Voting rigjts are State, NOT Federal Jurisdiction care of the United States Constitution. That is the actual reason there are 5 Amendments that deal with Voting Rights in this country. They do NOT have that authority.
The assertion that voting rights are a state, not federal, jurisdiction is rooted in the Constitution, but it’s not the full story. While states do hold the primary authority to regulate elections, the federal government has the power-and the responsibility-to intervene when states violate constitutional principles. That’s precisely why we have five amendments addressing voting rights, including protections against racial discrimination, gender discrimination, poll taxes, and age restrictions. The federal government does have authority where voting rights intersect with constitutional protections, but it doesn’t have carte blanche to override state jurisdiction in matters where no such violations occur. The tension between state and federal authority reflects the balance of power that is essential to a federalist system. So, while states are the primary regulators of elections, the federal government’s role is to ensure that those elections remain consistent with the principles of a free and fair society. It’s a misunderstanding to suggest the federal government has no authority, but equally misguided to assume it has unlimited authority.
I check my voting registration status months before every election cycle. I'm already confident that city officials have researched my name and voting eligibility, as common practice. I am checking simply to reassure myself I have not been stricken from the eligible voter list, as is common practice by republicans these days.
Here in Wisconsin, over 35,000 people cast ballots and did NOT have them counted because they were challenged by the right wing funded "Verify the Vote" org. Not a single person has been charged with voting illegally. Most of those who were challenged were students in Madison or black people in Milwaukee. My source is investigative journalist Greg Palast. Trump only won by 32,000 votes here. It handed him Wisconsin.
My I.D. was verified when I registered to vote in my home state of Ind. and showed my DL before I cast each and every ballot. It is exactly the same here in Georgia.
Why do people always act like a normal person is not capable of doing this on their own. Do you know a single person who doesn’t have a government issued id that’s not a minor?

@@Higgins8 Hey, I can do that! Ok first off, it costs money for these services. It could be expensive. Second, you need to provide proof of identity like a birth certificate or social security card or both, and make sure they match. I mean it, no spelling errors, smudges or any sort of damage that disrupt the process. Obtaining a copy or requesting a correction takes time and could cost you more. You need to provide proof of residence. A bill usually (water, electricity, credit card) - don’t even think about bringing an ad just cuz it has your name and address. My DMV takes this part seriously and had turned away people who already waited anywhere between 45 min to an hour in line. And finally, a place that issues identification like the DMV closes for business at 5 pm and probably has limited hours or is closed over the weekend. You would need to take time off from work or school to be able to go. And if you live in a rural area far from essential services, you’d have journey to the nearest town to do that. ID is already required to vote. That’s not the problem. The problem is that it’s difficult and often a drag to obtain one and lot of us aren’t fortunate to be able to take the time or have the money to readily obtain one. I know this was long but I hope this helped.
"As long as its not intended to make it difficult for people to vote" That is the entire purpose and they've even admitted to it many times over the years. The best place to confirm this for yourself is to go to a GOP rally or event where the speakers there will talk about it in detail.
As a European, I find it rather odd that a citizen has to prove their nationality to their own authorities. In my opinion, the state should know who its own citizens are. Perhaps they should implement a rule to that effect.

Check citizenship once when a person registers to vote for the first time. No need to do it every time. Do we make a president to prove his citizenship every time he enters the Oval Office? If the answer is no for the president then it is no for voters
This should be very simple - when American citizens reach the required voting age, the government automatically should provide them with a free ID… 🤷♂️🧘🏻♂️
It's worth noting that they don't consider Identification cards or Passports as an ID. Only drivers licenses. Which means people who can't drive like disabled, blind, deaf, etc, cannot vote.
When you got your drivers license think back to how you proved you were who you said you were. I had to show my birth certificate to prove who I was. I the had to show my ID to register to vote.
For 99% of people the idea itself is no problem at all. The debates come in with the exact details of the requirements. Look at North Carolina a few years ago for example. The problem wasn’t that there were requirements but that they appeared to be designed to skew which demographics would vote. The US has a long history of using covert laws to skew who votes and that is what really makes people weary of such requirements.

Voting ID's sole purpose is to disenfranchise voters. Republicans pass voter ID laws and then turn right around and close driver's license bureaus to make it harder to get a driver's license in low income neighborhoods.
Make Federal Voter IDs free. Currently, some states make getting an ID extremely expensive and difficult, going out of their way to ensure that non-white citizens won't reasonably be able to do so.
For every one person that isn't an American citizen that voted, there are tens of thousands of Americans who where denied their ability to vote through no fault of their own. republicans simply want to be sure that they can't lose even if 90% of the population tries to vote them out.
1) How do you get to the DMV to obtain an ID if you don't have access to transportation? or 2) What if you don't have internet access? 3) What if you don't have copies of your birth certificate & social security card? It costs money & time to get them. 4) All of this takes time & a lot of hoops to jump through to vote. *These requirements are poll taxes
Of course, they do. If they want photo ID and proof of citizenship, then they MUST create the infrastructure AND pay for it. We should have a national ID like most countries and we should not have to pay for it. Let our tax dollars cover it. Otherwise, it penalizes individuals who don’t have the $80 or more to get a passport. It’s not super easy to get a passport. And if you don’t have all your documents, you have to pay for those, as well.
If ID's are required for voting, the government should provide them free of charge. If they are free of charge, then no one has an excuse for not getting one to vote.

Voting rigjts are State, NOT Federal Jurisdiction care of the United States Constitution. That is the actual reason there are 5 Amendments that deal with Voting Rights in this country.
They do NOT have that authority.
Thanks for the reminder.💙💙❄️
Read it closer.
But will they also fund the programs needed to help our citizens _get_ these IDs...?
🤔🤫🤫🤫
If u cant figure out how to get id u dont get to vote
Of course they won't.
Why do people always act like a normal person is not capable of doing this on their own. Do you know a single person who doesn’t have a government issued id that’s not a minor?
@@a124as Yes, illegal aliens. That is why they are so against it.
Some body needs needs to stop this mad man
No one will sadly. Not the Republicans backing him; not the Democrats who have been nearly silent throughout the transition process. We’re f***ed.
He belongs in prison
@@brudlongo-ir1rp I agree, thankfully he was too senile to rerun for pres.
Totally agree that voting changes are required. Every single vote should count.
When are you going to understand your vote means nothing as long as is an oligarchy???
Get the $$$ out of politics then you have representation. The mirage Democrats are the answer is clear. A 3rd party truly for the people is the only way.
Citizens' United was opening much more money into the political system. 3rd party? You don't think that a billionaire won't simply buy it up, OR spend enough PAC money to block it from advertising, if he feels it represents a problem for his puppet Republican?
I think we should just get rid of the electoral college. That will allow every person’s vote to count.
For people who don't drive, it is difficult to get photo IDs. How would vote-by-mail be impacted?
They want to move quickly on this but can't move quickly on comprehensive background checks for guns.
Plus, #45 still doesn't have a healthcare plan or program. He also has no provision to feed, shelter, clothe, and provide medical care for the children born to women and girls against their will.
I will NEVER stand in a voting line. Ever. I really hope they don't do away with mail in ballots
Well, trumpy did say if you voted for and elected him again, the American people wouldn't have to vote again. I believed him. No 2028 voting for america. These are just very preliminary steps he is proposing. The rest will come later. Wait and see.
So... how exactly do you prove your citizenship? Oh, right, with a state issued ID card or driver's license.
You guys do realize you can't actually get one unless you're a citizen, right? Making this idea REALLY dumb.
How about automatic voter registration for ALL citizens? Seems simple enough.
@@thegenialdecepticon5244 MN gives illegals DL.
Before sending absentee ballots out, they actually check to see if you're eligible for one also. Mail in ballots as well.
Yeah! Let's get rid of the EC!!!
I think we need to revote the election from November 2024. We don't want to have to listen to dumpy for 4 more years. It's too stressful and hateful
They already have to??? Why does he drone on about nothing ever that is really happening.
To distract from problems that actually affect average Americans.
I have no issue with that, but I would like to get rid of the electoral vote. Go by popular vote.
Anything for their king!!
Cool no more rural votes
@mistery-ed7900 just voiced his concern about this.
What they want is to make it harder for people to vote
Explain how.
Unless by "people" you mean foreigners, then yes, they're making it harder for them to vote.
You just want voter fraud.
"only" for non white demographics
@@lovelytouch9366Actually, it’s not. Research “voter suppression”.
What about my mail-in vote? What about trump's mail-in vote?
Isn't that how it already is? Ive had to show my license every time I've voted.
"As long as its not intended to make it difficult for people to vote"
That is the entire purpose and they've even admitted to it many times over the years. The best place to confirm this for yourself is to go to a GOP rally or event where the speakers there will talk about it in detail.
Modern poll tax.
As a European, I find it rather odd that a citizen has to prove their nationality to their own authorities. In my opinion, the state should know who its own citizens are. Perhaps they should implement a rule to that effect.
Papers please
Well, he said: “vote for me and you’ll never have to vote again” !!!
WE have no issues with how voting is done. WE accept the outcome of the 2024 election, no matter how distasteful it was.
Still think Leon Musk had something to do with it. He was bragging to Ken Paxton in Texas. Makes you wonder.
Yes voter identification should have been done long time ago.
Sure thing!
It already exists….he’s not changing anything
It's existed for decades. 🤦
Plan was to make it a vote by electoral officials and not the voter themselves. How is that constitutional??
Of course he does.
African American voters must leave Toxic GOP Republicans right now.
Here in Europe, if I want to vote, I must bring my ID.
I vote by mail and always have. I must be an illegal.
no one cares about Europe
Ya, you have been provided ID.
It's worth noting that they don't consider Identification cards or Passports as an ID. Only drivers licenses. Which means people who can't drive like disabled, blind, deaf, etc, cannot vote.
Still mind boggling how this is not a thing like everywhere else in the world
The US is really backwards and dysfunctional everywhere.
no matter what is done, when gop loses they will scream about faulty voting.
What is wrong with showing id or citizenship I don't get it
If we have to show ID, then the left can't cheat by allowing illegals to vote. That's why they don't want these changes.
@@lindensalter6713 When was the last time the US had a covert law to skew who votes?
@@kinjunranger140 it's about keep illegals from voting. This year alone they took 1200 people in Oregon off the voting because they were illegal immigrants.
I'm an election worker. NO 1, voted without proof of I.D. in my location. So where is this happening at then?
In their imaginations.
I am confident this will be successful. Fair elections are essential. Many activities in the United States require photo identification; therefore, it is reasonable to require it for voting. Voter ID laws ensure only American citizens participate in elections, and this is a policy I fully support.

WHat they want is apole tax just like jiom crow southern states.

I completely agree with and strongly support the requirement for voter ID as proof of American citizenship.
Michigan has always needed your ID. If you cant prove who you are, what is wrong with you?
Yeah, like no more voting at all. And, yes, that is what will happen.
Mail a voter card to every citizen every year. Automatic registration.
You need voter ID to deliberately disenfranchise voters.
Election integrity was fine until Conald. Free ID’s for all. Abolish the electoral college, and end citizens united. No party switching during your elected terms either.
Voting ID's sole purpose is to disenfranchise voters. Republicans pass voter ID laws and then turn right around and close driver's license bureaus to make it harder to get a driver's license in low income neighborhoods.
We do this in Kentucky. I have no issues with that. It hasn't stopped us from voting.
We in Kentucky have always had to show since I started voting in 1984.
Make Federal Voter IDs free. Currently, some states make getting an ID extremely expensive and difficult, going out of their way to ensure that non-white citizens won't reasonably be able to do so.
I just want everyone to vote. Eliminate the Electoral College while changes are being made.
For every one person that isn't an American citizen that voted, there are tens of thousands of Americans who where denied their ability to vote through no fault of their own. republicans simply want to be sure that they can't lose even if 90% of the population tries to vote them out.
Eventually the people will tire of this, and we will repeat Rome’s downfall. When everything burned.
Florida already requires ID.
Before 9-11 you did not need to show ID to board a plane. I travelled as another person from Atlanta to Columbus Ohio.
It needs to be an election day not weeks or months just so you get the results you want....
What do I care what a traitor wants?
Make it easy to get the ID. Make it standardised and universal. If it's hard to get, it's not worth it.
I am sorry but we have always had to show id to vote in Ohio. This is such a waste of time and money.
I'm required to show ID in NC and the state ID is free 😊
There is no reason why you should not have to have an ID.
As long as vote by mail still works, who cares 🤷🏾
