All you that are complaining about props and clothing not fitting the time line obviously don't know how independent movies are made. I'll fill you in, with passion and no money. Use just a tiny bit of the imagination that took to make this and wallah, no complaints just thanks.

Here's another gem that's not yet received nearly enough views that could easily be fleshed out into a feature length film, and might even do much better as a television/web series that would easily draw serious advert dollars for production costs. Good show and break a leg!

I really liked liked this one! Watching this film I never would have guessed it was done by high schoolers! I thought it was a hoot where he ended up, not sure where he started though. Yes, there can be improvements, but show me one, even one professional film that can't use improvements. Give these kids their claps 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 and awards!!! They are well deserved!

    Three curiosities:
    1) First license ends with letters "VYU"
    2) Second plate ends with letters "VAA"
    3) Critical note in movie has date of "07-29-2234"
If date converted to similar plate format the 729-VCD
    1) 360-VYU (Establishes a circular loop of time with 360)
    2) 135-VAA
    3) 729-VCD (Just prior to the end of a second 365 day loop with 729)
I could do wonders with this, but one I will do is as follows:
Remove the common letter "V" and use Roman numeral...
    VVV=555
The letters in the first ask "WHY YOU?"
The remaining second is 135-AA and responds with "ME? ACE! ACE!"
The remaining letters in the last give up and "CEDE".
YU: First "Y" (why) shortened phonetically to letter "W"
VAA: Temporarily recombined due to redundancy into the (VAA=24) or 24th letter "X"
CD: Last "D" (dee) stands phonetically as letter "D"
New license plate of 555-WXD but knowing my luck it would be something uncannily similar in my life. The original first numbers add up to 1224 for the eve of something. Maybe a gift is in order.

Just watched it with an open mind and in reality, it was fantastic, even the lighting (which was criticised) i say that because i felt the lighting added a sense of the hopelessness of the setting of the times, the whole time travel aspect was quite good because it presented the lead with a possible outcome better than what he currently had so all good... and i liked the simplicity of how time travel was portrayed.

Five major time periods---The first is technically the very last one which is why you don't see anything but hear the gunshot. Therefore, there are 140 charges to the box with five used in this sequence despite not necessarily seeing them used. That helps to explain the license plate beginning with the 135.

Disregarding some of the information in the summary, the major scenes seem to take place in Wisconsin or is hinted at various times...
    1) Two separate license plate views one on back and one from front with different clues as to the times and measurements as well as location and mindset. One is clearly Wisconsin.
    2) View of what appears to be an apocalyptic Milwaukee in background.
    3) Georgia Pacific logo on a cardboard box. They have nearby locations in Wisconsin.
    4) The small power (see note) towers which may be the ones in Mequon area leading up to a power station (battery in note) in Port Washington.
    5) The road view places him between towers just as that area is between Port Washington and Milwaukee. Thus far, the best view seems to be Bonniwell Rd.
    6) The note from 07-29-2234 mentions power and some of the key portions of the note are as follows:
"I am progressively becoming more and more sick. I have looked up the symptoms. Radiation (radioactive) poison."
"...become radioactive(?) almost at this point. I have yet to see pre war(power?) life. I hope to have a fruitful life this way."
"All I need is enough power."
"I have located a final piece."

    Two vehicles:
Toyota Camry: Based upon trunk design, lights and spoiler the model years can be placed circa 1997-2002. Some pictures and year listings may be incorrect, lies, or based loosely upon registration dates. Most found are of 1997-1999.
Buick LeSabre: A better view of this in the short video is afforded and front design as well as dash design looks like pictures of 1992-1996 with best pics of 1995.
Both in the video are beige/gold light in color and reflections sometimes alter somewhat making them appear silver in certain short views. However, I tend toward the original assessment and the similarity of color lends itself to the plot of the movie.

The beginning, middle and ending shooting scenes are interesting for the following reasons:
    1) The pistol appears to be held in the left hand at the beginning of first scene with a slight change at about 1:48 to 1:50 minutes where it looks like the hand changed and the scene shows the initial small tilt earlier.
    2) The scene at 11:11 to 11:13 minutes is clearly a right-handed shot with the weapon pulled from the left waist-line where it was tucked in on the outside of the t-shirt under the pants. The entire clothing is somewhat different as well with blue jeans, white t-shirt, no belt, and patches on right side shoulder of the outer button up short sleeve shirt. The shooter appears more comfortable shooting right-handed to say the least.
    3) Last scene from side angle at 16:20 to 16:39 minutes is back to left-handed, no patches on sleeve and what appears to be dark or black t-shirt and possibly loose slacks.
Identifying the weapon is extremely difficult but not impossible. There are dark brown grips, the typical serrations toward rear of slide, etc. However, a brief glimpse of reflective markings in close proximity to the slide stop pin (just barely above and forward) and beginning above the trigger guard leads to the likelihood that it is a M1911A1 U.S. ARMY .45 caliber. The markings were probably highlighted by a film editor perhaps and I don't see others.
The best view is from 11:04 to 11:13 minutes where you can determine the shape and style, the color of the grip, the basic style of the rear sight and slide, the spring cover and grip safety on rear of the grip.
When coupled with the military supplemental charge box, that particular type of weapon makes even more sense. It's just how those items were procured that is unnerving.

Steadicam rigs are cheap and even homemade to stop shakyvision. Run night shots as nightscope and no lighting problems just more tech the guy found. Obviously the car is too new to be 150 years old. And little things like the dude had a haircut and clothes that lasted for a really long time and look nice.
All in all a great job. Now show us chapter two.. continuing the dudes story.

Google "deshaker" which is free software to remove the shakiness from videos. You will find several UA-cams which show examples of the results. It can be a bit intimidating because of the numerous settings but if you persist, you will get surprisingly good results. And of course, you can't beat the price.

This short strikes directly at those having the flawed thinking that in general any potential witnesses will be confused by the similarities and only be able to focus upon a few dissimilarities. If people known among a circle of acquaintances suddenly start introducing individuals with remarkably similar styles, vehicles, clothing, etc. and then start going against those same individuals with remarks like "why do you always blame me or suspect me" etc. then it is time to see to it that pictures are taken and that they are followed. Notifying the legal authorities may not be enough as they should already be aware of it or at least suspect it and they too need to be scrutinized.

I liked the film. Impressed if truly High Schooler's. At times the shaky camera was hard to watch. I was trying to read label on box but scanned camera too fast so I could not read. What that intentional so I could not read the box? And what is a spark plug doing in a time machine? At one point I started to notice the city in the background. Not sure why I missed it in the earlier scenes. Maybe you intentionally brought it into view on later scenes. Now, at first I thought he was going into the future because of date provided, but then read a comment that said you went into past not future, which made better sense. I'll have to watch again. Oh, the black or dark scene change that everyone mentioned, their right its too long, drop it down to a second not two. That's a fast edit change.

The title with the words TEMPUS TEMPORIS has multiple meanings and plays up to and including matching the first plate letters VYU...so I'll start there.
    TEMPUS=6 letters
    TEMPORIS=8 letters
    VYU=68
    1) Time Time
    2) Time Period
    3) Time After Time (pun)
3a) Best of Times Worst of Times
    4) Time and Time Again
    5) Times Two or Two Times
    6) Contemporaneous
    7) Temporary Time (pun)
    8) Times (simple and elegant)
I prefer the license and circular July link due to the note date and the meaning of Two Times as the minimal definition as most if not all major scenes are indeed repeated and circular in nature. An example is the following:
The largest alleged year is on the note with 2234. At the end he ends up in the smallest year provided which is 2098. That is a 136 year difference or (68 x 2) years. The note itself is dated with the 07-29-2234 so that the month of July is not breached by the note. As mentioned elsewhere the word JULY=68. So, we now have the following connections to the number 68 in a very brief video...
    TEMPUS TEMPORIS=68
360-VYU=Circular time measurement ending in VYU=68
    (2234-2098)=136 or twice 68
Month on journal note is (07) JULY=68

  • @rickhanson3293

Roughly 10:09 to 11:30 minutes in a major scene takes place. The murderer is wearing an unbuttoned shirt over a dirty white t-shirt. The patch is honed in on a couple of times...
    1) Arced small patch with the word "ANARCHY".
    2) Shield patch with a chaos star symbol inside.
Both appear to be professionally made and mostly by machine. Maybe manually directed but not completely hand-made or home-made. Something to think about there.

The movie really wasn't my cup of tea, so I'm gonna write just two constructive comments: 1st) Others already wrote it: That car is still in perfect condition after 200 years? Why did you feel the need for a date at all? One of the unsettling aspects of most post-apocalyptic movies is that you can imagine them just a few years from now. Putting them this far into the future takes away much "scariness". 2nd) Why he goes to find another spark plug doesn't make any sense at all. What was the motivation: "Cool, that thing almost killed me. I have to try that again!"? ;)

The container and/or box (type of military) is perhaps important as well as to where and when it was procured and how some students acquired it. Not that having a type of device allowing time travel is not. I can identify most everything about the box including NSN, UN symbols on back, etc. The box packing location seems to have been modified to reflect a location further than the original. I will skip the NSN for right now...On back is this...
    UN---Symbol in circle for testing/certification
    4C1/Y37/S/15
    USA/DOD/AYD
    4C1---Box of natural wood
    Y---Medium danger (contents)
    37---Max. weight of 37kg (81lbs)
    S---Solids (contents)
15---Year of packing (matches video release year)
    USA---USA
    DOD---Dept. of Defense
AYD---Army Development (more to this and indicates packing location)
On front is the NSN 1320-00-824-0811 and indicates original contents to have been 140 supplementary TNT (type) charges for projectile explosives. The weight is marked as 72lbs. Happy hunting.
Here is an example picture of something similar:

Okay...Interesting premise. Definitely something to work with here. But, need to pull that camera back, stabilize it, faster focus and open it up a stop or two. Guys, get your dads or someone older than 30 to play a character or two. It'll make an amazing difference in story depth. Was this "Memento" driven? Yes, I get that time is being 'shuffled' in the delivery of the story. And yes, I get that the box is some kind of time machine. But we still need a crumb path to follow the plot line.
For a T3i and TM900, there is some pretty good chroma. Did you use a filter? Post-Production? I like the effect!
Dialog was believable. Set organization and layout pretty good. Little things, like sound of a breeze but the blanket on the crate not being moved by it. Holding spark plugs up to the light?? However, I can definitely see that you are working on your ability to tell a story with pure visualization. Nice! You guys should keep at this. The concept has potential.

I liked it. The basic equipment has undertones of the post-technological age recovering from the apocalyptic destruction (though the gun and the car were too old-school to be taken too seriously - I've seen some lovely work with repainted Nerf guns, for example). I did appreciate that his past was still our distant(ish) future. It has potential!

Regarding lighting, yes! rather dark, but I suspect a reason. I am planning a story and need information, by the way.

See. All those teenage years playing paint ball instead of getting a university degree and good job really paid off. That's what I told my mum.

I feel like the whole future time travel thing was a bit of a stretch. I don't think it really fit with the setting of the city in decay in the background. Just my opinion. Other than that, the acting was amazing and the audio and visual effects were spot on lads. Good job overall mates.

Unfortunately, filming at night definitely presents difficulties that (without appropriate lighting) is hard to counteract. Just as well, some monitors/televisions will display darks stronger depending on it's contrast ratio and panel. Thanks for the criticism nonetheless, we'll try to make the darks less strong in the future!

Fascinating story athough it took me a few minutes to become aware of it. Maybe a bit long for a short movie.Sounds just right, music at the end: I would have picked a non 4/4 beat instead of disturbed guitar sounds.Over all: food for thought so imho good job!

OK, at 7:30, I simply had to stop watching. There was no noticeable plot. I liked the music, the audio and visual effects (especially the post-apocalyptic city in the background), the cool Buick (apparently in the future, automobiles de-evolve), and the sparse acting, but I couldn't stand just watching disembodied scenes moving towards no determined climax.
Anyway, good job on the stuff I mentioned but please work on the plot in the future because that is the most critical aspect of a film.

    • @therisenfilms
      @therisenfilms  8 років тому +4

+Matt Foley I agree. The plot points were very sparsely paced when we filmed this (in the future we want to make films that are more quickly paced for entertainment purposes). However, in that point in the sequence none of the major events of the story actually occurred. Keep in mind that it's also important to watch the entirety of the film's progression!
Regardless, thanks for the feedback! We appreciate it.

+therisenfilms For a bunch of HS kids you knocked it out of the park. Today people are spoiled with simple plots, fast pace, but no heart or substance.
The name was enough to understand there was more than some kids surviving in a post apocalyptic world (Nice use of Latin). The time stamps you put in should have been enough for anyone with a brain to know something was off kilter. By 2 mins in I knew it was about time travel, but how you handled it was perfect.
