Thanks Nick, for letting us know where these bands originate from. Maybe that could be a show topic at some point. The Best of Poland, Best of Slovakia, etc. Something like that. Anyways, keep up the good work guys, and have a great New Year!
My top 10 albums of the year: 1.Dwellers of the Deep - Wobbler - This album is a real prog masterpiece with brilliant musicianship and fantastic lyrics that goes out throughout the album. Do they give that classic prog sound, yes, but bid they emerged beyond that and made their trademark sound 100 %, just brilliant symphonic prog. 2. Sadako e le mille gru di carta - Logos - melodic and harmonic keyboard driven prog with great heavy moments followed by guitar work that delivers wonders. The album builds up perfectly and goes back and forth from intensity and drama to tranquility and features powerful saxophone work. 3. S.E.I. - La Maschera Di Cera - The three tracks on the album are very complex music pieces, combining compact, dark moments with an atmospheric feel. They deliver various styles of prog from symphonic, jazz to heavy all followed by great keyboard work, rhythmic patterns, and powerful distorted bass that makes up for the absence of the electric guitar. 4. Where Do You Want Ghosts to Reside - Fren 5. The 3rd Majesty - Ring van möbius 6. MAGICK BROTHER AND MYSTIC SISTER 7. The All Is One - Motorpsycho 8. Madness and Magic - Arabs in aspic 9. The Four Zoas - Vespero 10. Did swans ever see God - Submarine Silence

Amazing Bruce album for me. Maybe its losing my mum on 4th July and I shared a love for Bruce with her. She wouldve loved it, and I lot of the lyrics speak to me on a really deep level. Strange how many hard rock fans always find a place for bruce 👍
Funny enough, my Spotify 2020 most played was not the new AC/DC (they were second). Thanks to SoT my #1 song was...Starless-King Crimson (Pete your channel brought me back to the Red album, hadn't listened to it in years and I guess it just kept pulling me back...)
Ulver - Flowers Of Evil. (Nick, thanks for recommending them on one of Pete's videos, going through their catalogue). Blue Oyster Cult - The Symbol Remains.
FINALLY listened to "City Burials" last night and it blew me away. No surprise there. Kind of surprised that Intronaut "Fluid Existential Inversions" and The Ocean "Phanerzoic II" didn't make anyone's list. Enslaved getting the trifecta was nice. Great show as usual!
Love that Wobbler album, definitely on my end of year list, Malokarpatan also on my EOY list, incredible album. Sojourner I loved but I may like their first album even more but still a great album. I’ve said a few times that Utgard is my number 1 of 2020. Armored Saint also on my list. Koitos also, Kansas also and Necrophobic and you know I love the Havukruunu album. The Horn album was excellent, along with Benediction, Necrot, Blue Öyster Cult. and Deep Purple. Great three lists guys very strong all of them.
Just out of curiosity why do you like the new FW? I'm an old fan of theirs who hasn't gotten into their last 3 or 4 albums as they have just goten mellower without gaining any creativity. I'm wondering if this album is any better....
Nice lists guys. Wondering if Pete has heard the album Pentecost by Wytch Hazel. Figure he'd love their brand of 70's style hard rock/traditional metal since he really dug the Wishbone Ash this year too. Love Nick's picks Havukruunu and Malokarpatan, both are some of my favorites this year too. Honorable mentions to Pallbearer, Horisont, Enslaved, Necrot, and Havukruunu. My top 10: 10. Glacier - The Passing of Time (kickass old school underground heavy metal/power metal band resurrected after 30+ years) 09. Warbringer - Weapons of Tomorrow (Love Testament and Havok's albums this year, but Warbringer had the best thrash album IMO) 08. Spirit Adrift - Enlightened in Eternity (cut out most of the doom from their sound and put out a triumphant heavy metal record) 07. Malokarpatan - Krupinske Ohne (what Nick said, super diverse sounding record but a melodic heavy metal album at its core) 06. Wytch Hazel - Pentecost (glorious 70's rock/metal, twin guitar harmonies for days, almost every song feels like an instant classic) 05. Paradise Lost - Obsidian (Love how much they embraced the gothy vibes. Sisters of Mercy and Type O Negative worship done right.) 04. Spell - Opulent Decay (more traditional metal/hard rock majesty from this Canadian trio. Maybe the new generation's Rush?) 03. Ulthar - Providence (A disgustingly heavy and chaotic listen, but keeps you hooked with really crushing and surprisingly sticky riffs) 02. Eternal Champion - Ravening Iron (I feel like they topped their debut with this, the songs are so immediate and so replayable. The kings of the new wave of trad metal.) 01. Wayfarer - A Romance With Violence (So cinematic and grandiose, truly feels like a black metal version of the wild west)
10. H.E.A.T. - II 9. Vandenberg - 2020 8. Diamond Head - Lightning to The Nations 2020 7. Paradise Lost - Obsidian 6. Dark Tranquility - Moment 5. Enslaved - Utgard 4. Cirith Ungol - Forever Black 3. Vanden Plas - The Ghost Experiment: Illuminations 2. Testament - Titans of Creation 1. Fates Warning - Long Day Good Night
Deftones - Ohms is hands down my album of the year. Awesome surprise seeing Steve rep it in his top 10. Curious to hear what Pete and Nick think about Deftones. Didn't seem like they're fans. Although the band sometimes gets lumped in with others who came up at that time, Deftones are far from what we'd consider a nu metal band. They incorporate so many different styles. I feel like many fans and critics know that, and Ohms has rightfully gotten lots of shine this year. But for those who have doubts, please dismiss them and dive into the band's discography.
My 10 in no particular order, 1,Testament Titans of Creation 2,Sodom Genesis XIX 3,Dark Quarterer Pompei 4,Falconer From a Dying Ember. 5,Pyramaze Epitaph. 6,Wolf Feeding the Machine. 7,Conception State of Deception. 8,Vader Solitude in Madness. 9,Benediction Scriptures 10,Mystic Prophecy Metal Division. 🤘🤘
@@Ihatecensorship1 Hi Nick.., thank you a lot, never heard this band, but listened to this on,it's great! I ordered the CD version some are quite expensive . Cheers !
Hey guys 🤘 I see you love metal, specifically different genres than 'the youth' being metalcore. I want to recommend some amazing albums that came out in genres you may not completely enjoy but are worth looking into. 1. Protest the Hero - Palimpest (progressive metal) 2. Like Moths to Flames - No Eternity in Gold (metalcore/post-hardcore) 3. August Burns Red - Guardians (metalcore)
For 2020 I actually was listening to all those 1970- 1973 prog, hard rock bands that I discovered thru this channel. I rarely had time to listen to new releases
Some underground metal from 2020 I couldn’t stop listening to. Eternal Champion-(Ravening Iron) a ton of fun, traditional metal full of riffs and unique vocals Cult of Lilith-(Mara) death, prog, as beautiful as it is brutal Gaerea-(Limbo) emotional, cinematic black metal Sweven-(The Eternal Resonance) black, death, complex, proggy. Uada-(Djinn) beautiful black metal with melody White Stones-(Kuarahy) Martin Mendez (Opeth) death metal
1) H.E.A.T.- II 2) Armored Saint - Punching the Sky 3) Girish & The Chronicles - Rock the Highway 4) Oz - Forced Commandments 5) Vanden Plas- The Ghost Xperiment: Illumination 6) Sorcerer - Lamenting The Innocent 7) Stallion - Slaves of Time 8) Archon Angel - Fallen 9) Bloody Heels - Ignite the Sky 10) Stryper - Even the Devil Believes
Good call from Nick - Benediction and Malokarpatan in my top 10 and Steve Incantation lots of good stuff on the heavier side Check out Detroit Death Doom Metal Temple of Void - The world that was Ulcerate -Stare into death and be still Paradise Lost -Obsidian ( still crushing after 16 albums Midnight -Rebirth by Blasphemy (kind of Motörhead meets Black metal ) Deftones -Ohms
I'd be interested to hear what Nick thinks about the French black metal scene, especially with bands like Deathspell Omega and Peste Noire bringing something new to the genre.
Hi Guys. Great Show Here are my top 10. 1. Sons of Apollo- MMXX 2. Testament- Titans of Creation 3. Armored Saint - Punching The Sky 4. Vanden Plas- The Ghost Experiment 5. Heck yeah I wish more people understood how good they are. Christian Rock lowkey had a great year with that and Stryper. I normally listen to 0 records per year haha
Loved deftones and AC/DC. Even loved the Deftones white Pony reissue that came out this month. With all the praise of deep purple box and Kansas I will have to check have to check them out. Think I’ll go order them now.
I sense a death metal, black metal, thrash metal theme here. so be it. Not a fan of those genres.....but thats just me. I love this channel. Im not much into rankings and lists.....but ill try a top 3. #3-Haken/Virus. #2-Unleash the Archers/Abyss. #1- Scardust/Strangers. Cheers guys!
Well, I did a top list a few weeks ago (I aimed for top 25, it became 27 at the end), The first 3 are my top favourites from last year, 4-22 the really good ones, and the rest is the albums I liked really much, but I don't think I will listen to them too much in the future. 1. The Pineapple Thief: Versions of the Truth. Blue Oyster Cult: The Symbol Remains. Blue Oyster Cult: Live at Rock of Ages Festival 2016. Fee Waybill: Fee Waybill Rides Again. Clock Opera: Carousel..
Pete, Totally agree with you that Titans of Creation is a killer thrash album and I love Testament, but the thrash album of the year (IMO) goes to Weapons of Tomorrow by Warbringer. Incredible guitars, drumming, and songs! I can’t get enough of it.
Honestly, most people have more biases than what they will admit. Especially when it comes to female bands. Japanese bands Band Maid and Love Bites are phenomenal musicians, Rock/power metal bbands.Yes most of their lyrics are in japanese, but have enough hooks that are very accessible. The Warning and Ruido Rosa are to great Mexican female rock/metal bands that are very accessible.
Thankfully we have people like who who are so open and enlightened that they can guide us through our darkened biases and point us in the right direction towards truly great music and away from our predetermined misogynist tendencies of listening to crap.
@@independenceltd. I think that you misunderstood me. I meant that there will always be biases in our likes and dislikes. I certainly have and sometimes still do. Many times I have found that I have judged a book by it's cover, name, looks, or language, and out of boredom decided to check them out on UA-cam and discovered some amazing music. But like Pete said, "I can't like everything".
Some of the releases I loved on the heavier side of 2020.. Ulcerate: Stare Into Death and Be Still Hum: Inlet Bleed From Within: Fracture Anaal Nathrakh: Endarkenment Oranssi Pazuzu: Mestarin kynsi Trivium: What the Dead Men Say Killer Be Killed: Reluctant Hero
Just out of curiosity why do you like the new FW? I'm an old fan of theirs who hasn't gotten into their last 3 or 4 albums as they have just goten mellower without gaining any creativity. I'm wondering if this album is any better....
I just posted my top 5 albums of 2020 in "The Rock Room" A group I belong to. I will share them with you 1 Whoosh - Deep Purple...without a doubt my #1 2 Coat Of Arms - Wishbone Ash...another great one from this classic band 3 Absence Of Presence - Kansas...could make a case for #2 4 A Call To Arms - Monte Montgomery...doesn't get the recognition he deserves 5 The Other Side - Nektar...love this progrock album
Of course you meant commemorating one year since Neil left us, not celebrating. Still hard to believe he’s gone. Great show, guys! BOC gets my vote for No. 1. I just wish it hadn’t taken so damn long.
Steve delivering the Brutal Death , Nick bringing the Trv Kvlt Black Metal albums , and Pete the 50 year old classic bands , but all agree that the new Testament rules . I love Lucifer ( the band , not the morning star ) .
1. Testament - Titans of Creation 2. Trivium - What the Dead Men Say 3. Leaves' Eyes - The Last Viking 4. Lost Society - No Absolution 5. Aeternam - Al Qassam 6. Nightmare - Aeternam 7. Sodom - Genesis XIX 8. Amaranthe - Manifest 9. Havok - V 10. Dynazty - The Dark Delight
How about a list of top 10 or 20 best solo albums from members of bands? Some that come to mind are peter gabriel or robert plant or dio/ozzy. Just a thought...
My final Top Ten: 1. Molasses - Through the Hollow 2. Mr. Bungle - The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny Demo 3. Hexvessel - Kindred 4. Napalm Death - Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism 5. Havukruunu - Uinuos Syömein Sota 6. Enslaved - Utgard 7. Velnias - Scion of Aether 8. Killer Be Killed - Reluctant Hero 9. Thy Catafalque - Naiv 10. Sweven - The Eternal Resonance
Iron Angel really surprised me, logged a lot of repeat listens. The new Heathen album is great as well, great straight ahead metal with some thrash thrown in.
The amount of amazing content that Pete is putting out over the last few weeks is astonishing. Thanks Pete! Keep it coming my man!
The only new release I bought this year was BOC - The Symbol Remains
Its awesome.

Any chance of listing Nick’s picks? I can’t begin to work out the spelling of most of them!!😆🤘🏻
Deep Purple, BOC, AC/DC and Kansas stellar releases in the same year. Everyone else step aside “The Old Boys Are Back In Town”.
Quick listen to Sojourner, nice pic Nick! Testament's album is the year's best metal album for me.
Nick great Number 2 Horn fantastic cd. Can't believe it's one guy. I bought a t shirt also.
Eternal Champion’s new one.
Solicitor - “ Spectral Devastation “.
Ohms by Deftones and Long Day Good Night by Fates Warning are my favorite albums of the year.
My top 10:
10. Glacier - The Passing of Time (kickass old school underground heavy metal/power metal band resurrected after 30+ years)
09. Warbringer - Weapons of Tomorrow (Love Testament and Havok's albums this year, but Warbringer had the best thrash album IMO)
08. Spirit Adrift - Enlightened in Eternity (cut out most of the doom from their sound and put out a triumphant heavy metal record)
07. Malokarpatan - Krupinske Ohne (what Nick said, super diverse sounding record but a melodic heavy metal album at its core)
06. Wytch Hazel - Pentecost (glorious 70's rock/metal, twin guitar harmonies for days, almost every song feels like an instant classic)
05. Paradise Lost - Obsidian (Love how much they embraced the gothy vibes. Sisters of Mercy and Type O Negative worship done right.)
04. Spell - Opulent Decay (more traditional metal/hard rock majesty from this Canadian trio. Maybe the new generation's Rush?)
03. Ulthar - Providence (A disgustingly heavy and chaotic listen, but keeps you hooked with really crushing and surprisingly sticky riffs)
02. Eternal Champion - Ravening Iron (I feel like they topped their debut with this, the songs are so immediate and so replayable. The kings of the new wave of trad metal.)
01. Wayfarer - A Romance With Violence (So cinematic and grandiose, truly feels like a black metal version of the wild west)
Am I the Only one that Purchased More Music in 2020 than I have in the last 10 years.??.. No Live Music means I am Back to Collecting.
All the money I saved from going to bars...and then some.
I bought over 300 albums this year. Its usually 50-100 a year for me. Probably the most i've purchased in the last 25 years.
I was pretty out of control with CD purchases, including replenishing my collection with albums I used to own and wanted again.

Nick recommended this album "Norrhem - Koitos" from Finland. This is great stuff, I second that any black metal fan should check this out! \m/

For 2020 I actually was listening to all those 1970- 1973 prog, hard rock bands that I discovered thru this channel. I rarely had time to listen to new releases
Some underground metal from 2020 I couldn’t stop listening to.
Eternal Champion-(Ravening Iron) a ton of fun, traditional metal full of riffs and unique vocals
Cult of Lilith-(Mara) death, prog, as beautiful as it is brutal
Gaerea-(Limbo) emotional, cinematic black metal
Sweven-(The Eternal Resonance) black, death, complex, proggy.
Uada-(Djinn) beautiful black metal with melody
White Stones-(Kuarahy) Martin Mendez (Opeth) death metal
I just checked out the HORN album on Bandcamp. Wow! Thanks for the heads up, Nick.

Pete,
Totally agree with you that Titans of Creation is a killer thrash album and I love Testament, but the thrash album of the year (IMO) goes to Weapons of Tomorrow by Warbringer.
Band-Maid fkg awesome
Some of the releases I loved on the heavier side of 2020..
Ulcerate: Stare Into Death and Be Still
Hum: Inlet
Bleed From Within: Fracture
Anaal Nathrakh: Endarkenment
Oranssi Pazuzu: Mestarin kynsi
Trivium: What the Dead Men Say
Killer Be Killed: Reluctant Hero
That Trivium album was amazing
Fates Warning - Long Day Goodnight
Just out of curiosity why do you like the new FW? I'm an old fan of theirs who hasn't gotten into their last 3 or 4 albums as they have just goten mellower without gaining any creativity. I'm wondering if this album is any better....
Wayferer-A Romance with Violence. US Atmospheric Black/Folk metal. Wild West vibes, stories.

1 Whoosh - Deep Purple...without a doubt my #1
2 Coat Of Arms - Wishbone Ash...another great one from this classic band
3 Absence Of Presence - Kansas...could make a case for #2
4 A Call To Arms - Monte Montgomery...doesn't get the recognition he deserves
5 The Other Side - Nektar...love this progrock album
My number 1 for 2020 was a tie I couldn’t decide completely different bands but both left their mark, eternal champion and new Sodom record
1. Testament
- Titans of Creation

- What the Dead Men Say
3. Leaves' Eyes
- The Last Viking
4. Lost Society
- No Absolution

One for Nick to check out - from Ecuador Decapitados - Doom Death Metal
How about a list of top 10 or 20 best solo albums from members of bands? Some that come to mind are peter gabriel or robert plant or dio/ozzy. Just a thought...
