I was personally cringing at the “love story” bits of the movies, first we’re supposed to root for Haruo and Yuko and feel bad when she dies, then Haruo meets a couple of twins, one of which has a crush on him, at some point offers to “connect life” with him, he rejects her; her sister makes the same offer and he finally accepts, leaves her pregnant and even marries her. Heyo Haruo what’s good.

How the other films portray human characters:
SERIZAWA: Make peace with the Titans if you want to heal wounds. Respect Titans to ensure our future. And always understand Titans to reveal more about ourselves.
Me: (cries when he sacrifices himself to reinforce Godzilla’s power).
(Sigh) How the Anime portrays human characters:
HARUO: Tell me everything I need to know! Shut up, and listen! Godzilla must die. HE MUST GO TO HELL! (puts poison in his leader’s drink) And we will show him that we are the guardians of earth (throws pieces of plastic and toxic material outside the capsule) AND OUR PURITY WILL BE EVERLASTING (secretly texts to that alien chick ‘Wanna chill with me afterwards) And I am doing this for the benefit of everyone! (takes his leader ID Badge and weapons without showing).

I'll admit this series was TOHO's experiment on bringing the king of the monsters to the anime world. Maybe in the future they can try again with another anime Godzilla series, and hopefully we'll get more character development and good chemistry among the characters, have a better story line of the series, and have more sense with Godzilla, the monsters, and more monster fights. They needed to have the visuals match the hopeless feeling in the story telling, as in the monster battles, specifically in the first and second parts. The first one was a cool introduction to this new world with the classic Godzilla twist. I think they could have spiced up the second one with multiple Mechagodzillas along with the city. The third could have had the sort of Cosmic horror part but have Ghidora be pulled into our world so we could have a classic Godzilla vs Ghidora but have some twists to have it be a bit more interesting in terms of their abilities.

We have an annoying emo teen named Haruo Sekaki devoid of any personality other than shouting and having tantrums every minute about his mid life crisis that never even makes sense. And in general, the whole message of Godzilla has been raped to death. Instead of being a warning towards the consequences of man’s interference with nature, all I have learnt is that putting on some gothic makeup and black hair and calling yourself “Haruo” will apparently make you badass. At least in King of the Monsters the characters respected the power of these Kaiju.

Seems like it was made by a team that doesn’t know Godzilla, let alone like him. These are not Godzilla movies. They are movies where Godzilla happens to be in the cast. I watched the first two at the same time. I was excited about the third one because it was FINALLY going to get good. Then the religious swing and the horrendous depiction of Ghidora killed it. The entire third movie Godzilla sleeps, opens an eye, stumbles into a field, stands there for twenty minutes getting bit, cha cha cha, kills the main character. He didn’t even need to be in the third one. He didn’t even move.
An animated Godzilla should have been an amazing spectacle due to the medium. You can now do amazing things you wouldn’t be able to do with live action. But they had him stand perfectly still and did nothing.
This trilogy should disappear, it was an utter disappointment. I truly hope I one day forget about it. As for now, I don’t consider these to be Godzilla movies. Just trash.

I watched the first one... Refused to watch the other two. Especially after hearing about all the interesting stuff that took place in the book that explained all the things that happened before the trilogy. The first movie was called "Planet of the Monsters" but really ALL of the monsters were in the book. And they died there. Alot of them to Godzilla but some of them to each other and the humans as well. I would have rather seen an anime trilogy of what happened in the book... (With it ending in humanity fleeing into space perhaps?) than what we got. Gigan was used by the humans to fight Godzilla! Wouldn't that have been super awesome to see on screen? Mothra and Battra were supposed to be the ultimate team and could have killed Godzilla! But Battra was killed in a fight with ANOTHER MONSTER... (Can't remember which monster, Rodan? Megalon?) And then Mothra fought super well against Godzilla by herself but ended up dying. Wouldn't you have liked to seen that on screen? Heck even Hedorah battled a completely different monster other than Godzilla in the story. I would have liked to have seen that. So much amazing kaiju potential and none of it was put on screen. We basically got the "after story." "Well after all of that exciting stuff Godzilla grew up and dominated basically nothing because the only humans left decided to live with nature so that Godzilla wouldn't give a crap about killing them anymore." Yeah that's what we got. lol.

While godzilla is just roaming the planet & just randomly steps into a kaiju battle with two other others that are already goin at it. Trying to kill the shit out of each other then here comes the king both try to double team godzilla. Which fails when godzilla grabs one kaiju while the other one is on his back, he throws the other kaiju to the ground & stomps on it's like a grape. The kaiju on his back tries to keep up the attack, godzilla grabs the other kaiju by the throat & just throws the shit out of em. & just smashes in the ground. Then godzilla powers up & blasted the shit out of em. & he just keeps on going to the next battle. That's what i would've loved to see in my opinion. & you can still work in the human story to.

Having watched the Anime and thought about it, my main gripe about it is that the entire anime should've been called: "human exposition about Godzilla Earth", the entire diologue were monolog after monolog, each one trying to be thought-provoking, yet they fail to inmerse the viewers, why? Because as I once heard: "Film making (in this case anime) is like the Wizard Of Oz: you don't want to see the man behind the curtain, if you ever feel like you're being deceived, your seeing the man behind the curtain", and here, the entire message felt like a staged drama; it doesn't help either that in Planet Eater, they keep cutting away from Haruo's visions to the battle, loosing any possibility of inmersing yourself with the visuals; and here's another thing, movies are a visual way of art, this means that whatever was written can be SHOWN on screen, what could've been shown was explained through exposition, like how Mechagodzilla turned into a city? Or Ghidorah wiping out the Exif's civilization, the Earth adapting around Godzilla. The trilogy was the definition of being: "shallow and complex"

It's not lost potential. I'd say it's more like wasted potential. They had great designs. Good writers, directors, and production. What they failed on imo was the symbolism.
Hear me out. Godzilla was always about warnings of humans defying or trying to command forces beyond its comprehension. From debut to "final wars" humans were always footnotes to how the audience would relate to the kaiju's presence, choosing a side and fighting the fight. But always knowing when to step aside and "let them fight."
In Evangelion and AoT the human's struggles are stubborn and arrogant to the bitter end. Eventually becoming victims to their own pride, vengance, and hubris. And in Godzilla:PotM they kept stealing the center stage, kept pushing back even though the native humans warned them of the consequences. And the result was an End of Evangelion style end. Hauro was granted absolute authority on humanity's fate and he chose war. And what he intended was not atrition or dominance, but mutual destruction, were no sacrifice (even for those unwillingly pulled along) is too great to achieve Haruo's desire to "kill" Godzilla.
Dunno what message that's supposed to convey but that's what I got from this trilogy.

Sorry bro I’m a Godzilla fanatic but this anime trilogy is bad. The figure of Godzilla and the suspicious alien can’t help make this shit any where close to being decent. The storytelling is ok and that’s being generous. The overall plot just doesn’t make this a good Godzilla movie. Maybe a good sci-fi flic, but not a Godzilla flic. They should have learned from the 2014 Godzilla movie(which I think is a good, not great but good film) and realized that today’s crowd wants more Godzilla and less of the people. Shin Godzilla is a traditional Godzilla movie BUT the characters, plot and title character, Godzilla meshed well to formulate the overall plot. Point blank fuck this trilogy.

    Frankly, it was disappointing.
    (Spoiler Alert!)
Okay, I am a long time Godzilla fan and usually do not go into a movie with any expectations. Keep all that in mind as you read on.
1st Movie: I gave the first one a chance and thought it was a little different, unique and a start. Humans vs Godzilla with a twist.
2nd Movie: The second was a little disappointing. We never got Mecha-Godzilla like we were expecting nor any real character development other than one set of aliens turning themselves into machine components and trying to force it on the "MC" and his "love interest."
Even so, I liked the twins getting close to the "MC" (I admit it. I have a thing for weird girls that are not entirely human) and it made me have high expectations for the next film after dropping the name Ghidora and showing that the natives all live with and worship a giant egg that is obviously Mothera. So for the third movie I was expecting a three-way monster battle royale.
3rd Movie: Sh!t. Ghidora was like the video said: a three-headed vampire noodle that was summoned there by the other aliens after they betrayed the humans too. After Ghidora lost his invincibility, he ran away like a scared rabbit and lost a head every time Godzilla hit him. He was like he was a cowardly vampire made of glass . WTF!?
As for Mothera, he made a very brief showing in the "MC"'s dream and that was it.
In the end, Godzilla wins everything and the "MC" decides to end the hate so it doesn't taint the natives by killing himself and his brain-dead "love interest" with the last of their advanced tech by kamikazing into Godzilla and abandoning his very PREGNANT WIFE! WTF!? WTF!? WTF!?
Then we fast forward a few years and see the "MC"'s son and his mother who looks at her son with a very said expression on her face. Wonder why. WTF!?
Conclusion: There are not enough "WTF!?"'s I can give this trilogy. This is like the Mario Brothers movie only worse. At least that was a single film and not a trilogy so less time wasted.
Furthermore, looking at the director, he basically Rian Johnson'ed us. He took an established franchise, subverted our expectations by flipping the "want" and "do not want" lists, thereby crapping all over it which divides the fans. Then he attacks the fans that did not like it which divides and polarizes the fans even more.
In short, the trilogy sucks overall and it is the directer's fault.

I overall enjoyed the anime, it goes back to it's roots that godzilla was meant to be a lesson that the hubris of humanity will be their downfall and godzilla is the embodiment of this. I think it's just because the fanbase mostly expects another awesome-dumb monster movie. I'd like to write something here and it's called "What If MG-City Turned into MechaGodzilla?"
I'd like the keep most of the first half of the movie different with some changes.
    1. Mothra is a cocoon, not an egg that's growing to rival Godzilla's size.
    2. The MechaGodzilla city has a familiar pattern in it's mapping system that resembles a skeleton of MG itself with a geothermal reactor, built of nanometal that generates power to it. Almost like it's growing to rival both Godzilla and the environment created by Godzilla.
Also the first half of battle can stay the same, but the change comes here when Godzilla is still in heat-sphere, Mulu-elu Galu-gu fuses with the nanometal (frieghting off the humans) and activates MechaGodzilla from the city, fused together by nanometer and construction parts of the city, and powered by the reactor. MG comes to life, resembling it's design but more grotesque looking. Horrified at what's going on, Haruo and Yuko are in shock as Belu-be looks on with Bilasuido pride of such achievement.
Then Galu-gu, pilotting MG from inside, instructs Haruo, Yuko and Rilu-elu Belu-be in the vultures to form a suicide pack to release energy from Godzilla for Galu-gu to use MG to penetrate and destroy him, as he begins to assimilate the nanometer onto the three, with Harou protected by Mothra's scales but Yuko going into a catatonic state! Haruo manages to save Yuko and begs Galu-gu to stop, until Godzilla awakens, absorbing his heat barrier as Galu-gu had no choice but to fully fuse into MG's system.
Haruo leaves Yuko and her vulture with Metphies and the survivors as Belu-be hears a distorted voice, speaking in his native tongue to which he replied.
"Like we have a choice." As he looks to Haruo! Belu-be attacks Haruo, still inside his vulture and the two engage in an aerial battle!
Meanwhile, Godzilla unleashes an atomic breathe but MechaGodzilla uses the nanometal powder to deflect his breath, an MechaGodzilla fires his arm cannons, plasma chargers, torpedoes, knee cannons, railing guns and his energy-heat ray at Godzilla, as Godzilla charges forward.
While Haruo and Belu-be continue their fight with the two punched, kicked and any means of defeating each other as Harou tries to convince him to stop.
"Belu-be! Stop This Madness, Now! Yuko Is Dying!"
But Belu-be is too indoctrinated and defies Haruo... "You are nothing but a threat to MechaGodzilla and all of humanity!
"F**k You and Your Fucking MechaGodzilla!" Replied Harou as he grabs the vultures and crashes down, continuing their fight on foot.
MechaGodzilla continues to fight the charging the king of the monsters as Godzilla releases another atomic breath but once again is deflected, but one piece of atomic ray damages MG's shoulder, but MG delievers a fire-powered punch to Godzilla's head and swings his chainsaw tail into Godzilla's face, knocking few chunks of his right side and knocking him to the ground, as MG launches torpedoes and blades from above.
MechaGodzilla leaps back and continues firing.
Meanwhile, Belu-be and Haruo continue to fight as Harou rips off Belu-be's vulture arm but rips out a chunk of Harou's vulture's leg, crippling him and Belu-bu continues to assault him; even pulling out a tree and into a cliff.
Godzilla, beaten but manages to get up from the assault as MechaGodzilla's arm's reveal chainsaw -blades. MG charges and slashes Godzilla several times, slicing off a piece of Godzilla's face. But Godzilla grabs the left blade and bites down on the arm, but MechaGodzilla stabs Godzilla in the chest forcing the beast to let go, as he is stabbed again in the neck. But before Godzilla could unleash another atomic breath, MG launches his last missiles and fire around into Godzilla's dorsal plates but unfortunately Godzilla's hot textured skin breaks the blades, forcing MG to back up; missing Godzilla's incoming tail.
Back at the vultures, Haruo was close to defeat as Bela-bu opens his vulture's armour-face to reveal a nanometal fused Belu-gu telling him, before he kills Harou...
"MechaGodzilla is the only way now. Too bad you couldn't see that, comra...Uh!"
Just then, two Servum's attacked Belu-be's vulture from behind, tearing through before the two creatures ripped Belu-be out of his vulture and ripped him in two! Flying off with their prize, Miana and Maina the twins help Haruo to his feet. He man's himself from the Vulture, exhausted but was able to get up, as he notices the battle in front of him...
From a distance, MechaGodzilla fire's six electric-razor harpoon-darts, however only 4 of the darts where able to penetrate his thick-heat glowing hide as the mecha assembles his tail into a megacannon, firing up into the sky and torpedo course straight down to Godzilla's location. But while MG fire's more razor-blades into Godzilla, the king of monsters reacts just in time and destroys the tail-missile 500 meters in the sky with his atomic breath; but the red-energy auroa's the whole scenery in red.
Haruo and the twins see the destruction and battle rage on, as Metphies radio-com's Haruo to inform him that the nanometal has proven to be hazardous to the environment if it destroys Godzilla, the nanometal will alter the environment to lengths only the Bilusulaido can survive, there for must the reactor underneath the city must be destroyed; cutting off it's power and allow Godzilla to destroy it.
However, Harou looks on as MG nanometal's it's arms into a long-Hyper Lance sword that impale's Godzilla's torso, electrocuting him and using a Convergence Neurol Cannon on its shoulder to blast particle gunfire at Godzilla. Seeing that MechaGodzilla can win, he offers Metphies to allow MechaGodzilla to destroy and then destroy the reactor.
Unfortunately Dr. Martin Lazzari informs Harou the nanometal is killing Yuko and there's a chance if the city is destroyed, Yuko can be saved in time.
With the conflicting decisions, Harou wants Godzilla defeated but can't risk Yuko's or their future survival's suffer from MechaGodzilla, he quickly rushes to the Vulture and seeks to destroy the reactor by blowing up the reactor cable channel's lines above the surface.
As Godzilla's burning hide begins melting the Hyper-lance, as the cybernetic city loads it's Particle Plasma Chest-Cannon, hoping to over load Godzilla's energy and blow off his head. Haruo flies above, but is suddenly heard by a distorted voice... it was Galu-gu! Alive but able barely speak clearly through the radio communications, but he tells Haruo...
"We are so close to defeating Godzilla. Even if it is a Bilusulaido victory. You and the Exif betray us?"
But with anger in his heart, Harou replies with... "What good is it to win against Godzilla, if we don't keep are humanity intact!?"
    But voice answers back...
"Haruo. Who else wants to destroy Godzilla much as you do? You were willing to destroy Godzilla and become something not human!?"
(The voice starts to clear up)
"According to our science, monsters can't be defeated by people. To defeat what has surpassed human intellect is no longer a category of human achievement.
Haruo, stricken in fear of losing and winning while trying to maintain his reality, replies. "Your wrong!"
"If you want to win. Steal your resolve. Surpass humanity and Godzilla and become something greater!"
But Harou screams in anger and wrath and destroys the power channels, cutting off the power to MechaGodzilla as the voice yells out "HARUOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" Before a dying gasp is heard and MechaGodzilla chest cannon fires at Godzilla, but since it is not at maximum power, it barely damages Godzilla as it's CND was destroyed by an atomic breath blast.
As MechaGodzilla suddenly began to suffer power support as the reactor begins to explode as well, but Godzilla absorbs his red-heat energy into his dorsal plates as he unleashes his sonic-cannon roar and begins shattering the power failing machine. Finally Godzilla unleashes the heat into a red-spiral ray as completely obliterates and destroys the MechaGodzilla where it stands, then unleashes another red-atomic ray to make sure his completely vaporized! Godzilla then unleashes one final assault on the city with 2 fires of his atomic breath and sinks the city in fire! The MechaGodzilla and the nanometal, were no more then flames and molten metal.
Haruo manages to land near the survivors and quickly rushes out to attend to Yuko but Martin Lazzari sadly informs that she is not waking up! Haruo rushes inside to see the sight of the lying Yuko, with nanometal liquid leaking from her closed eyes, as Haruo let's out a painful cry as the scene cuts away to black, as the sound Haruo's sobbing can be heard.
