    Also, I've started using the grey scuff pad on my leather cleaning jobs especially before prep. What a difference its made. Thank you very much.

      Thank you, Guy! I did enjoy the break from video editing, however. It's a lot of work inn addition to my already busy schedule.

    I have made a LOT of money over the years taking dirty cloth seats apart and washing them, probably have paid for my washing machine many times over! A trick that we use is to pretreat the dirty cloth with something like Simple Green or if they are really bad, Castrol Super Clean, then wash in the washing machine. Occasionally some seat covers are so dirty that it takes more than one wash cycle to get them really clean. And air dry is best. When cloth seats get that dirty or has a Big Gulp spilled , a detail shop would not be able to get them clean because the stains keep wicking up through the foam. That is a good tip about using a bucket and hose for those that may not have a washing machine to use. And for those who might want to, you can pull carpets out and pressure wash them to get them clean, or take them to a local DIY carwash. If the carpet has a foam backing it will need to completely dry before reinstalling or it could mildew. Isn't amazing how filthy some vehicle interiors get, I'd say some people are pigs but that's not fair to the pigs!
    Brett and I really enjoyed spending time with you and Sandy at the MTE show in Orlando. And as always thanks for all you do in sharing your knowledge, if everyone would do that the skillset of this trade would be SO much better.
    Oh and good job on NOT scratching the paint or trim while pulling and reinstalling the seats, that can be difficult in some vehicles, especially SUVs as the seats can be pretty heavy, and as you well know there is no good way for your back to pull a seat out, it helps so much if two people can do it together.

    Have you ever done dash repairs on 2012 GM trucks and sport utility vehicles? These dashes tend to crack in multiple places.

    • @mttmg
      @mttmg Рік тому +1

      Don't know if Rick has repaired those, the plastic is very brittle, you can get a molded plastic dash cover from a few different companies to install over the cracked dash. They can be repaired but really it's hard to offer any warranty due to the material being brittle. I don't warranty those type of dash repairs myself.

      @@mttmg Over the years I’ve done several with mixed results. I have one coming up and I’m thinking of using flexible epoxy.

      @@georgejamison3782 we have one to do next week I may try reinforcing the repair with a hot plastic stapler then filling with epoxy. It's a rigid plastic, I think one of the reasons they crack is there isn't any real support underneath and vibration causes stress, they usually crack by the passenger airbag and over the instrument cluster

      @@mttmg yes sir they do. GM will not warranty these and it’s up to guys like us to figure out how to make them right. Dealers get so pissed at me because most of the time I will not attempt to repair, for the time it take to repair one of these I can have 3 other vehicles done. Sometimes it’s just not worth the time or effort. I’m in upstate NY, where are you out of?

      Like has been said, the dash cap is the best way to address that problem. I have been very successful with the hot staples followed by plastic welding. Also the stainless mesh melted in is actually stronger. A 2 part flexible epoxy over top will level out and strengthen and then even a polyester filler for perfect surface. Texture and color. Still, in my experience, the dash can break again a few inches away from the original line. For these dashes that we know will continue to break in various places it is important to let the customer know ahead of time so as to not mislead them.
