  • Watch the bidding for the rediscovered Quentin Metsys’s masterpiece, ‘The Madonna of the Cherries’ which has been acquired by the Getty Center @gettymuseum
    Sold for £10,660,000 at Christie’s London in The Old Masters Part I Sale, this painting’s acquisition makes ‘The Madonna of the Cherries’ the second work by Metsys to enter the museum’s collection of Netherlandish painting.
    Dating from the 1520s and painted at the height of Metsys’s career, ‘The Madonna of the Cherries’, became one of his most celebrated singular masterpieces, inspiring generations of artists.

    For such a historical piece of art 9 million $ are extremely small amount.

    that wasn't much of a bidding battle. estimate was 8 to 12 million, hammered at 9.

      If Jussi Pylkkänen was behind the rostrum, he would have hypnotized the bidders and drive the price up much higher than the estimate.

      You don't have to be Christian ( although you should) to appreciate great art.
