  • Matchbox Kingsize Models - a walk through the many models - October 16th, 2015. Take a look at most of the Matchbox King Size models made by Lesney in the 1960's. This video should bring back childhood memories if you had these as a kid back in the 60's and early 70's. I still love them all today 50 years later.

    What a fantastic collection! I had about a dozen or more of the king size models when I was a kid. Of course I ran the tires off of them. This really brings back memories!
    The artwork on the boxes was special.

    At 7 years old, I began collecting Matchbox 1-75's. That was in '65 or '66- keeping them in their boxes. I managed to get all 75, plus a few variations. Then, I started in major packs, king size & yesteryears. When I went to high school, I was still collecting "ANYTHING" Matchbox I didn't have. One of my teachers invited me to a 'toy meet'- what is a TOY MEET?? I was 14 & OMG- I never saw so many discontinued Matchbox items I was missing!! I brought $50.00 with me, & ended up with 6 pieces only, but mint in the boxes! After that, I went to every toy meet I could, plus buying new items from Toys-Are-Us, Kay-Bee Hobby, K-Mart & any other store that carried Matchbox!
    Fast forward to the early 1990's - with SO many variations & most items only on blister cards, I just gave up! Plus the fact that I was married for 2 years & had a 1 year old daughter. Not much $$ left for Matchbox :-(
    Do you know how many variations on the superfast #38 Ford Model A truck there are? Literally thousands! And now they are doing the same with the #60 Ford Transit Van. I've sold all my 1-75's, superfasts & major packs on eBay. I'm putting up all my yesteryears (over 100) on July 15. Then I'll hit the kings & superkings.
    If interested, check out marklinho4ever on eBay tomorrow night starting at 6:00 pm EDT. Every bid starts at .99 cents. if you're the only bidder, you get the item for less than a buck (plus shipping) I'm very fair with shipping- I have over 1300 positive feedbacks & NEVER a neg!!

    Wow, Dave! You are right...a big toy store in the 1960's didn't even have as many Kings as you do! I haven't been buying too much lately, but still enjoy looking at your website from time to time. Great stuff!

    I like the artwork on the photo boxes best, but my favorite King was introduced in a window box in 1969 - the K-4 Leyland Tipper. And ha-ha, another comment from me two years ago just below! Also commented on the bottom re: King picture vs. window ("slide" vs. "clear") boxes.

    I have a few of these older matchbox models.The Scammell dump truck( K-19) I have is an unboxed 1971 example that my mum bought me from a charity shop in the 80s when I was a kid.Recently I bought a battered Scammell 6x6 tractor for £1 (seen at 24:39 2nd row 2nd from the left) Although I grew up with 1980s matchbox cars,lorries etc and liked them, nowadays I really think 1960s matchbox vehicles were far better and possess a lot more charm

    I would also like to know why the value of these declined so much. In the 90s they were extremely more expensive

    • @grantkruse1812
      @grantkruse1812 3 роки тому

      Pretty obvious when you consider that all those little boys who played with these toys in the 50s and 60s were 40-50yrs old in the 90s...They were able to buy the childhood memories and even share that with their own kids...I'm 70yrs old and I can remember spending 29cents up to 49cents for these things back in the day...At this age, we have little interest in toys...Many of those old men who might be interested in buying these toys are now dead or dying, toys no longer interest us...You may see Hot Wheels (an inferior product) surpass matchbox in price soon enough, merely because the little boys who played with them have now reached an age where money is less of an object to what we want...The "Man Cave" has a place for the display of our childhood treasures...

    • @mystorymylife9998
      @mystorymylife9998 3 роки тому

      @@grantkruse1812 my dad and I collected these together in the 90s . At that time we had to go to antique stores and booths to locate them. He past away 5 years ago and I inherited his collection. Most of the ones he had were since he was a kid. He didn’t make great money so we could only purchase what he could afford. I’m 35 and been purchasing them heavy in the last few years. I feel like it’s stupid to inherit a collection and not keep the collection going. My favorite ones to purchase is blister packs. I noticed recently people on eBay are really paying extreme prices. I bought them much cheaper last year and the years past. The thing I like about blister packs is thinking to myself why this toy been in the package for 70 years. Why did a child receive this cool toy and never opened it. I find it very odd

    I love the k-7 race car carrier.. I always wondered why the window of the yellow one comes in two varieties. Some have the window frame, like the white Martini k-7, some have a clear view window all around. Any one have some info on this?

    • @trainsntile
      @trainsntile 4 роки тому

      @Jeroen Stobbe Those 'differences' are variations. You can go broke buying all (or many) of them, especially in mint condition WITH their boxes.

  • @alpinegeordie

    Handle the boxes and toys a bit gentler, it devalues the product! to the viewers .... your collection is very nice and valuable and you treat it like plastic crap .....just saying

    • @trainsntile
      @trainsntile 4 роки тому

      @Bill Weir Yes TREAT THEM LIKE GOLD!!! Those boxes become brittle & the glue on the window boxes tends to let go sometimes. I've repaired probably 20 recently.

    Let's remain fair, if you have so many of these, it's not (just) because you love them, but because it simply is an investment. As far as I remember, that's not a "dirty" word, is it ? So let's name a cat just "cat", shall we, for clarity's sake, in stead of just wiggling around the hot oatmeal....

      Picture boxes were used for King Size models up until about 1966. Then Lesney decided as a marketing move to switch all their Kings to window boxes so the actual model could be viewed in its package. Same thing happened with all Models Of Yesteryear about a year later.

      Sometimes nice things happen in collecting. When I purchased a K-6 Mercedes Ambulance from a dealer a few years ago, he sent me TWO patients on stretchers with their snap-on red blankets. Great because I'd just bought a Super King of the same model missing the stretcher. A neat surprise!😊

      Well, I don't know if it this will help, but they used to sell some of these models in Bulgaria up till the very late 90's. As far as I remember a set of two pieces from the Kingaized models (they obviously weren't called like that in Bulgaria back then) was about 10 BGN and that's roughly 4.50 GBP adjusted to inflation and in modern currency. Back in the day when some of the 1st models were introduced, they were probably cheaper.My uncle used to collect the Bulgarian Made Superfast series back in the day(mid 70's to early 80's) and he said they used to cost about 1.50 BGN which is about 60p. Now these can't be evaluated really. Matchbox cars and sets from Socialist Bulgaria or Hungary are extremely rare and they were aimed at the Eastern Block market

    • @mystorymylife9998
      @mystorymylife9998 5 років тому

      Ivan Enchev I finally found the answer. I was able to purchase one in a blister pack from the 60s and it says 59 cents , and one original sticker said 3 for $1. I found it very strange that people bought these cars in the 60s and didn’t even take it out of package.
