So what do you think, will a supervolcano eruption be the last thing 2020 surprises us with? But... before that happens, give Babbel a try with 50% off 6 months for a limited time only! bit.ly/Thoughty2
WHY NOT JUST JUST LANCE THE BOIL AND RELEASE THE PRESSURE? WHAT I MEAN IN DETAIL IS TO DRILL A FEW HUNDRED DRILL HOLES WITH VALVES TO INCREASE THE RATE OF PRESSURE RELEASE AND THUS THE VOLCANO WILL NOT EXPLODE . THE VERY HOT GASES CAN BE USED TO DRIVE STEAM TURBINES FOR ELECTRICITY AND WILL PAY FOR THE COST. THE DRILL HOLES DO NOT HAVE TO BE VERY DEEP INTO THE MAGMA BUT JUST A FEW HUNDRED FEET ABOVE IT. THEY WILL RELEASE THE PRESSURE.

Well I live about 150km away from Mount Krakatoa (now Mount Anak Krakatoa) and 1250km from Mount Tambora, live couldn't be better with a front row seat in 2020
yet both of you probably dont know about the super volcano found under the pacific ocean just 150 miles off the japanse coast? its twice the size of yellowstone but hasnt erupted since its birth so they say
@@mjimih 21 i think known as of 2020 there are 2 active SV's in america the most famous is Yellowstone and one not so many know is Mammoth Lake in California, in europe there is Campi Flegri which just so happens to be where versuvius is and that volcano is just the land section of the caldera most of that italian SV is under the bay of naples. there is the japanese one i mentions that i think is pretty much extinct as it hasnt gone in millions of years, you got 3 in Indonesia and you got my all time favorite SV Mount Paektu on the north korean/china border now if that motherless horror goesd we will be rid of two pests! the last time it erupted i believe the damage caused was as far reaching as beijing in china with the ash clouds but yeah Mount Paektu is hyper active as of late and thats only made worse due to rocketman blowing holes in the side of the bloody volcano with underground nukes! theres one in newzealand that formed a large part of the sunken contient lol there is a dead SV in Siberia Russia and those are the ones i know about as i said i think they found 21 of them of which i think only half of them are active in some small way the most active being yellowstone.
I feel that if a major disaster like that would strike today, the majority of the casualties will not be attributed to the disaster itself but due to the after math
@John Swanson I tend to agree and let’s not forget all the mental challenges that come with having no future anymore. One day you are planning your next whatever, the day after all the plans you ever wanted to carry out will have now landed in the garbage bin. People that never contemplated suicide will definitely look at it as a way to get out of the mess they are in! Hence why I’m more afraid of the aftermath...
meh, volcanologists say that'll yellowstone will never be a true super volcano because the layer that lava has to travel through is way too thin to build up enough pressure to ever see a true super volcano eruption. Star Talk with Neal deGrasse Tyson had one on recently.
Tristan Causer Thats not entirely true. Scientists and people who study these volcanos would be able to tell weeks in advance. So not “everyone in the surrounding states” would be killed. Places like British Columbia and Alberta would also be affected by the eruption.
Krakatoa was a more impressive eruption. Nothing like a volcano literally exploding itself into nothingness. Another fun fact about Olympus Mons is that due to the slope of the volcano: if you travelled up it for a day without stopping and looked down and then repeated that activity for another day and looked down, it would look like you didn't move at all.
But he just explained Krakatoa was an index factor of only five meaning only ten times worse than Vesuvius... and the Tambori eruption of level 7 was 100 times that of Vesuvius.
Krakatoa's eruption, compared to the ones of Yellowstone and/or Toba, is like a firecracker. Yellowstone caldera's magmatic chamber is at least 100 times bigger than Krakatoa's, so those 2 can't be compared at all. A comparison that would be more fair to Krakatoa's would be comparing it to Pinatubo's eruption in 1991.
Techically, if we go by the Julian / Ethiopian calendar - the year is 2012. *Movie 2012 springs to mind*. Could Yellowstone erupt on 12/21/12 or should I say 12/21/20 by the Gregorian Calendar?
Weaponized weather is the sharp side of the blade, much of our technology is not for betterment of mankind but as a aid for the powers to be to full fill their agenda..
@@NightShinerStudio Assuming that both species are still alive at the time, when said chimpanzees get evolved enough to enter the Iron Age they'll probably say "Sod this spear, furnace and shield bullshit, shall we just take 10 steps forward at once and learn how that tech what the other bunch have works? And just borrow the bits they don't want due to being outdated by a decade or so?" This is the translation from a series of chimp cackles of course.
Excellent video. Just a small correction: Mouna Kea is 10209m from base to peak (the tallest mountain on Earth in that regard), but only 4207m above sea level. Mount Everest is the tallest mountain above sea level on Earth at 8849m.
Yeah. Just had a look at it with the terrain feature of google maps. It is basically one long string of volcanoes and caldera lakes. Yet some 270 million people live there. Brave people...
I used to live there, in Jogja. Back in the UK now. I did manage to get a trip to Krakatoa back in 2004, had a photography friend being a guide for a German volcanologist that was going to take samples and monitor the volcano and asked if I wanted to tag along. Event of a lifetime.
"Krakatoa" sounds like something awful, like perhaps a mountain blowing up with a huge roar and cracking sound. "Tambora" sounds like one of those obscure musical instruments only percussion dweebs can play correctly.
Hm interesting I wonder if these bitches on top of us(0.00001) have backup super homes or some shit that might save their life by using billion of dollars
Cool fact about Olympus Mons: it’s so wide and has such a gentle slope, if you were standing at its top, you wouldn’t even know that you were on a mountain. The slope of the volcano extends beyond the Martian horizon.
@matty kelly If you think that's mind boggling, the Oort cloud's outer boundary is estimated to be somewhere between 1.58 and 3.16 ly. Alpha Centuri is 4.37 ly away, and presumably has it's own Oort cloud. Meaning that ours and theirs possibly overlap with each other.
"Mauna Kea is a majestic 10.200 meters ABOVE SEA LEVEL" So, around 1.300 meters higher than Everest? That's a firm negative. Mauna kea is 10.200 from its base that sits below sea level. Mauna kea is around 4.200 above sea level 😉
Exactly, because the highest, is Volcán Ojos del Salado in Chile at 6,893 m (22,615 ft). Above sea level.Counting from under the sea is just a technicallity.
@@lanefunai4714 No, he says it is 10,000 some odd meters ABOVE SEA LEVEL. It is actually 10,000 some odd meters from SEA FLOOR. And actually 4,000 some odd meters above sea level. He had the right numbers but very wrong wording.

Ah, yes, ilopango and crew which ilopango ended it in with its 536ad/540ce eruption. Ilopango was the one that ended it off. Seems like the super major ones always ends it with a big bang. But yes the time the Romans lamented about famines and crops not ripening due to lack of sunlight and radiation. The mayans we're shocked and went into a dark age from it. And loll and behold that one is showing signs of awakening up too activity wise currently. ( later edit ilopango was dated more recently/later after this comment was first posted to till 410 ce. But iceland 540ce still stands. Their was one on 536ce, 540ce, 547ce, and wasn't there one in like 510ce? At least three big eruptions occured, but there arw speculation on it being four to five big ones. One was said also to be in north america that caused gas plume to go the whole way to europe and china? That or ones erupted near there too. But there was also one thst erupted near equator and possible one in indonesia said to be dormant now with an H in the beginning besides krakitoa. So? But still a good idea to be keeping an eye on them all ans climate with this all going on and when geo quakes also hit peak. The Geo gases that all faults, fissures and volcanoes spew right before during and directly afterwards when calming down are crucial to keep in mind. Geo gases include carbon dioxide,(CO2), carvon monoxide (CO), N2O aka Nitrous oxide (a major green house gas and if eaten by a type of bacteria turns into N2), methane, radon and when dealing with volcanoes and fissures sulfuric acid (H2SO4), and carbonic acid (H2CO3) besides sulfur dioxide (H2S), hydrogen (H2), hydrogen chloride ( HCL, which is used in industrial metal pickling and is also found in the stomach to break down food on a smaller quantity with enzymes), hydrogen fluoride (HF), hydrogen bromide (HBr) aka known with the other hydrogen acids as hydrogen halides and Helium (He).
I like to remind Greta and her followers Mt Saint Helen is still out doing the human race regarding green house gases and emissions. Hell, the fires in California and Australia will be outdoing us for the next 100 years....
@@BigPawTivald A friend of mine keeps saying that Humans are accelerating Global Warming significantly more than anything else. The world itself spews out more toxic gas naturally in a year than every vehicle on the planet combined. Remember Fern Gully (yes the movie) Hexxus originally came from a volcanic eruption. Even though he later fed on human generated toxins, it was the volcano itself that created the problem in the first place.
@BigPawTivald and I'd like to remind you, even if 2 years later, that while you can try to stop a volcano from erupting and see how that goes, we can very easily stop dumping tons and tons of petrol and plastic into the oceans
@@MandoRick1978 it depends on how you look at this. Let me give you some context, this statement was said by a poet (who is considered an artist) that has simplified many mysteries via poetry. As for intellectuals he was referring to academics (who usually use academic jargon) that always use academic language which is not usually understood by the layman. In the case of a painting, it is left to be interpreted by anyone in anyway, just because you don't see something meaningful it doesn't mean someone else isn't. It's like how some genres of music are appealing to a certain person and others aren't. The ones that aren't appealing doesn't mean they aren't art or music anymore.
@@lesiba5382 I know exactly how to look at it. Ironically not a single person reaches for poetry when the shit hits the fan. I am a realist, I see an idiot shoving paint up his ass, and other idiots trying to find meaning where there is none. I understand poetry, despite you thinking me silly for being logical. I have looked at the deeper meaning, there is none! Man knows nothing for certain, not a single thing, so everything else is just pissing in the wind. If you enjoy getting covered by it and try to find deeper meaning to console yourself, then feel free. Follow a guru, praise an artist. When all is said and done, you know exactly as much as I do, which is absolutely nothing. If painting a picture makes you feel better about your absolute lack of absolute truth, then feel free. But do not expect me to buy into your bullshit when you claim it has deeper meaning, because I may just call you out on your bullshit and ask you to explain said deeper meaning, which is when the cop-out starts and you claim it is different for every person. Truth is truth, and we have none, because we know nothing with certainty. Go write a poem about that.

Well out of the kill zone for that amazing event if it were to happen. Then again, Yellowstone can't be considered overdue for another 100,000 years. Of course, that is for a VEI 8 eruption. There is nothing that says it can't produce a large VEI 7 eruption instead
@@nicholasholloway8743 More likely the other way, considering that Yellowstone is unlike other potential supervolcanoes. Yellowstone possesses enough nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen that if it were to have a major explosion, it could transform the Earth's atmosphere into something much more like that of Venus.
As always, very informative and entertaining. A minor correction is that the arithmetic at 13:20 is incorrect. The eruption would bury England to a depth of 9 metres and not 1km. (ie 1170 / 130400 = 0.00897 km which is 8.97 metres). Mind you, either of these would seriously disrupt the Premier League but still wouldn't stop Erling Haaland from scoring at least 30 goals this season. Cheers

I’ve visited Lake Toba inside the supervolcano caldera. It’s incredibly huge, and seeing the scale in person and trying to visualise the vast scale of the eruption is terrifying, almost beyond comprehension. Don’t stare too long into the existential abyss of a supervolcano eruption.
I expected thoughty to mention the Minoan eruption. This occured around 3600 years ago and was 4 times greater than Krakatoa in terms of material ejected. It is believed that it wiped out the Minoan civilisation. If it is as large as is claimed the eruption probably affected the worlds' climate like Tambora.
Another effect of Tambora was the rain that caused Napoleon to be unable to succeed at Waterloo, because his heavier cavalry and guns got bogged down. To elaborate on that theory, you mentioned.
What global temperature increase? Temperatures are within 0.36° of where they were in 1980. Which means that they are basically unchanged. If you look at the satellite temperature data, which is the most accurate temperature record available anywhere on the planet, you will find that the temperature goes up and down over decades and there is no positive trend in temperature outside of the general upward trend that the planet has been on since the end of the last period of glaciation. Yes, all of that is easily confirmed by checking the data for yourself. After all, there is a reason that all of the charts shown by climate alarmists start in the late 1970s. Because if you go back 40 years before that point you will find that temperatures where much higher and it destroys the entire climate alarmists narrative about man-made global warming. The US has the most accurate temperature record of the entire world, yet most of it is ignored by the climate scientists that get millions per year from governments to prove that humans are causing the planet to warm. So they produce evidence to support the hypothesis and every single one of them says the same thing without fail. Humans are causing the Earth's temperature to increase at a never before seen rate. The problem is that none of them have proved the claim. Yes, they have written many papers talking about it and drawing conclusions because they can't possibly be wrong. The problem is that they have been saying exactly the same thing about human activity since the 1700s. I literally mean saying the same things about melting ice sheets, shrinking glaciers, rising sea level, and the polar ice sheets melting. Sadly the only climate scientists that have made constantly accurate predictions are the ones they call deniers and act like they are heretics to some type of religion. The mainstream climate scientists are correct less than 35% of the time, while their rivals, the ones they call deniers and try to get fired have a much more accurate accuracy rate of just under 90% where their predictions are concerned. If Earth's temperature responded to CO2 the way they claim it does, the Earth would have never been able to support life at all because for most of its early life the CO2 level in the atmosphere was over 7000 ppm. This means that the Earth would have gone into a runaway greenhouse event resulting in the Earth becoming another Venus. FYI, with CO2 levels slowly rising, in about 400 years CO2 should reach 1000 ppm again assuming nothing changes. This is close to the level that commercial greenhouse operators use and it will cause plant life across the planet to explode. Many deserts will cease to be desert as the amount of rain that they get will be more than enough to turn them green. This in turn will start to reduce the CO2 levels in the atmosphere. Of course, I assume that once they get the ITER operational we will finally get the answer to the fusion power problem and fusion power will become a reality

USA: we have a supervolcano that can kill all of us
Indonesia: Pathetic
meh, volcanologists say that'll yellowstone will never be a true super volcano because the layer that lava has to travel through is way too thin to build up enough pressure to ever see a true super volcano eruption. Star Talk with Neal deGrasse Tyson had one on recently.
Yellowstone will kill everyone in the surrounding states, cripple the US and the world economy.
Tristan Causer Thats not entirely true. Scientists and people who study these volcanos would be able to tell weeks in advance. So not “everyone in the surrounding states” would be killed. Places like British Columbia and Alberta would also be affected by the eruption.
Now watch by the end of this year, both will go off at once.
Cringe
Krakatoa was a more impressive eruption. Nothing like a volcano literally exploding itself into nothingness. Another fun fact about Olympus Mons is that due to the slope of the volcano: if you travelled up it for a day without stopping and looked down and then repeated that activity for another day and looked down, it would look like you didn't move at all.
Probably because you didn't, Your oxygen tank would have run out before the second move! ;)

And loll and behold that one is showing signs of awakening up too activity wise currently. ( later edit ilopango was dated more recently/later after this comment was first posted to till 410 ce.

In the case of a painting, it is left to be interpreted by anyone in anyway, just because you don't see something meaningful it doesn't mean someone else isn't. "Then the second angel sounded: And something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became blood. And a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed" Chapter 8, verses 8 and 9 - Book of Revelation written approximately 95AD by the Apostle John (NKJV used)
Something like a burning mountain thrown into the sea... clearly an asteroid.
Whatever....
a burning mounting thrown into the sea? sounds like to me a volcano doing that krakatoa did in 1886 yet the only one i could think.......... OH GOD! Lake Toba! the lake in lake toba is huge almost a sea in its own right and lately there have been rumblings from said volcano and last year it did erupt but nothing major.

2020: Do you need help buddy. I got more tricks in my sleeves, if you want.
"We need to stop global warming." Monkey's paw on a planetary scale?
Supervolcanoes : "We got you fam!"
@@YEf-ix1yy supervolcano would cause an ice age for thousands of years. A category 7 volcano like Tambora is enough to cool down earth for a decade
