Great photos I'm 62 now first went to AC when I was 20 years old 1981 I married my better half we have 4 grandkids so far I taking my whole family next March 8 adults 4 grandkids be at wild orchard resort got lots of family living around AC, great memories good music 😊
Yes I first found Angeles city in 1983 and what a place it was, its changed so so much over the years but fond memories abound. One of the great ones was sitting in a bar along perimeter road and watching those magnificent jets taking off at night, absolutely amazing with the flames pouring out of the engine(s) . Back then Angeles City had the nickname “. the dust bowl “ as a lot of the roads were dust in the dry and muddy in the wet season.
My first visit was 1993, and I still yearn for the simpler life back then. Angeles City is too hectic, complicated, expensive and crowded nowadays. I'm still living here, but enough is enough, going to be leaving soon, the party is over...... and it will never be the same again.
As soon as I just saw your post I went downstairs and found my photos of earthquake mcgoons. Was at Clark on a TDY from Mchord AFB in 1985 . I recognized and found a few other photos I still have from back then, the Roxy, The green door etc. damn I’ll be 62 in may. Where has the time gone?
Great video brings back crazy memories of when I was a young military man stationed in Okinawa Japan. I visited Angeles City a couple of times and to this day was the time of my life. The Hotsie Totsie was one of my favorites I even have a shirt from that bar. Thanks for the excellent video Wayne 👍🏾👍🏾
I was there from 84 until Pinatubo. Some of you may have seen my handiwork on many, many bathroom walls. "Zeus was Here". Had a lot of good times here!! Holla.
First visit was in 1984 as a young Aussie digger on leave, after many years of returning and bar hopping, finally got married in PI in 1991(still serving). Still go back to AC but things keep changing, nothing like the good old days.
What a fantastic collection of photo's to evoke fond memories. I didn't visit AC until an American in Pattaya spoke of it and advised me to go immediately, as I only had 10 days left of a 3 month holiday. This was May '09 and I've enjoyed 4 subsequent visits. The bar/restaurant at 6:42 used to serve the best food in AC particularly breakfast, which was to die for. I was devastated when I returned after a 4 year absence to find it raised to the ground. The bar at 8:02 is I think the bar about 200+ yards before you get to Walking Street and not the one of the same name opposite The Wild Orchid Resort, which I think is now closed anyway. Besides The Wild Orchid my go-to hotel is The Pacific Breeze. I used to prefer the original Central Park Inn to its far more costly replacement.
Excellent compilation of pics from the old days I actually noticed a sign saying local drinks 5 pesos. I was always at Subic and not Angeles so this was really great to watch. I didn't realize that Kokomos was there even before the road was paved, and Lanie's Hangout has also been around for a long time.
This may be the best collection of Balibago bar history ever, going back over 60 years according to my 78yo grand dad. He told me to tell you that somebody spent as much time on "Blow Row" as he did. Thank you for making his day.
I've only been in AC since 1999 but it has changed a lot with small bars closing and large condos being built. It was through this picture that I first learned that the Niagara Bar and the Black Pearl are historical relics, I was a customer there.
Most of the bars shown were no longer there when I visited in 1984, but a I recognized a few. Third Eye, Flying Machine, Casablanca, and Murphy's Rock Joint.
OMG the Owls nest had a many good times in that place. Any you guys remember the King Row Hotel? I had some wonderful days at Clark AB. Have traveled there for many years on pleasure and business since. Thanks for sharing some great memories. Peace!
Magic Moments was there until late 2007. On my first trip there it was my favorite afternoon bar. By my second trip in January 2008 it was gone and the new Crazy Horse Saloon was built on the spot. Now it's called Pony Tails and I still hold a grudge against it because I liked magic Moments so much. Mommy Daisy from magic Moments went to Emotions after that and is still there.
Nips Hut , now that’s a place no one can forget! Miss those days! Gotta say, AC looked more inviting at night! All my years there and I think I partied during the day twice...
wo ! a blast from the past ! was out there in Angeles city in 1986 way before the volcano eruption in the 90's I believe , spent a lot of good times there at some of the bars Dmz, etc. what memories Red Horse days !
Thanks for posting these pictures. I was stationed at Clark AB in 87-90. 3rd SPG. I worked town patrol. Lots of fond memories. The first bar I went to after being in country for a few days was the Gold Coast @5:04, 5:29. My favorite bars were the Zoo 7:16 and Murphies. 6:05. Murphies use to roll the dice for happy hour prices. If you rolled box cars, beer and rum/cokes cost $1:20. Snake eyes 20 cents. The crowd would get pissed if someone rolled box cars!
Hi Travis! I also was at Clark AB from 87-89 and worked Town Patrol, 3rd LES. I got on town patrol after the murders (including fellow SP K9 handler Steve Faust). Wow it's been over 30 years.
Oh, I just remember my first supervisor Tsgt Carpenter on TP. I started out on C flight with Tsgt Palmer on the base. Worked the LE desk for a bit, then moved to TP after the terrorist attacks in October '87. Actually I had just attended NCO preparatory class.
Travis I was there 1984-1986. 3rd CRS. Those were my two favorites also. It was the Zoo that rolled the dice. We used to hit Murphy's first around 7pm, then head over to the Zoo from 1130pm-1230am for happy hour dice roll, then back to Murphy's sometime until sun up! lol Some of my best memories from the Air Force.
Great photos...brings me back. Was stationed at Clark from '73-'75, and I was twenty years old. At that time it was Marshal Law so you had to be off the street a midnight. I was in the area from 1987-1990. I remember Mick being outraged that the airlines were no longer serving alcohol on sidney to Manila flights when the oil field workers were heading to Manila. And I thought, can't believe they did in the first place. Had such a blast with the Aussies. Good dudes
Yes, i was there in 1987, March 7th, it was a Saturday, got married on the Base, Judge Lansing officiated, married a girl from the Eagles Nest Hotel, just around the corner from Randy Rams and the Third Eye Disco, the hotel was owned by Mike Mulholland and his filipina wife Angie, they also owned the Rhum Runner Bar on perimeter road not far from Moon Doggies, Mick was ex Aust Army, Vietnam, Borneo and Malaya i think, no wonder he had a few issues, but i liked him, most people did.
I was there in 1984 1985 I went there three times I was stationed in Okinawa so we flew for $10 in the Clark and I met Mick in 1984 ended up playing cricket with a bunch of bar owners all the girls from the bar s wow what a fantastic day and night that was mick was a great guy
A/C isnt the same anymore, i go back to the early 90`s, thats when the bars in Ermita were closed down, many working girls headed north to A/C, i guess it was ok until about 2010-ish, I walked into bar in A/C a few years ago, and asked how much the bar fine was, the mamasan told me ; ' no bar fine ,sir', next evening i walked into a different bar asked the same question, the answer was 2800 pesos, the bars are on and off as the local cops order......social websites are ok to get laid nowadays
