Always enjoy all your stuff but this was really cool I liked the challenge just seemed like a really fun day on the water lots of good fish!! Thanks for fueling the addiction!👍
Wondered where the tackle shop had gone! That was fun too watch too. Someone once said to me that winter fish will eat nearly anything if presented well. The challenge will be to repeat it in other parts of the season….
Hi Alex. Much enjoyed the video. I also liked the challenge format. Too bad you're not much into fly tying, otherwise I would suggest some patterns to try, which are not likely to be available in NZ.
Epic challenge. Well fished that man! Shrimp pattern definitely looked very good in the water. Tough assignment given the conditions. Great idea. Would love to see more. Keep up the great work.
I always enjoy watching your videos and catch the big ones vicariously through you as the opportunity for me to get to New Zealand for those trophy fish is unattainable. I liked this video today as this is how I fish, I put random flies on my line and give it a go. It's good to see someone who does this for a profession do something like this, it shows you don't need to know everything about the water, the fish patterns to be successful. Other videos like this would be awesome. Thank you for your time
Just enjoyed another New Zealand Adventure with Trippin On Trout!!! Loved this on Alex because you started by showing off the Rod And Tackle shop (what a beauty) and had your mate set up a challenge for you. I hope you do more of this as we all learn from another's experiences. Also, thank you for showing the So Dope product as it's not emphasized enough. I grew up in So Cal and am paying a price for countless years of sun damage. Great camera work and beautiful fish..........Deano
That was good challenge . I wasn't sure if brown shrimp was tasty shot kept in strike zone it worked . Shrimp in fresh water small pink in U.S that'll work like a sub sandwich and a beer 🍺🍺🍺
At last thanks for the heads up on the extra tubeing size for for the indicator awsome And thanks for the shots at new shop cant wait to call in cheers Tim

Great job on the challenge, are you allowed to use soft plastics in the Taupo rivers, if so try swinging a soft plastic, could be the bomb. Cheers Mike
I'm planning on opening a shop here in Portglenone, County Antrim, Northern Ireland and seeing that shop layout has given me a few ideas as well as reinforcing a few thoughts I'd already had. Portglenone has the Bann River running straight through the middle of it so the fact there's no fishing gear shop here is, at least in my mind, bananas. Gotta have a couch, coffee available and a large screen tv with fishing vids on nonstop so people can even just come and hang at the shop. Another great vid bro, Keep'em coming!!
Wow rod and tackle are looking great last time I was in their old shop about 3 years ago service was a very low priority However they are looking great now might even try and go there again.

Definitely mate! Let me know if you are keen and I will send some of my Marc's Secret Sauce flies to you to try out. They go good in the canals and up around Taupo for clients. Let me know if you'd like a challenge or easy fish catchers. Articulated eggs, keeled stonefly nymphs, UV sparkle micro eggs. Cheers. Marc.

Stoked you enjoyed it Paul🤙 That fluffy green thing was a size 14/16 (I’m not sure exactly) and as far as I know they don’t come barbless which is a shame
@@paulcarter5731 That’s a good point you raise - most people I talk to about it feel that they need a barb to not lose fish or don’t really care about the consequences of fishing with barbs. At least that how it seems to me🤷♂️
Fun, thanks! We'll take your word that Gian accepted small fish counted (for you; huge for me). One drawback of catch-and-release is not knowing what the fish are actually eating. Are you ever able to sample their gut contents?
I think there is a device you can use to look at stomach contents from a live fish but that’s not something I ever want to do to a fish. Fish rarely key into one specific thing here and tend to be quite opportunistic so it’s more about a good presentation than an exact pattern
@@TrippinOnTrout have you ever tried for sea runs? Around these parts they grow larger than stationary trout generally. Wonder if it's the same in NZ... Could be some real beasts out there.

Hi, I think you miss the geography of the fisheries. Lake Taupo is a crater lake and in area is the size of Singapore Island, it has a catchment area of 3,500 sq km. the Rainbow trout are the descendent of the Pacific steelheads and have accustomed themselves to treating the lake as their biological sea home. These trout are all wild trout and run up the rivers that feed the lake to spawn. So actually they are very similar in the way the North Pacific trout behave when they run the Asian and North American rivers. We do have sea run trout that we fish for in both islands and we target these when we can, but the spots for these are not that well known, just as well. Look up the comparison of the trout and salmon species available to you in Scandinavia and the species of fish available to us in the Pacific and you will see why a lot of your countrymen journey around to this side of the world to experience some of the best angling experience in the world. Thats what I did 50 years ago, and stayed! Cheers mate. Harera
@@pierevojzola9737 aye bro I've read up on all this stuff and when it comes to trout NZ is world class, I don't think anyone questions it. The difference however is the abundance of food in the ocean compared to a lake regardless of size. We have a very large lake in Sweden aswell (Lake Vänern, 10 times larger than Lake Taupo) that I live right next by that hold both salmon and trout that are purely freshwater like the trout of Lake Taupo, and even if they grow large, the sea run specimen grow even larger.
