Gvardiol can go home with his head held high knowing only Messi could do that to him. Everyone else in this tournament was in his pocket. What a player 👏🏿
thats an early maguire sign my friend

@@Marco-fn6kgMessi was playing injured as well believe it or not.
@@Marco-fn6kg Messi was holding his hamstring throughout the second half. Yet he manages to dribble past Gvardiol
@@ashutoshshrestha9295 hmmm let’s hope for the best. it’s a long time since we’ve seen maldini & nesta. there’s ramos & varane or vandijk, but i haven’t seen something like maldini or nesta yet.
Messi is so much more than just a "striker" or "play-maker" or "dribbler". Normally, a good player would excel in one attribute and a great player would be among the best in a given attribute. The thing about Messi is, he is at the top of basically any metric you can use to quantify the skill of a footballer. He's the best goalscorer. The best dribbler. The best play-maker. What a blessing to watch him play. Magician. Genius.
@Whateverworks. I think you people give him praise for things he cannot do. I understand you guys love him and I like messi too as a player but there are ways he is limited. Aerials, sprint, athletics are things he is limited and he would be beaten at it by those like Mbappe, Haaland, Cr7 and etc. Now messi is so good that he works around those limitations and that's why he deserve to be in top 11 players of all time for sure.
@@Molhedim Top 11 ?? Lmao you gotta be kidding.
@@Molhedim Sure, but you haven't pointed out where I praise him for something he cannot do. I praise him for three concrete things, _although I could argue for more_ , you are free to disagree with those concrete attributes if you'd like, but you have yet to do that.
That's why, btw I say he basically (which you could substitute with virtually) tops any metric, that means by definition that he doesn't, else I would have omitted "basically"/"virtually".
Like I agree with the implication of your comment, that of course he has limits, but I don't think I praise him for something he cannot do (as you suggest), so may I ask you to elaborate what exactly your point is? (in reference to my comment, which I assume must be relevant, since you replied to it.)
I don't agree with your implication that he's a top-11 player. That's selling him way too short. That's actually a ridiculous implication.
@@Molhedim And more over, if you appreciate the underlying point of my comment, you realize the acknowledgement that - not only Messi - but humans in general are limited, that is the acknowledgement needed to understand why it is so incredibly impressive, that Messi manages to outperform everyone in a handful of categories over a 15-year period. That is (almost?) unheard of.
Given this and my initial reply to you, I must say, I don't think you understood what you replied to.
@@Molhedim you mean top 1? Lol top 11. Get out of here only 0.00001% of people think he should be outside top 5
Boateng to Gvardiol be like: welcome to the club bro😀
That goal vs bayern was a whole different breed. Gvardiol has the potential to become world class, but Boateng and neuer at that time were the best cb and keeper on the planet and messi quite literally sat them down effortlessly
The thing that astounds me is that Messi at 35 is his 7th or 8th best version of himself if we create a Messi version for each year he's played. He's only surpassed by a younger version of himself. The run and assist he made yesterday was something he used to do 6-8 times in some games when he was 20-25. What a player he's been. Oh my goodness. I will cry when he leaves and we no longer see him play. He's been fantastic. If I could give 10 year of my life in order for him to go back to 25 and play another 10 years I'd do it in a heartbeat.
😊
Me too
you dont have to give 10, ill give 5 and you give 5 as well 😊
You all are crazy 🤣🤣
I know what you mean. I lost most of his yrs bc of sheer stupidity. I only discovered him two yrs ago but I've been making up for time, going in intensely on old matches, videos, information, stats, etc. He's taken me over.
It's not a bad thing for the young defender.
He might be THE defender of this tournament but messi is THE player of this game. It's not a scar but a Medal.
Exactly Gvardiol mustn't let this moment bring him down Messi on his day which is like every other day can do it to anyone he should accept he was done by the legend and move on he would never face anyone better than Messi at least for a decade or even longer may be never in his long career ahead of him.
Messi consistently does things which are invisible to the naked eye at a seemingly cornered situation on a football pitch 💯...
"Subtle is the Lord." (Einstein)
This assist, though amazing, I can see other great players make as well. The assist Messi had against the Netherlands was something extremely unique. The vision, the awareness, the composure… pure magic.
True but you have to take into account he did this at 35 years old, I don’t see any 35 year old playing at this level. He also did this on somebody who was being considered a great defender during the cup tournament. Yes not the craziest highlight reel for Messi but it was still majestic and reminded us of the Messi back in the day
Muneeb Khan its hard to digest the fact for u as a penaldo fanboy
Messi assist against Croatia was similar to his assist against Italy in Finalissima where he just forced his way out against Di Lorenzo to give the pass..
I agree, the assist against Netherlands was something special..
I think this for me is better 😇because my g dont have that acceleration no more and adapt. Beat him once, cut back in once gvardiol cut in and spun him 😅. Once he cut back I thought he gonna pass it sideways.
True Messi doesn't even look up and knows exactly where he is.
There is a moment during the sequence when Messi looks over at Alvarez as to say, get ready, I am going to set you up. Messi then stops, fakes a move and continues down the pitch, drawing the defense in which they then drift out of position, leaving Alvarez wide open. You notice Alvarez hardly watches the ball go into the net, he visually confirms the goal, then runs straight to Messi. It is remarkable, unbelievable, a Gift from God. Vamos Lionel!
Thank you. You noticed.
Ngl of you're old enough to have seen Messi from 2008/2009 to present, that was a play he would do in his sleep, in his prime he'd probably be able to keep dribbling inside and chip the keeper, what a player, he's been doing it for so long, quality since 05/06 with Etoo and Dinho, all the way until today's era, he's lost pace, but he is still one top attackers in Europe with his effective play and pure production, whatever happens in the final, I hope he carries on in a top league for another few years because he is still arguably the best in the world
The guy is that good he has lost probably half of his genius level capabilities that he had on his prime but still he can turn it on like he hadn't and that's why even if Messi isn't able to capture his ultimate prize he would still be my GOAT.
Before I was introduced to Messi years ago I didn’t care much for playmaking and assist and only valued high goalscorers but he really made me appreciate the art along with some other people

That wasn't the most stunning thing though. The real stunning moment or moments are the Croatian coaching and playing staff deciding to use short corners for their first two corners and end up conceding from one. This is what happens when you overcomplicate the game.
Speaking of coaches I hope Luis Enrique and Hansi Flick (and others who don't value strikers) were watching that Alvarez performance and seeing how strikers can change a game for you. Unlike Messi, Musiala and Pedri didn't consistently have a striker making those runs, causing panic amongst the CB's and opening up the game. And some might say luck played a role but guess what, if Alvarez isn't making those runs into the box then there's no penalty or 2nd goal. Strikers in general are opportunistic by nature. They have this innate ability to take gambles in the box that other outfield players don't. And football especially European football needs to start producing more strikers. You don't need all your outfield players to be insane pass and dribble masters.
Quit the chatter, that was the most stunning thing. In fact at least top 3 most stunning thing of the tournament.
I agree with Gab!
