in South Florida so all of my ‘indoor’ plants are outside and most are doing well, particularly my philodendrons and pothos. But I’m having such a difficult time with easy, generic anthuriums. I’m dying to get a clarinervium or crystallinum but if I can’t get a simple, generic anthurium to thrive what can I do to get one of those to survive, much less thrive? Halp. Advice pls. Abt me: 1. overwaterer usually ok because everything is outside and it’s hot and water evaporates quickly here and standing outside just hosing down your plants is fun. 2. Underfertilizerer because I have given my plants fertiliser burn before. 3. occasional neglectful plant parent because, well, life. 4. I like dragging my plants out onto the front entryway patio for rain when I can 5. I don’t like dragging them back into the shade and they got sunburnt once.
Thanks :) Don't overthink it :) give it a try & see if they are happy :) Your conditions in south florida should be perfect. Anthuriums love humidity but they don't tolerate drying out like a pothos or monstera would.

Ironically non-commercial nurseries that specialise in houseplants are few and far between in my area even though I literally live 10 mins away from the big boy, box store supplier, Costa Farms. Orchids and landscaping plants are around every corner though.
The spot lights may be similar, but they are still informative and enjoyable to see the plant growth progress. I look forward to seeing videos from you. Question, did you get your Oxalis fully grown at the large size it currently is or did you grow it from corms? I planted about 15 corms into a pot around 2 months ago and it isn't nearly as full as yours...yet.

It’s in my houseplant tour part 2. Melanos seems to be one of the harder species and I haven’t had too much success with them either but will definitely make a video on it eventually :)
As you are reading comments, I thought I could squeeze in some more insights. There is a couple of things that cost almost no effort but upgrades video quality by orders of magnitude: 1. Write a simple script to shorten the narrative and improve "info per sec" parameter, which is right now a bit on the lower end; 2. Instead of explaining your conditions in every video towards the end, I'd put a slide with all the information, namely humidity 60-70% all year, north-facing window in Sydney, Australia, watering only pole every 2 days etc. This would save your effort, viewers time, and would also be more precise than improvising with words (hopefully this sentence makes sence, Eng is not my native); 3. Some more close-ups to see the current plant state and details better. I should stress again, your experience is a blessing for the community, my sincerest gratitude.
I really love your video's. I'm just starting with Monstera's, Phylodendron's ... after been "into" orchids (because I had a greenhouse, now I don't) and Passiflora. What puzzels me is the determination of the different species (not only the variaty's 🙄). How can you tell it's a Philodendron, Epipendrum, Monstera, etc. are there any good resources??
There probably are but I just learned over the last 3 years. Most of my knowledge comes from instagram or youtube & talking to other plant collectors. Not sure if there is a comprehensive guide but ultimately, the name of the plant doesn’t really matter. I grow them for their looks, not for their name :)

Love watching your content. I want to attempt your method with a golden pothos, because the mature leaves look stunning in photos. However, I'm finding it quite difficult to locate the pots & hardware cloth in the same dimensions you describe. Finally found the hardware cloth, still not having luck with the pots. If any of the products you use are available for online purchase, maybe you could include links to purchase at some point down the road?
Your splendid looks really really splendid. Mine always gets yellow on the edges of the older leaves and I've got absolutely no clue why. She's in a very chunky mix, on a moist moss pole and the leaves are sizing up extremely quickly, so I'm assuming she's in very good conditions.
@@sydneyplantguy Don't think so, she's at constant 55% like all my other plants and they're all doing good. I rather think it might be a fertilizer thing or something like that. Or maybe because I always mix my tap water with RO water (50/50) and my tap water is a bit hard. Not sure, still love them though, my fav. Philo hybrid.

Your plants are sooo beautiful. Unbelievable. I wanted to set up a moss pole for my Adansonii but I have one question: how do you work with moss poles if you have pests? I can imagine that they like to hide in the moist moss. Do you also treat the moss via watering or something?
I'm maybe a little bit late to the party but this is a great video and series, the videos aren't too long and you have detailed info elsewhere about generic things. I definitely agree with what you said about conditions varying, even people in the same city may have completely different conditions! You should think about doing some close comparison videos, i.e Glorious vs Splendid, I think it can be hard to see the differences in detail online when choosing between them. I'm sure there are others that could be done too :) You've gotta love some plant porn!
May I try to grow mcdowell and glorioso to the moss poles? I really feel perplexed why splendid and glorious can climb the mosspole while mcdowell and glorioso can only stay in stray pots....
Not all plants are the same, and not all have the same growth pattern. Some are terrestrial (crawlers) some are climbers. Mcdowell & gloriosum will not climb up a mosspole. I have a Splendid cutting that was 1 leaf. That one eventually died off & it it grew another single leaf. I have it in spag moss, so maybe I should put it on a pole 🤔 It's doing nothing 🤷🏾♀️
What do you mean by chop and extend? You chop the plant and then let it extend on its current most pole? (So it takes longer for them to take over their moss pole?)

It's in 50%perlite 50% coco peat. Give it bright indirect light & time :) mine is over two years old

i got the tiniest wetstick of a juvenile one 2 months ago and now it has 4 tiny leaves the size of a coin and just came out of the growbox. We'll see

I don't really have that much to say about it. I water it very infrequently (maybe every 3 weeks max) and give it a lot of bright light :)

I haven’t noticed the pests being attracted to the moss poles at all 🤷🏻♂️ so no difference in treatment to non-moss pole plants :)

I'm maybe a little bit late to the party but this is a great video and series, the videos aren't too long and you have detailed info elsewhere about generic things. I definitely agree with what you said about conditions varying, even people in the same city may have completely different conditions! You should think about doing some close comparison videos, i.e Glorious vs Splendid, I think it can be hard to see the differences in detail online when choosing between them. I'm sure there are others that could be done too :) You've gotta love some plant porn!

May I try to grow mcdowell and glorioso to the moss poles? I really feel perplexed why splendid and glorious can climb the mosspole while mcdowell and glorioso can only stay in stray pots....
Not all plants are the same, and not all have the same growth pattern. Some are terrestrial (crawlers) some are climbers. Mcdowell & gloriosum will not climb up a mosspole. Check out this video: My crawling Philodendrons - gloriosum, pastazanum, plowmanii etc. - growing large aroids indoors

Not essential but give you the best chances in an indoor setting
I have a Splendid cutting that was 1 leaf. That one eventually died off & it it grew another single leaf. I have it in spag moss, so maybe I should put it on a pole 🤔 It's doing nothing 🤷🏾♀️
What do you mean by chop and extend? You chop the plant and then let it extend on its current most pole? (So it takes longer for them to take over their moss pole?)

No, moss is a growing medium, bamboo is not
What size pot do you tend to put these in with the moss pole?
14 cm first & once I extend the pole I repot into 20cm
So with the large pole and a small cutting, what size pot do you use? I know you say in one of your videos that you only use 20cm pots, but do you start smaller, like when the plant is a small cutting?

When I first give it a pole I put it into a 14cm pot and then repot it into a 20cm pot once i extend the pole :)
