    I remember buying my first matchbox car in the 60s and they were 29cents. Loved going to the news paper shop and looking at all the models. In the 70s it changed to the round carousel display. I still have about 40 of my Matchbox cars. Now days other than mat box I collect Tomica models and other model in Mitsubishi cars only of which I now have 2000.

    I have this display case, dang near mint condition all original. Used to be my grandpas, I’ve contemplated selling it to someone who would love it. I know grandpa would want someone who would appreciate it.

      Which one of the pair do you have and are there models in the display. Mine came with models, the 1 to 75 have mostly earlier than the 1964 model year that this display was made for which is 1964. I have replaced those with mint condition models. This one is in as close to original new condition as could be possible. Value is in the 5k US plus range. Figure $60 a piece for mint models with no boxes x $75 and $1,500 for the display. The King Size display is much more rare. I would never sell mine. At the auction I bought these at someone tried to steal the displays while we were still in the auction room buying other items.

      @@toycarcollector I have the 1-75 smaller display. It even has the original glass that was used in the stores to protect the cars. I do not have the cars for it- just the display. That is super interesting!

    my uncle owned one of these in his shop. Im sure it had a piece of glass over the top of the case to stop prying fingers!

      Best bet is to make one yourself. This display is very rare and I have only seen two others for sale and they were in poor condition. I just now checked eBay and found that on the 21st of January the smaller display for the 1 to 75 models sold for $1600 with 75 cars that were in decent shape. The display was good condition not like new but the price was very good. I have both the 1-75 display and the larger one in this video and paid about $6,500 for both with models. All the models in the large display were mint, and the models in the 1-75 display were actually earlier models with grey metal wheels mostly.

    Sir, How can you tell if the matchbox cars with boxes are original, or reproductions from China? Thank you, Jay

    Hey Dave, do you think you'll be putting up the "blister pack liberation" from the 2017 hot wheels convention ok youtube? that was my first time opening up one and I wasn't even expecting to, but it was great and i heard that some past ones were on youtube and then i came across your channel, thanks

    I can’t imagine what you have might have paid for that piece. Did you ever have any interest in those older metal lunchboxes ?

    • @toycarcollector
      @toycarcollector  4 роки тому +1

      Lunch boxes would be too expensive to collect. With Hot Wheels you can buy a carry case full of nice cars from an original owner fairly easily. I dont think I could get say a dozen lunch boxes from the original owner that were hardly used. So I would have to compete with folks for one at a time on ebay and that would be so spendy.
