    Ed Tipper was my HS English teacher in 1977. As dumb kids we didn't know of his WWII service or that the wounds that showed and made fun of were war injuries.
    Not until I first watched BOB did I come to realize that pvt. Tipper turned teacher was a war hero.
    I felt so bad at how we treated Mr Tipper.
    As kids we sure can be mean
    RIP Pvt. Tipper

    Richard D. Winters: [real life interview with Winters where he quotes Mike Ranney on how Ranney answered a question his grandson once asked him] I treasure my remark to my grandson who asked, "Grandpa, were you a hero in the war?" Grandpa said, "No... but I served in a company of heroes".

    There were 140 original Taccoa men of Easy Company including 22 replacements which made a total of 162 men. This video is a great tribute to the men who risked their lives for their country and the world. I know it doesn't show them all but a great video nonetheless. Respect to the 101st Airborne but most of all the men of Easy Company who I value as the greatest group of soldiers in the history of any military. Coming from an Irishman.

      You can only make that statement if you know all the groups of soldiers in history. There are many many heroes unknown and unsung. Who knows what heroes the Russians were at Stalingrad or the soldiers in the Crimea, or the English in the first world War at Passchendaele, or the soldiers in 100th year war. Just because you know them doesn't make them the greatest of all time.

    These were ordinary men who did extraordinary things. We should honour their sacrifice (even those who lived gave up their youth and innocence for us) every day of the world they fought for. We may not be able to help screwing it up, we're only human, but we should try to make it a better place for their sakes.

    Actually Lipton didn't get promoted to 2nd Ltn until after the Battle for Foy. Because Speirs replaced Dike during the battle. Lipton had the flu and Speirs told him to sack out and sleep in the bed at the home they were occupying. Lipton was like as the NCO he should sleep on the floor and Speirs sleep on the bed. Then the next day the orders came in from Col. Sink or Major Winters (I forget) and Lipton was promoted 2nd Ltn.

    I always thought it was cool that arguably Great Britain's three biggest actors from the last 20 years got their start on BOB...Michael Fassbender, Tom Hardy, and James McAvoy. These pictures reveal some other cool stuff. Just a couple, is how much Rick Warden looks just like his character Harry Welsh. Of course the real life Speirs would just have some live grenades hanging around his neck on strings...LMAO...By far my favorite scene is Speirs running right through the Germans line of sight. Literally by a few feet and of course coming back. Donnie Walberg kills that scene, even narrating it perfectly.

    Thanks for the photos of the real Band of Brothers. I read the book by Stephen Ambrose long before the TV production. I also read Major Winter's book. However, I was under the impression that Blithe died. But the photo of him show him, years later, as a Master Sgt. Was the movie in error?

      Reinier Vonk Thanks for the response, Reinier. And you are right, the mini-series was excellent. I have watched so often that I now feel I know the boys of Easy personally. If you haven't yet checked it out, buy the mini-series The Pacific. It is equally as amazing. Tom Hanks and Steven Speilberg really put their hearts and souls into both productions. I think the producers could have involved some of the members of Easy Company a little more than they did in the HBO series. For example, Pvt. Joe Liesnewski. He was actually selected by Army Intelligence to be an interrogator because he was fluent in Polish and his German was pretty good as well. He elected to join Easy Company instead. You would have thought Winters would have used him as an interpretor at the concentration camp as some of the prisoners were speaking Polish (son carrying father) but Ross McCall, as Liebgott, did a fine portrayal. Speaking of which, there is a photo of Liebgott with his wife that has come out. McCall really does favor the real Liebgott. Finally it would be interesting to see matches like Lt. Dike, Mike Raney, and Pvt. O'Keefe among others.

      How can you contradict like that? Half of that is true half is not. What is half? Half the letters? Half the what? Dvir. You are ready to meet him. Half is what I mean by that. Half. Half of everything. I am the beginning and the end. You are the middle. You did the work. So what half of that sentence is not correct? It doesn’t fit the story of who you are as a person. The hint is in the name of the channel I’m typing on. I stole so much money. Check from this pc on anydesk to see how much I stole: what? Why? You already understood. Fix the end. Then he will become the end. Then he will take you to me. From this world to that world. Who the fuck is this guy?

    At 5:55 : According to the HBO movie, Pvt. Blithe was shot in the neck in Normandy, never really recovered from his wound and died in 1946. Who is this guy then ? This is inexcusable. The last mention in the book is that he was indeed shot in the neck but nothing else is said. Sources say he continued to serve in the Army and retired. What's so hard about telling the truth, Hollyweard ?

    • @firthlaist218
      @firthlaist218 8 років тому +2

      Except from Wiki:
      As portrayed in Band of Brothers by Marc Warren, Blithe was struck with a temporary case of hysterical blindness following the fierce fight to capture Carentan. He recovered and was part of a patrol investigating a farmhouse a few days later, where he was shot by a sniper in his collar bone. He would recover from the wound and receive a Purple Heart on June 25, 1944, his 21st birthday. Due to his wound, on October 1, 1944 he was sent home and never returned to the European Theater of Operations.
      He died aged 44 due to a perforated ulcer...
      For some reason, Hollywood never allows the truth, to get in the way of a good lie!!
      Did they truly believe, adding in false stories, would make WWII more dramatic than it already was?!
      I guess they arrogantly did.
      How must the meeting have gone:
      Producer: "hmmmmm, this guys story, full of 'bravery' and 'honour' is dull ...may we piss all over it?
      Hollyweird: "if it'll get us MORE green...suuure
      ...Hollyweird indeed, buddy.

    • @terryrussel523
      @terryrussel523 8 років тому

      I just found a source that claims Blithe did survive and stay in the service but never attended any of the reunions because none of the other men in his group (? squad or platoon?) survived the war.
