@@lukemillionmusic - You did a good job playing those complicated pieces... Also people do not realize that those analog synths have a sound all their own and if you don't play it on the original synth or really know what you are doing, its just not right. That one synth is exactly the same model he used in the old videos of the group. I saw a much later video from the 2012 or so era with him playing a new instrument... near but not the original sound for sure. Good Job. Anyone here remember this tune being in the UK charts? I was 10 at the time and I remember the single had pictures of Space Invaders on the sleeve. (I think it was released as “Theme From The Invaders” in the UK.) Possibly the first and last time a Japanese band achieved success in the UK charts. Legendary.
You paid this genius of a man real credit and more power to you for it. Didn't realise just how much Ryuichi and his music meant to me until he was gone. Fantastic tribute thank you. Not to forget Haruomi and Yukihiro (RIP). Only saw YMO live once in 1980 but I was hooked from that moment on.
@@lukemillionmusic I do. I wish I could play keyboards like you! Here's the gig I went to on UA-cam - ua-cam.com/video/mHQDUqsoO2k/v-deo.htmlsi=E-ZNlA-cRnVkIiNo at Hammersmith Odeon in London. I was 17 in 1980.
I was only watching Netflix the other day and noticed the anime I was watching was scored and preformed by Sakamoto. It was great, the man was a pioneer. Very fitting what you played Luke and as always executed excellently.
Lovely - thank you :) I only discovered YMO in the last year or so, after Teenage Engineering had a cover of Cosmic Surfin' (which I love) in one of their launch videos. Such incredible pioneering work.
I recently found your channel, Luke, and I’m blown away by your version of this YMO classic, and I’ve been loving your Disco and Eighties videos. Thank you so much!
Hi Luke, awesome! you actually reveal how much different voice/timbre/modulation and shaping go into all the different parts of that track 👏 I would love to listen to a Rydeen cover 😅❤
I was listening to Cosmic Surfin for the first time since 1986 or so and was shocked at amount of jazz funk on display... YMO were such a killer band... great cover btw!
what a bummer hes gone but what a gift that we had him for so long. i'm still really new to ymo and ryuichi but it doesn't take much to know what a big deal they still are :) great jam!
Now while know 100 I heard before trying to test my inner ears it will come to me I'm not going to rush it when you know what you know don't intervene let it come naturally why it will and than boom me can I know that yea that's it....
You should try tackling the synth parts and the ending synth riff from Starship We Built This City. Not many people have accurately tried to play the synth parts from that song, and accurate to the album at that either too. Everyone I see play We Built This City on keyboards basically just plays the notes of the song's lyrics from the song, but not the actual synth parts. Everyone accurate plays all the synth parts of stuff Van Halen's Jump, but oddly not from We Built This City. Strange considering it was of the biggest 80s hits and it was pretty synth heavy too. You'd think more people would have attempted to accurately play the synth parts from that song on youtube.
Salut Luke, Such a conundrum....for now I don't know what to do with myself! I am inspired, but, do I; grab a beer, cuddle my Wifey with such "sweet jams", or perhaps, I should head out to the local rollerskating rink and get my boogie on, and then, a nightclub is not entirely out of the question.... That music has that certain something that is greater than a mood, it awakens one, owning a superior power that shows as "far more" when compared to the "somewhat lacking" nature, that dull species of composition mostly given us these days. You know and play good music, enough said! Thank You! Cheers and CIAO!
Thanks a lot Luke! Again - cool B-Boy melody, from 1980s👍 I remember that famous electro whistle effect, that sounds in different breakdance battles. Like here, on 4:29. ua-cam.com/video/1R4OGjGnNhc/v-deo.html Oh, the original song was from late 1970s actually- 1978. Well almost 1980s🙂
You play a good man I'm a big y m o fan and kraftwerk fan I just did a remix of firecracker 🧨 when you get a chance come check it out see what you think okay man I enjoyed it have a great 👍
Please do Technopolis and Rydeen!
Love Rydeen! Probably my favourite song of YMO👍
Agreed
Just need to get the reissue of the Korg PS-3300 to do Rydeen! I think the lead on that song was played on that synth.
Rest In PWM, Ryuichi Sakamoto
This is probably one of your best covers, you captured the patches perfectly!
Thank you, I definitely spent a bit more time than usual creating the patches 😊

Wow. Beautiful tribute. Loved it!
It's a really great performance, but it was probably Haruomi Hosono who suggested that they cover Firecracker.
Even the piano part so close to the original 😎

Do you ever need a Synthy-sitter for when you are on the road?
Ha, I probably do. Need to keep those oscillators warm 😂
Yo! YMO!
Your piano work is excellent.
Did you start off on piano or another keyboard instrument?
Thank you. I started with classical piano then discovered synths 😊
@@lukemillionmusic you make your piano teacher proud
