    yeah, on the carb, the low and high air mix screws are adjustable with the correct driver. you can pick up a nice set for like 15 bucks on Amazon.

    All you need to do is to fix the wires and then tune the carb by increasing the idle speed then turn the low idle adjustment till it runs. then find where the highest idle speed in the low screw (the sweet spot) then turn it left 1/4 to 1/2 turn. then lower your idle speed screw till the chain stops moving. and then go to the high idle speed adjustment and turn it right in 1/4 turn steps until it doesn't bog and has good response to throttle (if its necessary). if you don't get it just look up a video.

    I got one of those from my dad that had very few hours on it. I dribbled fuel into the carb and it fired up ran wide open until it burned all the fuel. I thought the needle and seat was stuck so I cleaned and rebuilt the carb. Then it would start but screamed wide open. That is when I noticed the plastic piece that the carb mounts to was loose. I pulled the screws out and the gasket behind it was nearly gone.it was sucking air. Looking into it this is extremely common not only with the homelite but John Deere that is almost just like it. They no longer make this gasket. You have to get NOS and they want almost as much as the saw is worth.

    • @GreenThumbEngines
      @GreenThumbEngines  Рік тому

      damn. at least it started. and yeah that sucks, since this machine is old, might as well get a brand new updated one. because parts for this homelite chainsaw is scarce. you are barely going to find the exact parts needed for this saw. which sucks. because this chainsaw is built pretty damn well. but cool to hear your story. made my day.

    Got the same chainsaw for $20 bucks, can't get it running. Replaced fuel lines, fuel filter ,cleaned carb, fresh 40:1 fuel. Checked for spark. Maybe i just need a whole new carb? Wasn't clear at the end when u had it running if that was the case or not? If replacing the carb was the solution? Was it?

    • @GreenThumbEngines
      @GreenThumbEngines  4 роки тому +1

      Well. Does it turn on at least? If it turns on and shuts back off after doing all that, you might just need a new carburetor and it will crank on and stay on. That’s what happened with mine like you asked. All it needed was a new carburetor.

      I cant remember if i got a new carburetor or not. I think i did. but I think in the video, it had the original carb on it and i was trying to tune it up ---- The way i took the carb off was by taking off the black cover on top. i think it has 3 screws. then I unplugged the spark plug boot, and took off the air filter and then the fuel lines and carburetor. If i didnt show it in the video, looks like im going to have to make a video step by step on how to do it. Is that what you need, a carburetor?

    I'm having trouble w/ a small Homelite chainsaw. Starts easy, but only runs on full choke & barely cracked open choke. Fixed a few things: new primer bulb, cleaned spark arrester, checked carb; its clean, blew out fuel filter w/ compressed air; same crap. Any ideas? Thanks

    • @GreenThumbEngines
      @GreenThumbEngines  5 років тому

      sounds interesting. I would disassemble everything and pull off the head and see how the top of the piston looks and scrape it to bare metal if it looks black and dry. Same with the head. Inside, it might be black and dry, or black and wet.

    • @GreenThumbEngines
      @GreenThumbEngines  5 років тому

      Also would feel the cylinder wall to see if it’s smooth and if the piston is cracked or dented possibly

    • @GreenThumbEngines
      @GreenThumbEngines  5 років тому

      Or maybe you can try messing with the carburetor screws and use a carburetor tuning tool to tune it to stay on with the choke off. It’ll take some patience long as you crank it on and start tuning it while listening to how it sounds as you’re turning or rotating the screws. Take it off choke while you’re doing that to get it all sounding and running good in idle and on the throttle too.

    All you need to do is to replace the bottom diaphragm in the carburator . 10 dollars for ten diaphragm on amazon. It will last for a year then redo it next year

    • @GreenThumbEngines
      @GreenThumbEngines  2 роки тому

      That is true. I actually have some links in the description of the video for parts to this chainsaw. But to fix this problem, you just simply buy a new carburetor kit, then you won't have to tune it like I did, and you won't need to replace the diaphragm either. The carburetor kit comes with everything equipped to be installed right out the box. That's like the biggest lifesaver in the world. It should be in the description for anyone that needs a carburetor to this exact machine.
