I'm so stoked you're back Sir! Questions; Do the 60' flaps not deploy automatically? Also what are the two black pods at the bottom of the front window? My best from Down Under in Middle Earth!
Thank you. I hope to get up more videos this year. On larger jets, the ground spoilers deploy automatically, triggered by a weight on wheel switch. All manually in the Citation Jet. With 60 deg flaps, also the speed brakes come up, at least that is automatic... With reference to the black pods int the bottom of the fron window: is that in the Mooney or on the CJ3+? Greetings to Australia & Happy Landings, Capt. Guido
OK. These are to detect ice on the windscreen at night. They emit a red glare light that shows the ice. Otherwise difficult to see at night. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido
Hi! Have you ever flown a TBM? If you do, can you show me a link to it? I'd like to see you flying this airplane. You fly those single engines so professionally, it's absolutely nice! Good job, Captain!
I have MSE, curious as to why you used the speed brake to stablize in descent. Loss of lift with potential cross wind would seem to create a hazard. For me I ususally use first flaps at this wind component. Higher speed at landing alleviates porposie tendency and also more quickly the go around given the probability of a go around. Would appreciate your comments on the speed brake. I never use them unless I am high on approach or control left me too high...Bill
Hi Bill, I do not consider myself as an experienced pilot on Mooneys. I used the speed brakes to bring the airspeed quickly to desired target speed (I think 80 knots). They come out and retract very quickly, so I see. no hazard. What I have seen so far is that the Mooney is a clean aircraft and tends to float with excessive speeds on landing. Not desirable in a crosswind. Happy Landings, Capt, Guido
Beautifully done! Question: at one point, you indicate speed brakes up to stabilize approach. Could you explain? I have a Columbia 400 with speedbrakes, but deploying them on approach is not recommended.
Hi Mark, Stabilizing means just to get back to target speed on the approach. It was a bit turbulent and the speed =was fluctuation, so I added 10 knots or so over normal. I do not know the Colombia and the size of the speed brakes. Relatively small speed brakes in the Money. They get you an extra 500 fpm descent rate at the same airspeed or a deceleration of airspeed Not sure why Colombia does not recommend them on an approach. If you have not done already, please consider subscribing to my channel, that helps a lot. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido
@@GuidoWarnecke Hi Guido: Thanks so much for your quick and informative response. I now see that I had misunderstood what you were saying in the video. I thought you meant you were keeping speed brakes up through touchdown. In fact, now I understand that you were deploying them to get back to target airspeed. That would also be a recommended use in the Columbia. Thanks again! Mark PS: I'm already subscribed and enjoy all your videos!
Hi Thomas, the Mooney is a very aerodynamically "clean" aircraft. I aircraft with piston engine you cannot bring the engine to idle in a descent from altitude because of possible shock cooling the engine. So the speed brakes help a lot. They normally add 500 feet per minute descent rate at the same engine power. Alternatively - that is what I did - you can use them to slow the aircraft down during an approach. If you approach 10 knots too fast for example, you would need 1,000 feet more runway. But you are right, not may piston engine aircraft have speed brakes. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido

Thank you - muchas gracias.
Greetings to Argentina & Happy landings,
Capt. Guido
Nice looking Mooney
Yes, a very nice Mooney.
Now even better with the new avionics.
Happy Landings,
Guido
Love it, Captain! 👍
Thank you Geary!
Happy Landings,
Capt. Guido
VORs haha that's a throwback, they decommissioned all of them now
Still a fall back if GPS jamming happens. I had this last month in the Middle East.
Happy Landings,
Capt. Guido
I'm so stoked you're back Sir!
Questions;
Do the 60' flaps not deploy automatically?
Also what are the two black pods at the bottom of the front window?
My best from Down Under in Middle Earth!
Thank you. I hope to get up more videos this year.
On larger jets, the ground spoilers deploy automatically, triggered by a weight on wheel switch.
All manually in the Citation Jet. With 60 deg flaps, also the speed brakes come up, at least that is automatic...
With reference to the black pods int the bottom of the fron window: is that in the Mooney or on the CJ3+?
Greetings to Australia & Happy Landings,
Capt. Guido
@@GuidoWarnecke How awesome you replied!
The black pods on the CJ.
OK. These are to detect ice on the windscreen at night. They emit a red glare light that shows the ice. Otherwise difficult to see at night.
Happy Landings,
Capt. Guido
@@GuidoWarnecke a
That makes a huge amount of sense!
Awesome Captain, thank you!
Hi! Have you ever flown a TBM? If you do, can you show me a link to it? I'd like to see you flying this airplane. You fly those single engines so professionally, it's absolutely nice! Good job, Captain!
Thank you.
Have never flown the TBM.
The only singe engine jet props I have flown are the P46T, C208, Pac750 and the PC12.
Happy Landings,
Capt. Guido
Hi Bill,
I do not consider myself as an experienced pilot on Mooneys.
Happy Landings,
Capt, Guido
Prachtige video ,bedankt .
En een goede co piloot 👨✈️ 😉
Thank you Luc.
Happy Landings,
Capt. Guido
Brilliant video! How do you get to fly all these planes around the world?
I have a ferry flight company:

Very nice! Good didactic video!
Thank you very much Rogerio.
Happy Landings,

Beautifully done!
Question: at one point, you indicate speed brakes up to stabilize approach. Could you explain? I have a Columbia 400 with speedbrakes, but deploying them on approach is not recommended.
Hi Mark,
Stabilizing means just to get back to target speed on the approach. It was a bit turbulent and the speed =was fluctuation, so I added 10 knots or so over normal.
I do not know the Colombia and the size of the speed brakes.
Relatively small speed brakes in the Money.
They get you an extra 500 fpm descent rate at the same airspeed or a deceleration of airspeed
Not sure why Colombia does not recommend them on an approach.
If you have not done already, please consider subscribing to my channel, that helps a lot.

Mark
PS: I'm already subscribed and enjoy all your videos!
Sou piloto privado, e estou admirado com a habilidade desse piloto.
Ele é Muitissimo bom!!!!!👏👏👏👏
Thank you - muito obrigado Joao.

another great video! why does the mooney have speedbrakes? that's pretty uncommon for propeller aircraft aside from motorgliders, no?
Hi Thomas,
the Mooney is a very aerodynamically "clean" aircraft.
Happy Landings,
Capt. Guido
@@GuidoWarnecke thanks for the quick reply, that makes sense! we never do that in our motorgliders but we dont go higher than 5 or maybe 7k' so it's not a concern i guess. i have been a subscriber for some years already, glad to see the uploads pick up again!
Quick question what is the Descent EGT when youre setting mixture there ?
Just keep it in the normal range around 50 rich of peak, or if you fly lean of peak at the cruise LOP
setting.
Happy landings,
Capt. Guido
