What a classy skater she is. And such an impressive comeback she has made. I have a feeling there are many of us who will be rooting for Gracie at Skate America and nationals.

Gracie has it all, however, she just needs to work on her conditioning and what she is projecting to the audience. For whatever reason her takes offs look lazy, as if she's not putting much energy into them and is hoping that the rest of the jump will take care of itself. You have to be careful with that b/c if you don't have enough energy on takeoff you could underrotate, causing an awkward position upon landing, thereby leading to possibly a scary fall. So, energy on takeoff is a safety issue, not a cosmetic one. On the artistic front, she looks like she was simply going through the motions. It felt more like a gymnastics routine than a figure skating performance. There's nothing wrong with Gracie's jumps. She could actually teach the younger girls how a triple Lutz is truly executed. She has nice lines. Also, something the younger girls would be wise to emulate. So, I look forward to seeing her progress this year. She may very well surprise us all at Nationals. She has the experience, she has the jumps, she has the class - now she just needs to use those weapons to turn in powerful performances. Remember, over the years, it's not about whether you won the Olympics. How many people are re-watching Sotnikova? Not me. How many millions continue to watch Michelle Kwan? In fact Michelle Kwan drew inspiration from someone who NEVER won an Olympic medal, the great Janet Lynn. And Janet was literally 30+ years BEFORE Michelle. So, why was Janet such an inspiration for Michelle? Because Janet produced moving performances! Period. THAT is the power of a heartfelt effort. You move people emotionally through time and space. So, that's where the focus should be, performances that will look beautiful and have an impact 20 years from now. And if Gracie can skate like that, she just may be able to grab a few major medals along her journey.

Even though she made a lot of mistakes, I actually find this skate encouraging because she had a lot of energy at the end of the program and didn't run out of gas and start doubling everything, which is what has been happening until now (since she's come back to the ice). So her stamina seems to be a lot closer to where it needs to be! I think this just needs more time now!

While I loved when she began her big comeback and looked forward to her every year as the classic underdog...
Without her jumping prowess of her youth, it only showed her to be a bland competitor otherwise. No expression. She often appeared either bored or like someone held a gun to her head to be out there. Despite interviews saying she was competing for the love of skating, that never translated into anything you could give a good PCS score to. No connection to the music or audience. She skated in a bubble of silence and the music was merely present. This is a beautiful piece of music given a very mediocre treatment.
She moved in a very "prescribed" way. Choreography should be pulled off as if it were the skater's feelings and moves. It's a form of acting. She just looked like she memorized "her lines" and she "recited" them to a crowd with all the joy of a lead weight at the bottom of a lake. That went for all of her programs in this era. I hated that for her. She was better than that. I felt she was capable of more -- she HAD to be, right?
So many winning ideas over the years for her, "She Used to be Mine", "East of Eden", but they were never delivered with a champion -- or even an exhibition -- mentality. They were delivered in a stifled, muted manner and the apparent goal in mind was only to complete that 4 minutes -- not to enjoy it or give anything worthwhile to the audience.

First of all, this was Gracie’s first full international competition in more than 4 years (last one was golden spin of Zagreb in 2017), it was a great decision to compete here because this did take most of the pressure off from her since she didn’t compete internationally for so long and will work as experience for her next event, she has improved so much in just one year, she started to skate clean shorts since last year and now she’s showing a fighting spirit that we’ve rarely seen from her even when she was at the top of her game, this shows why she still is (and probably always be) one of the most talented skaters the US ever had, I wish that she finally beats her demons and shows her full potential❤

I expected so much more from Gracie with the improvements we saw early on but she really has lost speed, conviction, amplitude which she had in spades years ago. The "good" in me wants her to continue and show the world and yes do it for herself and this is the year with Russia gone, Korea not back at the top and Japan while good not as good as in the past when Wakaba, Miyahara and or Mao were on top. But GRacie in this skate has a lack of confidence, a lack of conviction and a lack of drive. The jumps weren't as big or fast. She skated lifelessly trhough the program rather than in the program. Even her costume was not as nice but to be fair it might be money issues. And she needs to get rid of the gloves - at least in the short. We can say skate for yourself, do it for you, y ou have nothing to prove, ; we can say with Bell uncommitted, Liu retired and Chen not really out there this is her time. I understand money might be the issue too - skating time, coaching and that explain the dresses no longer having that panache, style and showiness. I wonder if she has an exit strategy? Or perhaps she will coach and because the us skating has not had great superstars lately shemay be able to make a living doing some of the few shows. Or we might see her on a cruiseship or nudes on ice or something.
