It’s only Chapter 1, but we already have some dark implications and themes arising from Black Myth’s story. 👀 Who is ~actually~ helping the Destined One? What does it mean to be morally good? Did Bodhisattva Guanyin plan all of this from the start? Let me know your thoughts! :3
my guess is Guanyin disguise as ElderMonkee, Guanyin have power to put circlet or release on Destinied One on ending if not would be Bodhisattva Maitreya

@@EmpressXV I just finished chapter 1 and watched your video! It was SUUPER helpful, thank you so much! Looking forward to the next ones! On my pace, perhaps the next will be released before I finish chapter 2 :)
I'm glad you made a longer video, even though I was born watching the Journey to the West 1986 series and also read and watched a lot of videos explaining the game, I still learned a lot from your video. This is what is interesting about Black Myth: Wukong, it's so complex but I still appreciate the novel and expand from it. It takes courage, a lot of thought, and crazy scriptwriting. It's a chef's kiss on another level for whoever understands this masterpiece. Truly.
another amazing video as always. At the start of the game I was also intrigued by many bosses/npcs saying "another monkey..." but then I realized they weren't just refering to wukong himself but other destined ones that came through this cicle of life and death, I admit i should've picked this up from the start but when I finally did it was a very cool moment "oh so much makes sense now!"
Thank you so much! The game has a lot of little touches, so completely reasonable for us to notice things later. I definitely realized more stuff on the second playthrough versus the first, when I was just trying not to die LOL
Wow, best video ive seen on black myth lore so far. Geat job. Such an enchantment of my playthrough. I was feeling like I was missing something. This fills the gap of my ignorance. Thank you so much
Yayyyy finally I’ve been waiting for this banger to drop! Instead of my typical dinner and movie, it’s gone be dinner with this video 😍. I’m on new game plus chapter 3 at the moment. Very very curious to hear your explanation of the dragon boss fight specifically the one before we meet zhu bajie. Then again I’m curious to hear all your breakdowns most notably the end cutscene from chapter 4 5 and 6
Haha, I'm honored to be selected as the dinner video pairing! 🤭 And yes, will be covering all the chapters. Which one is your favorite chapter so far? Three was soooo loooooong
@@EmpressXV ooo that’s difficult, 3 definitely was the longest! Kinda got fed up how every time I turned a corner there was two to three more paths to explore 😂💀. I’d say even though I liked exploring chapter 5 more than 4, chapter 4 was both funny interesting, emotional plus some really great boss fights. The final loong boss fight, the scorpion, and of course getting to fight Zhu Bajie for a laugh was fun. I think he’s probably my favourite character in the whole game. Very funny, very flawed and honestly pulled on my heart strings with his little speech before we pick up the Jing u Ban in chapter 6 or his entire story in chapter 4 etc. his imitation of Wukong was kinda sad as you could feel the pain mixed with suppressed loyalty in his voice. You did a Beautiful job with this video again. I really like that you start the video with the full animation but you exposing it poetically as it plays. It helped clarify thing I had to guess about before and made those scenes Carry more depth for me now.
Wow you really weren't kidding about the longer videos 😂 but it's okay, we love it! Thanks for another amazing breakdown. Also really enjoyed the narrating of the animation ❤
Great breakdown of the first chapter. I don't envy you for the next one as it's very long! There has been a DLC announced and I'm hoping we get Guan Yin in it to explain what her role was regarding the headband.
Thank youuu! And you're right, Ch. 2 has so many side stories going on. >_< But Ch. 3 might take my voice out haha. I hope Game Science takes their time with DLC to make it great, but I also selfishly can't wait. I need confirmed answers!
Thanks for the vids! most other lore vids don't go through enough lore that I'm looking for. This covers much more of what I wanted to hear, tangents and all. I'll be following along the future chapters 😊
I dont know how I stumbled onto your channel, but thank you for doing this series! My wife is from China and I think we're going to have a blast with your analysis!
I originally didn't pay much attention to the character portraits till much later, and I certainly didn't pay attention to the dialogue as I was busy fighting for my life. 🤣 That said, the game definitely delivered on the greyness of the story since it was first hinted in the initial trailer. I found it was that much more apparent in later chapters of the game, with one even made me think 'you REALLY want to make me look like a jerk, don't you, game?' Chapter 1 is already deep, and I am happy to see you take the time to dissect this. I see chapter 2 to be even longer considering all the different parts involved.
Thank you for making these videos, they are excellent and I look forward to each one. I would have missed all details and cultural references if not for your wonderful explanations.

huo yan jin jing is actually an eye disease he got from getting burned in the furnace. it gave wukong special abilities to see through transformations deceptions however they r susceptible of smoke and wind. both yellow wind guai and the red boy were able to blind him in battle
I think Guanyin is ambiguous, perhaps on purpose. Like you said, only Guanyin and Jinchanzi knew of the incantation, meaning it could only be them. Another theory I have is that maybe the Buddha himself is playing a part in the game (hence why Rakshasi tried to assassinate him before losing heart), and that maybe Guanyin acted on his behalf. In any case, I expect a DLC or sequel to address it, seeing the true ending is not really tending towards a peaceful resolution lol.
Recording this video made me realize how little I actually speak out loud in a day. I was hoarse LOL. 😅 But thank you so much and yissss, more chapters coming!
You look like one of those spider ladies in chapter 4. Got my eyes stuck on you for the whole 52 minutes could barely pay attention to what you were saying. Empress I’m impressed! 😤
It's so amazing that you've been inspired to read the book! Definitely no pressure though, since it is very long and English translations aren't perfect, but it is super cool that this game is encouraging so much interest in Chinese myths 🥳
High key was considering doing these videos out of order and starting with Chapter 4, because I love romance stories and I have a lot to say about it. But alas, I love being organized and had to go in order. 😅
I'm on NG+ so not really dying, since this is our "overpowered" cycle, haha. First playthrough, I mainly died a lot to Tiger Vanguard, Cyan Loong and the Duskveil. 😭 How about you?
@@EmpressXV yeah NG+ is a breeze compared to first playthrough 🤣, the hardest one for me was definitely the Bishui Beast, even Duskveil's phase 2 felt easy compared to the beast 🥲 (i struggled with the bosses u mentioned too)
What's your take on Guanyin's answer to Black Wind? Unless there was a meaning change with the translation I don't think he got an answer to his question.
She did provide an answer! However, she gave it in a somewhat roundabout style that's commonly used in Chinese. Kasayas are robes worn by fully ordained Buddhist monks, so the garment can be seen as a symbol of their religion and commitment to it tenets. In Buddhism, one of the key principles is you have to get rid of attachments (such as desires for physical items 👀) because attachments cause suffering (🔥) -- which ultimately keeps you from enlightenment and stuck in the wheel of reincarnation. So Guanyin's response is saying that Jinchi felt he had to have that kasaya because it would show everyone that he was successful in cutting off his attachments. Especially as the abbot of the temple, others would expect the head of the monastery to be a shining example of the faith, right? But this is woefully misguideded, because wanting the kasaya directly contradicts Buddhist teachings. So this means, he never actually severed his attachments and achieved the enlightenment expected of his station. And if he never actually cut off these ties to the material world, he was never going to be able to let go of that kasaya anyway.
@@EmpressXV That would be true if only the Kasaya of Everspark was being discussed but both in game and in the original novel he had already gone on the materialistic path of accumulating many fine Kasayas. Seems to me more like he compromised on his virtues and in a way that would have been very obvious to his disciples, and I think it's quite the oversight that his wardrobe wasn't mentioned in the outro so I thought maybe it may have been lost in translation. Appreciate the well thought out reply, though.
@@jshtng78 I see what you're saying. I think the Kasaya of Eversparks is a special case because it was a gift from Buddha/Guanyin, so clinging onto this one specifically is symbolically a bigger deal and it's the only one (as far as we know) that he was willing to kill for (another huge Buddhist no-no that the Tang Monk was known to be FIRMLY against). In the novel, Jinchi is a more one-dimensional / straightforwardly covetous person. But in the game's animation, he actually wears a really plain kasaya in the scene where Tang Sanzang is handing his Kasaya of Eversparks over. This would initially suggest that perhaps he had overcome his materialistic ways. But as we know, seeing the Tang Monk's robe brought this vice right back out. And in both the novel and the book, Guangzhi and Guangmou were his co-conspirators; the game presents them as his two closest disciples, so I can only guess perhaps all the other monks may either not have known what their leader was really like or had vices of their own. That being said, I definitely feel like the ending convo between Guanyin and the Black Bear was unsatisfying. It definitely could have been tied up better.
Just like the story you r the stir of the ripple...I once question the beggining but listening has answered now whirlwinds choice where to land..show favor to the teachings of the "soil," gods.
