... I love that being able to watch this on UA-cam, from the comfort of your own home, is the logical extension of the show's own message.
"This is what they call progress, dear."
I seriously hope they don't close it. It's my second-favorite attraction at Disney World, after the Haunted Mansion.
+zazelby :) I agree. Walt would have loved the Internet. And he would have also loved robotics! Did you know that there are a ton of humanoid robots out there on the market today? I have many favorites but my three top ones to own are ASIMO, NAO and Pepper.
zazelby this probably won't close anytime soon, this was very important to Walt, his family members said it was his favorite attraction and that it shouldn't close
The comment MADE MY DAY!
i cant stop singing the song, it gets me through hard times
me too, Tomorrow may not always be perfect, but it's there for you and it can only give what we put into it. A little effort and lots of imagination and . . well "That is what they call progress, dear"
I love it how people record rides so people can be warm relaxed at home while having the best rides at Disney, plus no lines
Granted, I've never seen a line for this ever, unless you are waiting for it to turn.
The VR stuff after the 15 min mark is really really close to the current tech available right now. Both in design an the programs. That is really kinda crazy for concepts back in 1993
Ezra Keys jump to 5 years and the graphics from the show already look dated.
@@Brand0n3500Official I mean the graphics look dated sure, but it still is rather accurate to technology we have currently. Though who knows how accurate that will be in the future
Yep! Oculus and Alexa/Google were both forecasted by CoP in 1993. Go figure.
Y'know, this technically predicted the 2010s better than Back to the Future.
18:17 Except maybe this line.
Life imitates art
For whatever reason I find myself coming back to this video every 6 months or so, this ride left that much of an impression on me, and it's been probably 15-20 years since I was there!
Taylor Clark That's great to know - thanks Taylor - I say I do the same as well
Taylor Clark Only 20? It made a big impression on me...40 years ago!
Taylor Clark I know when I first saw it when I was 7, it really amazed me. I saw it again at age 21 (three years ago) and was just as amazed. It was some serious nostalgia.
Me too.
same.
Rover! don't interrupt while Sarah's interrupting
Best line in the show
p
p
XD
Lol, favorite line.
“Rover don’t interrupt when Sarah is interrupting” I love that line
I had seen this as a kid in 1968 at Disneyland and loved it. It was like watching a movie of your past and future.
Fast forward to late September 2001 when I took my daughter to WDW. We had the trip planned before the 9-11 attack, a lot of people were afraid to travel. I didn't want the terrorists to "win" so we went anyway. I had shielded her from the tragedy, but it still weighed heavily on my heart. When they broke into the song, "there's a great big beautiful tomorrow", it took everything I had not to break into tears thinking about the future my daughter would live in. But you know, it's still true. There is a great big beautiful tomorrow. It's up to us to make it happen.
WOW you re right
walt would have reacted the same way
This ride and the Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover are some of my favorites. So relaxing.
+Josh Brinson Relaxing they are
+Josh Brinson I got scared on the part with Space Mountain!
+Josh Brinson What I love about it is that you can come out of the heat for a few minutes, cool off and rest.
Oh yeah, both entertaining and a great way to rejuvenate before you reenter the craziness of the parks.
+BethGoth15 Yes I was so got I saw buzz lighthear
Clearly the best Carousel of Progress video on youtube.
Thank you so much Tim
I just saw it yesterday at the park it was really cool
Sgtkiller8600 It's my favorite ride at WDW. Don't know why, but that much is clear.
Tim Alcoser I agree best ride ever
love. carousel. of. progress
I love this show. Normally, I don't care to even think much about technology, but when I watch this... I can't help but sit there and think about all the amazing art and design work that went into this from the "architecture" of the animatronic skeletons underneath to the beautifully done voice acting and movement combined with the uses of color. I hope attractions like this- attractions from the true heart and imagination of the great man known as Walter Elias Disney- never leave us. It would be a sad, sad day if Disney ever eliminated it's roots.
Sorry, Walt died 52 years before you made this comment
I come from year 2022 and I bring some terrible news.
The house of today had an 80’s feel, with the rugby shirt and talk of laserdisc
When I was in third grade, during the mid-1980s, the final scene of the Carousel was so modern and cutting edge. Now it's amusingly decades out of date. But I suppose as a vintage attraction little could be done to update the contents.
Nunya Fukkinbizness Yep agreed!
Personally, it might be better to just return it to it's world's fair condition, or at least relatively similar.
I always wanted to go up to the stage and pet the dog.
palmbeachman22 Well, it's good that you didn't cause the whole ride would stop :)
I wanted to go up and touch every thing... I just wanted to make sure they weren't real people.
U would trip the alarm that shuts down the ride if u did lol
TheEpicFilmMaker12 I don't doubt that at all. XD
Me too!
There's a great big beautiful tomorrow
Shining at the end of every day
There's a great big beautiful tomorrow
And tomorrow's just a dream away
Man has a dream and that's the start
He follows his dream with mind and heart
And when it becomes a reality
It's a dream come true for you and me
So there's a great big beautiful tomorrow
Shining at the end of every day
There's a great big beautiful tomorrow
Just a dream away
like if you are a fan of walt disney and all things disney

Now is the time now is the best time
Now is the best time of your life
Life is a prize live ev'ry minute
Open your eyes and watch how you win it
Yesterday's mem'ries may sparkle and gleam
Tomorrow is still but a dream
Right here and now you've got it made
The world's forward marching and you're in the parade
Now is the time now is the best time
Be it a time of joy or strife
There's so much to cheer for
Be glad you're here
For it's the best time of your life
Everything Disney except Frozen.
"Now it takes me only 5 hours to do the wash."
Well, if you're using those new LG or Samsung washers. It pretty must still takes you that long to do laundry today!
yeah pretty much. Putting the laundry in, setting it, takes about an hour, but five hours later you realize that it's oddly silent and remember "OH FUCK MY LAUNDRY!"
Grandpa's voice at the end is the original Carousel of Progress Dad voice.
Moosetta I did not know that - Thank you
Rex Allen
The exhibit after the last one, of course, features the family toiling away in the mines for their Martian overlords and eating Soylent Green. They still sing "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" though!
And the part after that: a post-apocalyptic world, where the family is now nothing but bones, and yet they can still talk
Lmfao!!
All hail the robot uprising!
Ladies and gentlemen. Boys and girls. Walt Disney's, personal, favourite attraction.
I just saw a behind the scenes thing on this and Walt took great pride in it
I hope they add a part for the 90s and early 2000s, that would be pretty cool. I will most likely never be able to go here because it is much too far away and I can't afford it. I am so grateful that I can watch the rides on UA-cam and that way I feel like I'm really there. My Dad passed away in 1994 when I was a little kid, he always wanted to take me to Disney but sadly we couldn't make it.
That's so sad. I hope you live a happy rest of your life!
+BlueXCross Thank you so much and you too 👍☺
The end is supposed to be like 2000-2016
+Alex Culbreth actually they mention laserdiscs - DVD came out in 1999 so that time frame is likely earlier maybe 1990-2000
+BigFatPanda wow
This will forever be my favorite Ride at Walt Disney World! #Classic
Mary Beth Norris It definitely is a classic
I hear that, I think walt really constructed a real good one upon some.
Mary Beth Norris where is it at Disney
I'm happy that Walt created this - for our enjoyment. :)
I love the daughter's comment : Don't tell us you didn't have a car phone!
LOL
BigFatPanda
I love the Dad. He says to his son," You put that viewmaster away before you wreck my marriage."
Lee Kee when does he say that
Have you seen "A Christmas Story"? The narrator of the movie (adult Ralphie) is the dad in this show!
That's where I heard that voice before!!! Thank you!! It was bugging me so much. :D
Really
The voice of the adult Ralphie was radio personality Jean Shepard, upon who's memoir A Christmas Story is based.
You 'll shoot your eye out kid.
Ho Ho Hooooooooo.
Nooooooooooooooooooooouuuuuuuuuugh.
Thank you Uncle Scrooge (and I don't mean the duck)!
I remember the original exhibit at the World's Fair in 1964. I was on a class trip and the name of the attraction was "General Electric Progressland".
General Electric has sponsored it
I love this attraction. It's so quintessentially Disney.
20:07 THE SALT SHAKER IN THE BOTTOM LEFT IS A HIDDEN MICKEY
I hope they never get rid of this attraction....
me too
Same. It's a special gem in the parks that's definitely underrated.
Dianna Anderson me too it’s an icon
It's also Disney legacy because it one of the attractions that change Disneyland forever (it's a small world , great moments with Mr . Lincoln ) (sorry magic skyway) .
really it just needs some tlc otherwise it's a great attraction
AHHHHHHHH MY FAVORITE RIDE
Same
same
My favorite too
I was fortunate enough to get to see this the last yr it was still at Disneyland back in 1973. I was only 4 yrs old and it was the primary memory (along with the "City of the Future" model), that I always had of that visit. It was replaced by "America Sings" the following yr in the lead up to Americas bicentennial celebration in 1976. I sincerely believed I'd never get see it again, but in 1996 my family got stationed in the Tampa FL area for 2 yrs. I was fortunate enough to get to take my young daughters to Disneyworld and they got to see it with me. I later went again with just my husband. It was his 1st time seeing it despite also growing up in Southern California when it was still at Disneyland. I was so happy and grateful to get to experience such a stand out memory from my early childhood again 22 yrs later. And now I have the pleasure of getting to see it on UA-cam. Not the same as live, but very nastalgic nonetheless.
This one of my ALL-TIME favorite attractions at Disney :)
Bill A Awesome!
Dayum Grandma's got game. lol "Take that you nincompoop"
+moviechic07 I love the final act! Video games are fun!
+moviechic07 9:13 no matter how many times I've been to this attraction, I always feel like she's goint to say "I just smoked those sons of bitches", lol
+Rodrigo Ele You mean 19:30 right?
Siena H neither =P 19:13
The plastic chick in the pink sweater is hot!
Thank you for posting this gem. It is Mr. Walt Disney. His creation.
Missing Disney during COVID - so I'm taking a few "virtual rides"..... makes me a little happier.... because - "there's a great big beautiful tomorrow"...... :)
I remember this being one of my favorite attractions when I was little and it still is. Its funny that he burns the Turkey.
:)
Rover is so cute!
I Love that the dog lives forever LOL
From what I read, Walt wanted to show what the family would be like and doing during each decade. It’s confusing because it’s the same family each time.
it's crazy, back when i first saw this in the late 90s that last scene seemed so futuristic, so impossible. now in the modern day world it's pretty much just like that, right down to motion control, voice commands, and even virtual reality which is coming in the next year or two. who woulda thought disney would be right on the money.
i actually wouldn't be surprised if the advancements in technology were inspired from this very show.
Fun Fact = Uncle Orville Is Voice By MEL BLANC
Maybe the future scene should have the mom running the house with Siri and that's why it malfunctions- then the daughter could say that was back before we had "smart phones" instead of "car phones" LOL
This is one of those attractions that really is best off without an update. :D It's a history lesson in a way, in more ways than one. Pretty funny that we have a lot of the stuff by now that the Christmas room goes on about, virtual reality included. But that's the charm of it.
I agree lol, this attraction makes me feel like I'm taking History class at Walt Disney World
wrauscher1 If Disney made classes where their attractions played an integral part of their teaching, it'd be the best school ever. XD
+PixarShark Yeah it would lol and everyone would get straight A's lol
Give 'em time, I'm sure they'll get there eventually. XD
PixarShark When they get there, I'm moving out of North Carolina to Orlando, Florida lol
I 1st saw this attraction as a kid at the World's Fair in 1964....loved it then and as a adult during visits to DL & WDW.. Thanks for posting this video...it brought back wonderful memories.
I loved this attraction!! I cant believe that after all these years I still remember every word to the song!
it sticks with you - Those Sherman Brothers knew how to make a song
“I predict the day when millions of people will learn Latin and Greek sitting in front of their TV sets.”
Me in 2020: 👁👄👁
That Line isn't that far off these days.🙂
That's when they play the music from Make Mine Music's "Two Silhouettes" from 1946!
Would have been interesting what the 1960's worlds fair future scene looked like.
Right, I'm kinda wondering the same thing
Or at least something close to it, just with the GE reference she removed.
Same as Disneyland’s just without the Epcot model
The original did end in the 60s....this was massively updated. Mid century modern was the last section. Up until the last it was if I where a child again.
I saw the original at the New York World's Fair in 1965 with my parents when I was 10 years old. I'm glad they kept the song.
Got to see the original at the 1965 Worlds Fair. Always loved this.
If they were ever gonna make a movie out of this, I could see Tom Hanks playing the dad.
The best video of this attraction I've seen that was not produced by Disney. The only problem with the attraction is that the final scene is getting really dated (again). In the original each scene moved ahead about 20 years. Now there is about 50 years between the Halloween and Christmas scene. I really wish they could add some scenes to encompass the 60's/70's and the 80's/90's as well as into today. I just don't know how they can without major changes that could ruin this classic attraction.
I agree and disagree with you. I agree that they should add something from the 60's/70's and 80's/90's, but they do not have the room for that on the ride. Honestly, the 50 year difference doesn't bother me! I think that it was almost like 1990 or 2000 that they tried to do, because they mention car phones lol! :)
I think the last time the final scene was updated was back in the early to mid 90's, as I said it's really getting dated. The first time I rode this attraction was in the early 80's when "Now is the Time" had replaced "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" as the them song. Then the jump ahead wasn't so bad but it is really noticeable today.I also wish they could update "The American Adventure" to encompass more of the history post-WWII. That might be more doable.
Alexandria Clink They could change the Carousel of Progress to show the 60s, 70s, and 80s act 4 versions, and an updated final scene to show what 2030 might look like. The current final scene is what the 1990s thought the 21st century would look like.
@@MarySue1964 :eyeroll: But then they will have to update "Great Big.." and replace Rex Allen's vocal track (hoepfully, they won't DO that..I live in Calif.where the original was till 1973..)
@@LillyoftheAllie The warm, folksy Rex Allen vie and Shermans score would be out of plae b 80s and 90s, I especially love seeing the pre-1960s families..
Best ride ever!!!! Why do I love this ride so much🤣🤣🤣🤣
One of my Walt Disney World favourites. I absolutely love this attraction. It's a must whenever we are at WDW. Thanks for sharing.
nd my Disneyland one..glad it stayed at least till 1973....and 2015's Tomorrowland was amde, and it broguht that song back to DL for a while..and we have the video here (like Rick Davis says above).
lol now there really is VR for our phones and gaming systems
This was one of my favorite rides growing up, still is now. My friends and other family members, don't like it that much and think it's boring, but I still think it's fascinating. I hope Disney keeps the COP, it really is a good ride. This ride is one of the reasons why I look forward too getting on, when at Disney world. Many good feelings, when on that ride, will always be one of my favorites.
I was the same way still am. I loved this ride but my family and friends really didn't care for it
bring this back to disneyland!
Imagine been woke up in the middle of the night by this song , go down to your living room and find this guy with his dog singing it ! Wouldn't that be fun ?
The song makes the ride more exciting for me to watch! :)
The voice of the Grandfather in the last scene is the voice of the main character from the Original general Electric Pavillion and the Disney land version of this ride
I remember this as a little kid at the Worlds Fair in NYC. A few other rides at the Fair wound up in Disney.
2018 is a great beautiful tomorrow for Progress.
That was my "nap time" ride! Lol!
Evamarie Masini i dont know how you can nap with those freaky animatronics
Absolutely love the quality! And as in the words of the grandmother in the last scene "Feels like I'm really there!" I remember going to WDW for the first time in 2009 and not really liking it a whole lot. But between the two trips me and my family have been on, I learned more about the history about the ride, and got really interested. I remember begging my parents to go on it as soon we got off of the newly refurbished Space Mountain. Thank you for the amazing quality, and also I just remembered that it's 50 years old today as well... But thank you! :D
Thank YOU - HUGS
(^o^)kittykatmeow2224
I love how it is called Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress... I hope it never changes and I hope this attraction is never removed. It was one of Walt's last impressions in the park. :)
Natalie Herndon it's the only thing he did that's in this park
It could use an update for the last scene though (or at least bringing it back to it’s 1962 condition.
do you remember that TV show where you see walt singing along with the shermans?
I absolutely love the way I can reminisce about the old rides, from when I was a little kid. I can go to Disneyland or world anytime I want to. Right on my phone. Thank you Mr Disney , and all of modern technology.
Finally, the last scene had Dad getting off his ass for once. Also, can I have a dog that lives as long as I do? Tell us your secrets, Walt!
Thank you for this wonderful memory! This was my favorite Disneyland ride that I once rode 8 times straight when I was growing up in California! Your high quality video is so amazing, it's like I'm sitting with the audience! THANK YOU FOR THIS LOVING MEMORY!! 😎
Before this song "there's a great big beautiful tomorrow", I remember in the early 90s there was a different song. I don't remember all the lyrics but the song went "now is the time, now is the time, now is the best time of your life."
I love riding this ride at tomorrowland at Disney's magic kingdom it is awesome. I wish I can go back soon.
5:44 having a cold one with the boys
that is great thank u Walt Disney
6:46 Ahhhh yes, I remember getting stuck in this and having to watch this part again for about 3 times
God this is my favorite nostalgic ride. I can’t wait to see it again.
This just made my day. Literally crying as my watch this :) one of my favorite things at MK
"Go down and meet the boys for a sarsaparilla... Oh! I almost forgot- "root beer". We're drinkin' root beer these days... Same thing, different name... Well, that's progress for ya!" ROFL HAHAHA I LOVE THAT. X'D
I love the Carousel of Progress! When I was at Disney World, when I was younger, my brother and I went on it six or seven times in a row. I think the people running the attraction were surprised or sick of seeing us so many times. Lol.
It was a nice relaxing attraction - still is but I would love an update
hey its definitely a great way to get out of that heat.
the cast member operating the alice dark ride in disneyland told me I m not from this planet (for riding it billions timess in a row every night near closing time when there was nobody else left
I take it as the biggest compliment ever
Disney world gives me Goosebumps cause the machines are just so amazing
This is like the immortal family they live from the 1800's to today. Also, is the remix of the song at the end new? i don't remember hearing that before
It's a different generation of the family every time
Except it's the exact same dog, which is hilarious.
Nuggetlover96 no the remix at the end is not new But it is the BEST haha. It was always my favorite version of the song from when I was a toddler. I wish I could get a full studio version of that part.
BlueXCross New generation?
With the same names tho?
Is it? I always thought they stretched the realism a bit to show the same dad over a span of about 100 years.
Does not get any better than this.
This ride is pretty relaxing so sometimes you can't help taking a little snooze
Love Disney 💛 beautiful ✨thank you✨
"Don't interrupt while Sarah's interrupting" anyone get that that's a reference to the tiki room?
john erikson Huh? How?
What? How?
hey you re right
@@m2ribel277 Jose to one of the other parrots:"Don't talk while I;m interuppting".
@Cyber Del good news, i found out ^
I love this ride I hope it s on forever
It's a classic for sure
Saw this attraction as a kid in the 80's at Disney World.... 🎶 Now is the time, now is the best time, now is the best time, of your life!! 🎶🎶
A terrific job of the Carousel of Progress. I saw this on opening day in 1964 at the NY World's Fair and fell in love with the concept. I prefer the original script and Rex Allens' voice over Andrew Duggans' but the old show from 50 years ago can no longer be seen. Thanks for sharing. Sadly, WDW speaks of demolishing this tribute to Walt and the Fair.
Mike Shulman Thank you Mike - with the new Tomorrowland movie showcasing it a bit maybe it has a chance of surviving. I know guest attendance is not huge at this attraction.
Mike Shulman I did a search and cannot find anything on Carousel of Progress being demolished. Disneyland has announced they are closing Innoventions which is in their old CofP building but I can find nothing on the WDW version being closed. They did a refurbishment on it late last year.
omg i could never take 5 hours to do a single load of laundry.......that's crazy!!!!
Same, fam
Same! And i thought i spent so much time on chores nowadays :O
This was shot amazingly! Such great quality :) Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for a look back at yet another one of my all time fav rides
This has always been one of my favorites. I have to see it every time I visit Disney World.
One of my all time favorite rides!! Great job with the seamless editing Panda!! I felt like I was actually on the ride!
Just a note, the CoP is celebrating it's 40th Anniversary at WDW.
Keith Dean This is true - thank you
I LOVE THIS!!! One of My FAVORITE at Disney World.
I LOVE this attraction. I only wish it was at Disneyland too. I'm so happy this is on UA-cam.
I always love tuning into your videos, not only are they greatly shot and it makes me feel like I'm actually there, but you are also active in the comments. Thank you so much for the videos I really enjoy them!
NOSTALGIA
Tyler G very much so
Kinda seemed like an ad for bullshit *shrugs*
I watched this show twice when I went to Disneyworld with my family. The last time I saw this show was when I was 15 years old. I'm now 21. I haven't been to Disneyworld since 2007. I'm hoping to go back there real soon. I miss it!
Me and my family are on our second day in Orlando, Florida! and we saw this today and it’s probably the best thing I’ve ever seen 💖
This was an element and a statue of the future for me as a child. Would love to see this again for my children again. I know it was shut down due to fatalities - but to have this kind of genre for future generations would be a lesson that children might listen to. I know I did. It is something iconic and in the voice of giving back from the past would welcome a breath of fresh air. A punch from the past is what this era needs! Violence these days is horrible-I would welcome uplifting jest from those of Disney to give an extra boost of hope and tranquility.
Mike Strawn This was not shut down due to fatalities - actually, it is still in operation today. I believe you are referring to an older version in Disneyland which was not the same attraction. I think it was called America Sings or something like that - another rotating theatre in which there was 1 death.
BigFatPanda This one is in Disney World in Florida FYI
BigFatPanda Thank you-I was referring to the Cali version. There was a death of a female caught between the chambers. I just wish things could go back the way they were. It is not in operation here-it has been gone for years.
Big tomorrow
You did a fantastic job with this video! thanks for posting.
Thank you so much Bobs
lol, My favorite Disney attraction. I go several times on every trip and make everyone else go with me. It's a great big beautiful tomorrow!
I've been there 3 times and I love it! Thanks for sharing!
they look so real omg
Maya Jones Imagine they were? That would be sick!
We always visit C o P when we visit MK. Usually "ride" it 2 or 3 times. Nice place to escape the hot sun and have a rest (with shoes off for a while LOL) Thanks for sharing this it is a very well done production.
David Potter I agree with you David
One of my favorites from our trips to Disney World!
I absolutely love this show! Thanks Panda for all the great content!!
